Eric Berry of Tennessee is the best defensive player in the country but he isn't up for the award.

Berry should have the Thorpe (top DB) locked up though.

I know he's not on the list, but Rennie Curran (LB, Georgia) has impressed the hell out of me. Not only is he built like a brick shithouse, the dude's playing lights out.

Heck, his fellow LB Dannell Ellerbe is very good too.
