Biggest Rivalry's In Sports

I was listening to Gary Williams and Steve Phillips insult each-other about what the biggest college rivalry is out there. Steve being a Michigan alum obviously defended Michigan-Ohio State, and Gary chose Alabama-Auburn based on the fact that there is nothing else to do or talk about in Alabama. Both flawed points of view, but I figured we could discuss this, and talk about the biggest rivals in sports period.

Baseball: Yankees / Redsox
Baseball: Mets / Phillies
Baseball: Astros / Cardinals

Basketball: Lakers / Celtics
Basketball: Not sure.
Basketball: Not sure.

College Football: Michigan / Ohio State
College Football: Alabama / Auburn
College Football: Texas / Oklahoma or Texas aTm
College Football: Miami / Florida State

Well in my mind to be the biggest rivalry in sports, errrr American Sports, you need to be big significant enough that you transcend national borders.
 
For the three sports listed, I think this is the best in each:


Baseball: Yankees / Redsox

Basketball: Lakers / Celtics

College Football: Michigan / Ohio State


For the NFL, I don't think there are any true rivalries. They just don't make a big deal about it, except for the week they play. It's kind of lame in that regard, but when you play each other twice a year, it somewhat loses its appeal. I think the anticipation of that one crack at your arch-rival each year really helps increase importance of that game.
 
Actually they are playing right now. Real Madrid vs Barcelona is probably the biggest rivalry in the world.
 
I would put the Dodgers/Giants above Astros/Cardinals
Also I would add USC/Notre Dame and Army/Navy to CFB
NFL: Packers/Bears and Cowboys/Redskins

I don't think anything can trump the Michigan/Ohio St football game...even when the coaches have good overall records their tenure is measured by the record against each other, with some being fired based mostly on this performance. I went to Southern Univ and we have a real hate for Grambling St.
