Are we the laughing stock of the NFL?

I'm not laughing....I'm too estactic and giddy over the fact that the entire Draft has just been blown up.

Nobody in New Orleans thought we had a chance at bush! Now he is going to be rippin it up in the bayou the next decade! :yahoo:

Not too burst your bubble too, but I'm thinking the Saints trade him to the Jets.

I think we just became the laughing stock of the NFL, NFLEurope, NCAAF, High School Football, & PopWarner.

We could have traded down, got another #2, whoever's #1 and still got Williams. It was stupid to take him at #1, now we have to pay him like a #1.

I'm not so sure that they had any trade down offers that still would've netted Mario. (At least that's what I'm going to tell myself.)

You can't just say 'trade' and then have a trade magically happen. You need another partner.

Not one to brag but did i our did i not say all along we wouldnt get bush, cause they believe in D.D and the RB position was not a weakness for us. Wow i bet theres alot of dissapointed texans fans out there right now.

I think I'll join you on that one, but I'm still not happy.

The Texans would have been the laughing stock of the league if they had drafted Reggie........

the fans boo David Carr........ throw bear at his wife........ then cheer for our team to loose.

We miss out on Vince Young..... but at least we have our dignity.

I'm not laughing.

But I'm stoked about our potentially dominant defensive line!! And I bet all of you will be cheering Mario when he's slamming QBs and RBs to the ground! :thumbup

agreed

he fills a definite need for us and is scouted to be as good as or better than Peppers. Had an excellant combine showing. Is a JUNIOR coming out of college and didn't hit most people's radar due to the fact his defensive scheme called for him to play contain alot. Which to me shows discipline to play your area/ assignment.

I think there are alot of things that COULD have happened, but I am not to disappointe with this decision.

Yes I will be more than happy to cheer for him, when he does get a sack or a good tackle. I just think the price was to high. Trade down, or keep it a freaking secret 'till the draft. Maybe we could've got a damn good offer.

Yeah - I'm thinking we could have gotten some picks instead of the shaft.

Uh let me think ,,,,,,,,, YES! you are the Laughing Stock of the NFL

god damn it..... mario isnt even projected to be better the Julius Peppers, and Peppers isn't even THAT great!

When we were conjruing up our 2-14 season... then we were the laughing stock. Let's play this upcoming year out and see who's laughing then, shall we?

No, No NO NO !!! CC's been shopping the pick for three weeks. We didn't reject Reggie Bush. The whole NFL rejected Prince Reggie. 201 is still 201. THEY told us he isn't worth 3000 points. We just believed them. We got no offers for the #1. none.

No, trading down then taking him 4th overall would've been a good pick.

It has been said many times that there were no trade opportunities available that would have netted us Mario.

If the #4 team doesn't want to trade, then there is no trade...

This is why I left and went with another team. Pass on the good players. I will go with Vince Youngs new team. I hope he plays the Texans and reggie bush does too and smokes that killer Defense of the texans. This years prediction is Houston doubling their wins. LMAO

How do you know that? Nobody knows whether they had a partner or not. Do you work in the front office? If so, please explain the stupidity in the pick.

Laughing Stock of the NFL still resides with the teams who's fans wear paper sacks on their heads, Phoenix, and the Raiders.

...oh...and the laughing stock of the AFC South...the Jags.

The Texans are now the Cardinals of the NFL. They probably were already though.

What tha ???? just happened? I get off work and walk into THIS $#!&
Wow! No knock on Mario but NUMBER ONE???????? This has got ta be a joke. A cruel cruel joke.

If Haley's Comet is coming around ...And you KNOW its coming ...you don't go to the dollar movie. This is ridiculous. Sportcenter is going to dedicate a week to this bonehead move!

I agree ...we could have traded down and still got this guy. My money was on Young ...but would have gritted my teeth and "settled" for Bush ...THIS ...I'm just ashamed of this.

Since he is signed, can he not be traded away if we get an offer? Or do you think it is a verbal agreement. I'm just wondering if some team was looking at Mario more than Bush? Just curious. Still think he is a more worthwhile pick than Bush.

Yup. Laughing stock. Im lauging myself to death!! Yu guys better hope this is like when the Eagles fans booed the McNabb pick. I highly doubt it but you gotta hold onto something...
:yahoo:

Let's see. Saint fan and Bear fan are coming on here ragging on the pick................ Yes we are the laughing stock of the NFL.

you gotta love a fan of a bottom feeder team, who flukes themselves into a first round bye in the playoffs last year...coming on to a message board of a team NOT EVEN IN THE CONFERENCE, to talk smack.

Did you go out and buy new Bears gear last year, or just dust off the old stuff in the attic?

Um yes, Super Mario is rated higher than Peppers, and Peppers is a stud.

Are you asking how I know that it takes at least two teams to make a trade?

I do not, in fact know if the Texans had a partner and never said that they did or didn't. My point is that people are acting like they can just decide to "trade down to #4 and still get Mario". It isn't as easy as just willing it to be so... YOU NEED ANOTHER TEAM TO BE WILLING TO TRADE WITH YOU.

We have been the laughing stock of the league for four years. Every time the camera went to Dom, there he was, mouth wide opened with that lost half drunk glossed over look in his eye.

Face of the franchise right there let me tell ya.

...and I never do this either! We have had a string of immensely stupid first round picks and boneheaded front office moves. In fact, it almost goes withour saying that if the Bears pick you on offense then your career is basically over or you are going to be garbage.
This is by far the worst move I've ever heard of. We traded down twice to get McNown and that was horrid but it doesn't even compare to this.

From Si's web page about mario:
Williams is the first defensive end taken No. 1 overall since Courtney Brown went to the Cleveland Browns in 2000. He also is the 12th defensive lineman to be picked at the top of the draft.

DEFENSIVE STATS _Courtney Brown

Year Team G Total Tckl Ast Sacks
2005 Denver Broncos 20.0 4 2

Wow what a performer!! Mario only has to live up to his hype!!!!

Let's see what happens in five years. This is when we will know how the pick turned out. Not before either player has played in the league!:twocents:

This is a very decisive moment for the Texans. See, if they had just drafted Bush, and Bush tanked, nobody would have argued that it was still a great pick. But now, either the Texans are geniuses for picking up Mario or complete morons for passing on Reggie.

BearsFan84 said:

...and you wouldn't be doing it now if the Bears hadn't had such a fluke season last year.

One year does not give you the right to crawl out of your hole and start making fun of other teams. That's what classless Jags fans do. Have a little more class than that, please.

Isn't that what worthless POS GMs are for?

hts

The GM was quoted as not getting any offers from teams to trade up. Unless another team is extremely desparate they normally do not want to pick #1 just because of the $ involved.

Even though I'm a Bills fan I think it's a great move by the Texans. Like other posters have mentioned, RB's are a dime a dozen.......great DE's are rare and should be snagged when ever possible.

While you're at it, just for fairness, compare RB to KiJana Carter and VY to Ryan Leaf.
There are examples of first round busts at every position QB, RB, DE etc... and there are examples of first rounders who tuned out to be all-pros at every position as well.
It's just a matter of how you want to spin it to support your POV...

I want to go on record right now as saying that no Texans fan has ever thrown a bear at David Carr's wife. It's never happened and, judging by the size of most of the Texans fans I've seen at games it never will.

I don't think I've ever seen one big enough to lift a bear (assuming it's fully grown otherwise you would have said "throw a cub") much less throw one.

I don't even know how you'd go about getting a bear into the stadium.

Also nobody I ever saw in 2005 was cheering for the team to "loose" and even if they were it was completely justified. The reason they were losing so much was that they were too tight IMO. They needed to get loose.

Casserly is out of a job in a month so what does he care what we do? Why let a man like that determine our fate?
