Blue Crew Tailgaters & Friends - Military Support Challenge

So I got to thinking the other day how our first home game is on September 11th. It would make sense the Salute to the Military game would be then but it's not until November. Anyway - I'd like to issue a challenge here to all my Blue Crew brethren, friends, and families.

On the first home game I'm going to collect donations at the Blue Crew Tailgate for care packages to be sent to our troops over in Iraq and Afghanistan. I've selected several units that are from Texas, and my goal is that we can help at least one unit from each state in the US.

If you'd like to help, all you have to do is bring your donations to the Blue Crew Tailgate on Sept 11th. I will not accept any money. If you wish to give monetary donations, I'll point you in the right direction, but I won't accept it at the tailgate.

The most requested items are hygiene products and letters - letters do wonders for morale!

I will update it as time goes on, and post here when it is updated. Please - Try to avoid glass items, and no Illegal copies of CDs or DVDs! If you have a question on what to send, post here and I'll let you know.


Also - if you have any unwanted beenie babies, bring them as well. The soldiers hand them out to the kids they meet. Any small stuffed toys will work, but people seem to have tons of beenie babies still lying around from that fad :)


If you have any questions, post them here and I'll respond. I'd also like to issue a challenge to other Tailgate groups to do something similar.

David, you should also send out notices on facebook to Blue Crew members and if you have an e-mail list with contacts on it too about this.
 
Man, that's a great thing you're thinking of doing... I bought 12 tickets and a few parking passes for that game myself and have already been in contact with the VA, MarineMoms, and an Army MSG. to get soldiers lined up to be our guests at that game...
Being a prior service member, it was a no brainer.... So a SALUTE to you for what you are about to do !!

I will tell you from personal experience how much these little boxes do matter.

My daughter spent 4 Navy years on the GW CVN 73 Carrier. Let me know, glad to help
 
Thanks again to everyone helping me do this - I knew I could count on my Texans family!

I was told that the #1 requested item is beef jerky in the small individual packs. It fits easily in the pocket and is durable in the harsh conditions.

I'm going to have some paper & envelopes for anyone who wants to write a letter, and I'll include them in the care package as well. Even a small note saying thank you will do wonders for these guys out there!

Also - if you want to donate but aren't going to be at the game, PM me and we'll work something out.

It hasn't happened yet :) Bring any goods you want to donate to the tailgate on Sept 11th. The first post has all the details and there's a request list if you need ideas of what bring.
