Why did we pick Owen Daniels? Don't we already have Putzier?

Why did we pass up on Jean-Gilles, Bing, and Ko Simpson?

I found some stuff about Owen Daniels:

Height: 6-3 3/8 | Weight: 253 | 40-Time: 4.65

Strengths:

Can be a top weapon in the passing game...Has soft and reliable hands...Runs good routes...Smart player who knows how to get open...Tough and will work over the middle...Adjusts to poorly thrown balls well...A decent natural athlete...A weapon in the red zone...Was relatively productive throughout his career.

Weaknesses:

Durability is a concern and has a history of knee injuries...Lacks ideal size...Is not a great blocker and wasn't used in that capacity...Needs to get stronger...Does not have elite timed speed...Might have to be in the right scheme to succeed.

Notes:

Is more of an H-Back than a true tight end and somewhat of a wide receiver trapped in a tight ends body...Has torn the ACL in his left knee twice, once in high school and then again in 2002...Could be a very poor man's Chris Cooley as a pro.

Did we need to focus on defense right off the bat, or fix our offense? Demeco might be a great player, but we need more help w/ our offense than our defense. Eric Winston was a good pick, I'm not arguing that. Mario is a great defensive player, but we need offense more than defense.

Defense wins championships... i know that sounds so cliche, but look at the teams who have won the past 5 superbowls, they played D... We added Eric Moulds, and Jeb Putzier in the offseason already. So now we have four offensive threats on the field at all times with DD and AJ. Mario Williams made more sense than Reggie Bush for a couple of OTHER reasons as well... We have an awful defense against the pass and the run, and Williams is a great pass rusher and at NC State he was in a system that used a contain scheme for its DEnds, so he can play within a system. Secondly the only teams that have ever beaten Peyton Manning and the Colts have been able to put pressure on Manning with the front four and maybe a single blitzer (Shawne Merriman for example). Since we are 0-8 against the Colts in four years, this might be a good place to go... I have never been a Cass fan, but i think this year Kubiak and he have done an excellent job thus far. We've filled all of our needs except possibly DB but adding a pass rusher bolsters your defensive backfield so, it seems as though all bases are covered... GO TEXANS
