For the Texans, I picked LaRon Landry:

Levi Brown was still available in this version of the mock, but I picked defense. Besides, the Texans LT position is jinxed anyways, why would I want to kill Mr. Brown's career?

I read your comments about trading down, and it got me thinking about how interesting this draft is because nothing is locked down. Everybody seems to be waiting on the Raiders to decide who they want, and the Raiders have so far been very tight-lipped. It leads to so many possibilities.

I think it has also created the giant free agency market this offseason. Without a clear direction in the draft, teams are being forced to find answers in free agency.

I would take Brown over Landry for two reasons -

First, I like the depth at safety this year. We can get a good safety in the 3rd or 4th that will still be a good upgrade to our current starter. OTOH, if you want a good quality starting LT in this draft, you better be picking one in the 1st round, or don't bother.

Second, a LT plays a significant role in the offense's success on 100% of the offensive plays. A safety is not in on every play. Not even close. Why take a guy that has an impact on 50% of the plays (a guess) vs. one who makes an impact on 100% of his side of the balls plays.

Nope, it's the LT I would take every single time if both are a need position.

I understand the arguments for Brown--need position, harder to find position, more valuable position salary capwise, if he works, you are set for years....however....

I just feel that Landry is the BPA at this position. And though it is a deep safety class, it is also deep at wide receiver, and I'd rather take a wide receiver in the 3rd than safety with who might be there.

Assuming that Kubiak can get his offensive system stuff to work better with a better quarterback (glimmers of that being possible), I'd rather for the Texans to take defense in the first round. A solid SEC All-American defensive player is likely to be able to make an immediate impact.

Our defense needs so much help. The offense I could see working around some of its deficiencies.

It would non-surprise me however, if the Texans traded lower to take Joe Staley and get more picks--he seems like the type of player the Texans would covet on the line.

Nothing the Texans would do in this draft would surprise me because: a. I lived through the 2006 draft; b. the team has tons of needs.

I agree with everything you've said here. I think our defense's inability to get the other team's offense off the field lost us more games than our offense's inability to put up points. Redskins, Bills, and Titans games were evidence of this. Look at the raiders game, our offense couldn't get anything going, but due to the defense creating turnovers and making stops we were able to pull out the win.

wow, i didn't realize these boards were still operational. I havn't been on since the new ones opened up on the main website...i thought it was a switch over.

There has been a lot of speculation over Brown's value and 'how good he is'. just because it's a need position doesn't mean we should pick that. I think there is a very good chance we end up taking Levi and he should be a good player for us.

If it's a Joe Thomas elite LT....you take him. He's the guy that will ancor our line for years to come. When it's all said and done Levi could anchor the right side of our line, not left.

I'd choose Laron Landry because I've liked him for so long. He'd be BPA and there's arguement over who's the Best overall defensive player in the draft...gaines adams or laron landry, with patrick willis close behind.

I've got a wonderful draft strategy for us to implement. Texans Chick, what do you say we just take the SEC defensive player of the year if available....that's pretty much a lock for a stud. Last year it was Demeco. This year its patrick willis who chances are could be available....
