Any thoughts on Slot Receiver?

i posted this the other day.

Jared Abbrederis WR
Best route runner in this draft. Gets incredible separation. If he would have had a better QB his stats would have been unbelievable. In the game against Ohio ST, against one of the top corners in the Draft (Roby) He dominated that game. Abbrederis caught 10 passes for a career-best 207 yards and a score. He was open all day and really could have had 2 or three more TD’s and 7 or eight more catches if not for some horrible throws. I’m scared to death that The Colts are going to get this guy and he’s going to be the next Reggie Wayne. Yes that’s how much I like him. I really want him in the 4th but I would consider the 3rd round, depending on who's left.

from your link

Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin (Round 4-5) - 6'1", 195 lbs. No need to expand on a prospect everyone knows. Abbrederis was the walk-on who got no scholarship because of his "lack of athleticism;" made the team on effort and grit; became the best college route-runner in the nation; and proceeded to make waves by destroying a series of supremely talented but not-as-skilled corners such as Bradley Roby. The question is whether you project him fading from the scene before a Roby with professional training, or continuing with the same edge and turning into a Biletnikoff for the 21st century.

I found it interesting that OB specifically semi-retracted his earlier statement that we didn't have any Slot WRs on the team at OTAs. Felt a bit forced to me.

Bruce Ellington would be sweet, but I'm not sure we "spend" that high on him.

Remember when the Vikes had Carter,Moss, and Reed? AJ might me the best slot in nfl. Posey,Nuk outside with AJ inside. No team could double him and most his routes are inside anyway.

I agree. I think Posey could do it too.

And I think WolverineFan has been saying for months that Andre would look excellent in the slot.

Generally a reason outside WRs are paid almost triple on yearly average. Slot is important, but outside WRs are THE most important. Not really close IMO. But it can definitely extend his career.

Posey is more than serviceable. Let's focus on the fact that we don't have an NFL Defensive Line now. Not grab more luxury WRs.

We don`t have an NFL defensive line? We have Watt, Nix and Crick as starters. And we`ll see a lot of 4 men fronts with Clowney and maybe Mercilus. I think our D-line is more of a strength now.

But I agree, that we don`t need to draft a WR. Sure, if we get one at great value, you take him. But I´d rather get an ILB, an HB and maybe an RT, CB or S. Oh, and perhaps a QB.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he has. Looked great at camp last year.

I thought he looked promising as well. Right up until he suffered that season ending hangnail. That was devastating but all reports are that he's now fully recovered. :stirpot:

Strength? I don't know if I can get behind that. Nix is going to be forced to be an every down player when the reason he dropped to us is he can't play passing downs, because we have no other options other than Powe, who is garbage. You also mentioned Crick, who is even more garbage, and he is starting on the right side. Then we have to look at what we have behind them....... nothing.

This team catches the injury bug every year, and if somehow we do catch 1 or 2 injuries on this DLine we can just waive the white flag before kick off. You may be right though, we will see. Only time will tell. I will respectfully disagree.

alec lemon is another that's interesting. looked really good in camp last year but not ready to crack the 53 - stashed on IR.

OMG people are still bringing up Posey? :wade palm:

Welker is the best slot receiver of all time. Just find another one of those speedy quick little guys who can catch passes from all over the line of scrimmage.

What about Alan Bonner?

I'm hoping he's going to step up.

Me, too.
The guy looks very intriguing.
I hope he becomes something.

Mike Thomas will get slot reps if he makes the team as will Martin. I think we will see a lot of 3-WR looks with Hopkins and Posey outside and Andre in the slot though. Dre has lost a lot of that deep speed, but he still has the size to match up with LB's and Safety's and the WR skills to beat CB's. I think we will use him a lot like Baltimore and SF have used Boldin.
