Biggest Bust EVER

the top 2 first overall draft busts both belong to the same team and era. Courtney Brown of the Cleveland Browns and Tim Couch of the Browns....

With those 2 picks they could have had McNabb and Jamal Lewis.... To think that they had the first overall pick in 1999 and 2000 and now both are off the team, how horriffic is that for an expansion team, lets be glad we are not in that boat.
 
Their 2001 and 2002 1st rounders, Gerard Warren and William Green, haven't been that great either. I still think Tim Couch could have been something with a non-West Coast team. He should go play somewhere as a backup for the next couple of years learn the ropes and get a second (or third, as it may be) chance.
 
I have a hard time lableing players that suffer several injuries as "busts". Bad luck but not busts. When healthy, Courtney Brown produced. Guys like Kijana Carter and Steve Emtman also come to mind.

And I'd be careful lableing Couch a bust. He put up better numbers in his first 3 seasons than what Carr has...while playing for an expansion team.
 
I am with Hugh on this one. A player who has an injury can not be labled a "Bust". It's just bad luck. On the other hand, one who plays and can't cut it and is a high pick, well, that's a bust in my book.

NFL Busts....let's see, hmmm, how bout some names we haven't seen in a while?

In no certain order:
Todd Marinovich
Tony Mandrich
David Klingler
Akili Smith
Desmond Howard
 
Actually, if I remember correctly, Tony came back to the NFL after he got straightend around and had a FAIR pro career (Bills?). Certainly not up to all the hype, but fair until I think he got hurt. Leaf on the otherhand was a total and complete BUST. Tony certainly wasn't a success story, but IMO not anywhere near the failure that Leaf was/is.
 
The Buccaneers spent the first overall pick in, I think, the 1986 draft on Bo Jackson. Since he sat out a season and re-entered the draft, wouldn't that be considered a bust?
 
When i say bust, i consider it from the Team and Fans perspective, so a player that say had a career ending injury in his rookie season, even though it might not have been that players fault or whatever i still factor those things into a bust.


so the first overall pick and nothing in return at all is pretty bad, but they didn't lose the money, had he signed and broken his leg or something and they had to eat that whole cap space room and signing bonus...


If charles rogers never gets on the field for the Lions, he will be up there, #2 overall pick 40 million contract, 14 million in bonus money for 5 games and less than 250 yards catching.

Biggest bust ever? No, and considering Rogers isn't even a bust , is somewhat ridiculous to bring him up in the same category.

Thats like me saying David Carr is a bust because he doesn't understand his playbook while playing nervous and never having 10 td's in a season.


Oh wait, no, maybe David Carr is a bust....

If you're the Number 1 pick of the draft, but three years later, you're no longer on the team that drafted you . . . . you're a BUST.
 
i'm just saying with rogers that if these injuries keep him off the field, he could take the number one spot because he would have had a biggest bonus for a player that never played more than 10 games (which after 2 years he is right there)

Couch spent 5 years in Cleveland. And I don't have a problem with somebody lableing him a bust...I think he is/was as well.

Just pointing out that if Couch is/was a bust for Cleveland while having better numbers than Carr...does that make Carr a bust thus far?
