Go Texans!
I collected NFL trading cards back in the day. I would go to Sam's Club (it's the wholesale version of Wal-Mart) and beg my dad to buy me a whole case of the packs of NFL cards. I loved unwrapping a pack each week, just as if I had bought a pack at the store. I'd sort through and try to unearth a hot rookie card (I got Emmit Smith's!) and hopefully a good Warren Moon card, too.
I had this one rookie card, a guy named Percy Snow. He was a linebacker drafted by the Chiefs. He was supposed to be the new breed of linebacker who would destroy all older versions of linebacker, and he would be used as the prototype for all future linebackers who would be created in secret labs owned by NFL owners and NFl agents. He was the next big thang, in other words.
I put that card into a protective holder, the kind that was like two inches thick and had a UV-protective layer of plastic coated on both sides of the sleeve. You had to have a guard let you into a secure examination room to see it.
Anyway, I think it's worth about the same price as any other jobber's card is worth: 10 cents, maybe.
I found it the other day..got out the blow torch and cut it free from the sleeve. Threw the card away and kept the sleeve. I think I'll put Derrick Johnson's rookie card in there. Maybe DJ will have more success, and maybe he won't.
He could be a Pro-Bowler, or he could simply be bowling in a few years in Austin as he commutes back and forth to UT where he serves as linebacker coach for the Longhorns. Not too sure what it'll be, but all that I see is an eerie similarity between the hype of Percy Snow and the hype of Derrick Johnson. If that pans out the same way for DJ as it did for Percy....
Seems like a lot of people are homers for DJ because of the Texas roots, and that's cool. But give Travis Johnson a shot. With the way the cap goes, DJ will be available to us in about 2-3 years.
