Big 12 Championship game

Yeah Hunter Lawrence kicked a Vinatieri-like clutch FG so it's only natural that everyone will talk about that play, but the play of the game, the play that saved UT's season was not the kick.

No, it was Hunter Lawrence tackling the punt returner on that long return in the fourth quarter. Were it not for Lawrence almost pile-driving that dude, he would've scored a TD instead of getting tackled at the ten. Texas D stepped up and forced a three-and-FG.

That was the difference in the game.

Why is nobody talking about that play?

He didn't pile-drive him at all and the guy almost escaped when he had just one leg wrapped up

because any half-decent team would've scored anyway on the drive anyway. Nebraska's offense is so inept they didn't gain a single yard after that.

Um...yeah, that's precisely the point.

The only way Nebraska was gonna score a TD was on special teams or a turnover. If Lawrence doesn't stop the guy, he scores easily and Texas loses that game.

Who cares that he almost escaped? He wrapped him up long enough to allow help defenders to come and finish him off. He basically stopped the dude cold and the returner wiggled his way out of it momentarily.

well let the slurp fest begin just like in 05 all you heard for a month was how bad usc is gonna beat the horns are they the best team ever
i think everyone should stop take a deep breath and go watch the alabama/tennessee game or the 'bama/lsu game
no disrespect to tcu but until there is a playoff somebody is gonna get screwed

You made it sound like he was the Ultimate Warrior and crushing this go to the earth

I'm glad someone finally brought up the Tenn game. We wouldn't be talking about 'Bama going to the title game possible if Cody doesn't block two field goals. If that game happened to be the title game we'd all be talking about how much 'Bama sucked and was overrated.

Did Colt McCoy suck or just did Suh dominate the game? I have the feeling its the later big time.

I suppose you could make a good case for TCU.

Cinci won the game on a botched extra point attempt. Yet I guess they just "found a way to win".

No one is mentioning undefeated Boise State.

I don't buy the Alabama is going to crush UT. In fact I think the game is going to look similar to what we saw tonight. Two defenses teeing off against opposing offenses.

I'm expecting UT will challenge McElroy to win the game as opposed to a healthy Ingram. On the other hand I expect 'Bama to challenge the almost non existent UT running game to step up and win the game.

Heart breaking loss really, but you have to be proud of the way they played the game.

Hopefully Huskers football will continue its revival and the D won't fall over without Suh next year.

If they can find a way to improve the offense next season, they can afford to slide a little on defense. They had a championship caliber defense this year, but that offense was a abomination. (honestly one of the worst I've ever witnessed)

I really did give them a nice season thank you!

Would the Cornhuskers have gotton that reprieve (the "phantom" xtra second to attempt a FG) if the situation had been turned around ? I dunno and we'll never know, but I got my doubts ?
VY was the stallion and Colt is, well Colt is the Colt. Being a Big 12 fan I'll pull for UT in the big game but sure as hell won't bet on them unless I'd get lots & lots of points. TCU, BSU, etc would have been so much better and fairer.
BTW, who ever compared Suh to our boy Okoye, sober up son. And hard to imagine he won't be the first non-QB if not the first player taken in the NFL Draft in April ?

Suh had in one game a career year for some players ...wow
12 tackles, seven of those for loss, and 4.5 sacks.

Yeah, but they had a non-Heisman contender QB that didn't SUCK all night. C'mon, be honest here. If the Nebraska defender had actually not taken that last step toward Colt (forcing the throw), the clock WOULD have run out due to him not being game aware enough to throw the ball early, rather than slow rolling with 5 sec. to go. Yep, that's a true Heisman contender there boys!

Really? You are going to play the what if game?

Well what if Bama lost to Tenn by not blocking 2 field goals?

Yeah, lets not play the what if game ok? Thanks.

I know some of y'all are Nebraska fans and I know some of y'all just hate Texas, but the referees made the right call.

This isn't the first time something like this has been reviewed so there is a precedent for it. And the call was the correct one. If you can't admit that there was clearly one second left after the play then you are being blinded by something (be it hate or passion).

I'm damn proud of our defense. You can say whatever you want about Nebraska's offense but it's a fact that nobody has come even close to dominating them like that.

Texas didn't deserve this win. Our offense deserved to lose this game. A tiny part of me wishes we had lost so that Greg Davis would finally get the axe.

I'll take the win. I have absolutely no expectations about the National Championship Game and honestly right now I don't even think I care. I'm just glad we finally won another Big XII title.

yeah i'm not sure how anyone can say that there wasn't 1 second left on the clock. it was plainly obvious.

But Kast, even if there were zero seconds left on the clock, the ref's would have given UT the 3 points magically since they have such a horns bias. Everyone knows that! lol

Also here is a funny story about Nebraska coaches and Big 12 officials immediatly after the game.

Nebraska coaches come off sounding really stupid now.

I'm not sure I would have handled the situation any better if I were in Pelini's shoes. None of us were in the position that he was in so it's hard for us to judge. I hear he did vote Texas #1 in his final poll though.
