I just can't see Houston not being involved in some trade down but this mock does not offer any. IMO, there are only two players offering minimal risks, C J Mosley and Sammy Watkins but the latter offers a higher ceiling and turns 21 June 14th.
1. WR Watkins 6'0 200(combine will clarify) 4.47 and follows BPA formula that many like. WR may not be the solid corps we think outside of AJ and Hopkins. Watkins said after teammate Bernard left that he would do better and he did. Great hips & vert. that allows him to go up and take ball away from D. He is perfect slot (shallow) but can play Y (deep); great soft hands catching 101/1464 14.5 avg. Sets up blockers well & weaves through D with controlled bursts of speed. Known as adequate blocker for size & gets job done.
2. OT Antonio Richardson 6'6" 327 future LT that could be a franchise type starts day one at RT. If B Williams can play one year after microfracture knee surgery, I move him to swing allowing him less reps and more time. I'm also not giving up on Newton who should finally be 100% by TC & could get some time at OG over Ben Jones who needs to be the center soon rather than later. If Newton does not impress in TC, he could be a cap cut. Q starts at LG.
3. QB Tajh Boyd 6'.06 222 (Senior Bowl measurements) I am loyal to quys I follow (McCarron took me to bowl to give up)but I see no reason to give up on the "other TB". Not only do I put him behind a stout OL, but give him his 2012 (Hopkins) & his 2013 (Watkins) go to guy increasing his comfort level in NFL. Oh, yeah some guy called AJ had a pretty good 2013 with Keenum.
4. DE Kareem Martin 6'6" 265 (played at 272)arms 34 3/8 replaces A. Smith. 11.5 sacks 82 Ts came on strong end of season with 6 sacks last 4 games.
5. OLB/ILB Devon Kennard 6'3" 257 2009 freshman strong side ILB then in 2010 to MLB 13 games 72 Ts 7 for loss 2 sacks. 2011 to DE. 2012 torn chest muscle lost year. 2013 OLB started 13 games 60Ts 13.5 TFLs 9 sacks 10 QB hits & 4 pass deflections. 5-2 scheme. Team captain. Born 6-24-1991 highest GPA on team & working on Masters. One of nine semi finalists for Ronnie Lott Award.
5. (comp) NT Ryan Carrethers 6'1 330 I found this guy and have pushed him for long time & still he gets no national love. Advantage Texans!
6. TE/FB Joe Don Duncan 6'3" 267 better WR than blocker, only Division 2 guy invited to both Shriner and Senior Bowl. Declined the first & then hurt foot in practice & did not get on field for Sr. Bowl. 2011: 64/949 9 TDs 2012: missed due to loose cartilage being cleaned 2013: 71/1,045 14.72 avg 13 TDs. *note he was his teams featured receiver.
7. CB Phillip Gaines 6' 5/8" 185 36 T 4 INTs don't know why this Rice corner is not getting more attention. A real games that should have been allowed to mirror the opponent's best WR. A steal at this spot.
Only regret is not drafting a RB as I'm concerned about Foster. The only RB I liked was Hyde who takes a 2nd and can't see that but may change as Arian's health picture clarifies.
