Blake's Mock 3.0

Blake

MMQB
Just in time for free agency to jack it up!

1. Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
Height: 6'2" - Weight: 214
Still the most NFL ready QB. Had complete control over the Cardinals offense the past 2 seasons with above .70% passing both seasons. Excellent football inteligence.

2. Xavier Su'a-Filo, G, UCLA
Height: 6'4" - Weight: 307
Replaces a departing Wade Smith at starting LG. Has the power if we transition to more of a power scheme, but is also athletic and quick enough to play some zone and get to the 2nd level.

3. Shayne Skov, ILB, Stanford
Height: 6'2" - Weight: 245
Instinctive agressive linebacker. Needed to replace Joe Mays next to Brian Cushing. Injury concerns, and still recovering. Best player on Stanford defense. Racked up 109 tackles last season with 13 TFL.

4. C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa
Height: 6'5" - Weight: 265
TE could be a big priority with Daniels being cut, and Graham not resigned. CJ will give us a nice big target for Teddy to use.

5. E.J. Gaines, CB, Missouri
Height: 5'10" - Weight: 190
Never hurts to bolster the secondary. Crennel got a good look at East West Shrine Game. Brice McCain recently released.

6. Michael Schofield, T, Michigan
Height: 6'6" - Weight: 301
Multi-year starter for the Wolverines. Versatile lineman. RT, possible swing tackle, small chance will have to be kicked inside if he cant handle speed rushers.

7. Jeremy Gallon, WR, Michigan
Height: 5'7" - Weight: 185
A gamer. Always makes the catch in big spots. Rises to the occasion. I would like to see him in the slot and even out of the backfield.

I tend to judge mocks by picks 1-4. 5-7 is almost like a toss up..a bonus if you nail a good player...everyone will be all over the place in those rounds...

That said, this is maybe my favorite mock that I've seen.

I want us to find a way to get Van Noy and TB because they are my two favorite players in this draft, but I'd be great with this.

Of all the drafts over years this one is most up in the air. Yes, Bridgewater is the odds on favorite, because he is most pro ready @ most important position on a football team, QB. But for some reason I don't want to do it him & put all that weight on his shoulders to turn this franchise back around. Not interested in Blake Bortles either, let someone else gamble on his "potential". Three players stand out above rest far as ability to handle pressure & job responsibilities. While I'm not a fan of his I do feel Manziel can handle the heat. While I'm not enamored with Jadeveon Clowney mental attributes his game transitions with ease to the next level as a premium pass rusher. While I love Greg Robinson as a player & Texans sorely need him filling tackle position, its very unlikely they spend that high of pick on one. Long story short still like Bridgewater #1 but fear unrealistic fanbase expectations.

I'm pretty keen if not Clowney in 1st then taking OLB in second but Xavier would fill that LG position, so I like it.

Skov 3rd Fiedorowicz 4th would jump for joy. Two starting players there.

Gaines seems like a good nickle back, not real familiar with his game but good sense of urgency taking that position here.

Michigan produces blue chip tackles so I think Schofield could work his way into the starting RT role at least as swing tackle, good pick here.

Gallon is a solid slot WR but would have to fight for that 5th spot. Really competitive & productive so he could very well earn a roster spot not bad for a 7th.

:)

I like it. I'm not a Bridgewater guy, but taking a guard in the 2nd satisfies me. I'd have loved it if the first thing you said about your LB was, "smart" I'm assuming he's smart & you're just taking it for granted.

I liked OD, don't get me wrong. But I always wanted someone who was either faster.... like Vernon Davis, or taller like Gronk, or both like Jimmy Graham. Your guy is taller, so that's good. Hopefully he's got soft hands.

Am I interpreting this right? You dont want to put the entire weight of turning the franchise around on Teddy's shoulders, yet if we dont take Clowney @ 1 you would rather get an OLB in round 2 rahter than some blockers or weapons for the new QB?

I know you followed that up by saying you liked me filling the LG position there. I just think it makes the most sense to give him all the help he can get. Especially on the o-line.

5th year Senior at Stanford. I think we can safely assume the guy has book and football smarts. But his instincts and aggressive play are what you are paying for here.

C.J. isnt the fastest guy but he can block and create mismatches for the defense. I just worry that with a small pool of top tight end prospects he might be gone by pick #4.

Bridgewater is a very sincere person who wears his heart on his sleeve, if things go badly early he will feel more pressure & worry how he reacts. With Johnny Manziel it doesn't matter, he is battle tested & loves the limelight. Not saying he is the better QB but I'm more confident he can handle any situation.

one of this drafts core strengths @ the top is OLB & Texans need to address position, Clowney, Mack, Barr, Ford, Shazier, Noy or Murphy. I would expect, need one of these guys in my Texan lineup next season. They can still add a WR burner in late rounds to stretch field, already spent two firsts & high 3rd on position currently on roster.

This is a weak class for OG's. If you want one then you selected on of the top prospects for position. If you take QB high then addressing OL is a priority for sure you'll get no argument from me just long as you get edge rusher to chase down Luck first. :)

I'm behind the Bridgewater pick. The QB with the best shot in this draft to be a franchise QB, IMO.

Su'a-Filo is a great selection to protect the new QB. He steps right in at LG. Quessenberry can battle with him or move to RT.

Skov is a great choice as a run stopper in the middle of a 34. I worry about his ability to play in coverage and his injury history is scary.

I'm probably Fiedorowicz's biggest fan so I'm biased here, but I see no way he makes it out of the third round. Huge target who is an exceptional blocker and has soft hands.

I'm a big fan of Gaines as well. I have a 3rd round grade on him and I doubt he makes it out of the fourth. Good potential to be a #2 CB in the future.

I have a 5th round grade on Schofield but it is possible he is still available here. Would definitely have a shot to win the RT job.

Gallon is a good option in the 7th. He could be the backup at the slot position.

Crennel just might have to make due with Merc, Reed and Trevardo at OLB. Maybe a low priced FA. The offense might take precedence with BOB in charge.

That is the toughest part in all this. Grading players and ranking them. Because your grades are always a round or 2 off from someone elses.

I fear you may be right on Fiedorowicz as the TE market is fairly thin IMO. He may be someones target in 2 or 3. If that is the case I can only hope we re-sgin Graham and get another late round project.

Well we re-signed Graham. Now we still need a TE that can block better than these two on our roster.
