Dolphins to host RB Arian Foster for second visit on Monday

A source said Foster’s first meeting with the Dolphins, which took place in March, was largely medical. Monday's meeting is a follow up to determine how far along in his rehab the four-time Pro Bowl talent is, and whether he'll be ready for training camp.

Foster, 29, is looking for an opportunity to start and according to ESPN, the seven-year veteran will also visit the Detroit Lions, another team searching for a veteran tailback, later this week.

His turn downward notably occurred following his 2012 351 carry season. At that time I wrote that this was not a number that promoted staying healthy or career longevity in other RB "stars" that came before him.

After leading the league with 351 carries in 2012, Foster played in only 25 of the Texans' 48 games. He was productive while on the field, but not really on the field enough to be as productive as we got used to him being during his first four years in the league. It makes more sense, at this point, for Foster to transition into a part-time role.

I'm hoping everyone writes him off so I can grab him (in the later rounds :)) for my fantasy team. He's got something to prove and I think that'll show in the stats.

Good Luck... He won't get many carries in Miami, I don't think

Can't really argue that given how they under-used Lamar Miller last season.
Still, that plays in my favor though, Foster can be a verrrry late round pick. :D

You don't think they're going to run the ball, or you don't think he can grab carries from a group consisting of Jay Ajayi, Daniel Thomas and Isaiah Pead (or you don't think he can stay healthy?)

You think that the way Dan Campbell and Bill Lazor (and to a lesser extent Joe Philbin) used him says anything about how Adam Gase will utilize his RB's?

I don't think any back will get a lot of carries out of that group, I don't think Foster will be the same early and I question if he can stay healthy the full season

Well, even if he only earns the $1.5 Million that I've seen reported as his base (with another $2 Million available in incentives), that puts him $740K ahead of the 2nd highest paid RB currently on the Dolphins roster. I think they're going to give him a chance to get the clear majority of the carries, and then hope that he's physically able to do it.

Granted, but I don't think Gase will let any running back get a lot of carries, certainly nowhere close to the 300 level

Well, it's not to the point of getting 300 carries (which only one RB in the league got last season), but Gase's history is to give the big share of carries to his best back (which has only been spread out a bit because of injury). We'll agree to disagree on this - I think Arian will get well over half the Dolphins carries as long as he's healthy enough to do it (which may be the thing that makes you 100 percent correct).

Yeah my entire point is that Foster was an over 300 carry back when healthy, he won't be this year even if healthy

Hard to say really. But he was a disciple of Mike Martz and called plays for Peyton's pass-first offense in Denver and helped Cutler have one of his best seasons as a passer. That background doesn't exactly say "ground & pound".

Hi first 2 years he was hardly used but the injuries just kept mounting.

He's a bad ass sports car with relatively low miles but it always breaks down.

Either way he always played hard for Houston and I wish him the best.

He wasn't used much as a rookie, but his second year he played in all 16 games, had 327 carries for 1,616 yds and 66 receptions for 604 yds

oops - I thought he was on the practice squad his first year then he only played the last 2 games of his second season. Thanks

DAVIE, FL – Former Texans IR placeholder and sometimes running back Arian Foster visited sunny South Florida earlier this week, in search of a new team after he was released by Houston during NFL free agency.

Miami, in search of a proven running back to compliment Jay Ajayi after letting Lamar Miller loose brings in Foster as the third back to visit the team since free agency began. Chris Johnson and CJ Anderson ended up resigning with their current teams.

Foster is still recovering from a torn Achilles tendon he suffered last season, the latest injury in the slew of ones that has hindered the once explosive NFL running back’s career.

On Wednesday, news broke that Foster and the Dolphins did come to terms, reaching a 1-year, 1.5 million dollar agreement, with incentives including a $400k signing bonus bringing the worth to about $3.5 million.

The proud moment for the team and the running back took a quick and bloody turn for the worse when team owner Steve Ross handed Foster the contract, slicing his right index finger open, slicing out a millimeter gash. The wound bled “profusely” according to those in the room, having to then run and fetch the training staff on the floor below in the team’s Davie training facility.

Team doctors believe that Foster will be out 4-6 weeks and begin training camp on the IR. Sure is odd seeing the running back on a different team’s injured reserve this season.

Oh come on mods, let it stay... it is every bit as good of journalism as any other article posted this offseason.

Arian Foster was activated from the Dolphins' physically unable to perform list

Putting him on Reserve PUP with the possibility of later naming him as a designated to return player is no longer an option. He better have no set backs in TC, or the team will have only 2 choices..............keep him on the active roster list and hope he can come back, and not continue getting injured/reinjured......................or putting him on permanent Injured Reserve...........

What are the odds Foster plays 10 games?

If the Dolphins are smart, they're counting on him being available late in the season. They should use him sparingly through November, giving him time to recover from that Achilles.

They should lean on their young backs early in the season.
