Another try at a mock

In my opinion our biggest need is to improve the LB corp and get a versitile LB in the Bruschi mold and Pollack seems to be that guy. He is agile and does well in coverage and rushing the passer.

Jones is just too much of a potential star to pass up on in the second round, especially if he can return kicks.

We have too uch money in our DL right now to warrant a high draft pick but picking up potential replacements for Payne and Walker seem like a good idea.

I still want to wait and see what Wand can do before we spend a high draft pick on a OT.

Houston:

RD 1. David Pollack DE/OLB
-move him to outside this year and next year after Wong leaves move him inside.
RD 2. Matt Jones WR
-another big playmaker for Carr and Johnson (imagine them lining up on opposite sides, AJ is 6-3 and Jones is 6-6 and both can outmuscle the small corners and have blazing speed to beat the big ones)
RD 3. Ronald Bartell CB
-good size/speed ratio and has shown ability to shut down receivers at a lower level
RD 3. Darrell Shropshire NT
-big NT that can handle the double team. Played at McNair’s S. Carolina with Dunta
RD 4. Sione Pouha DT
-another big DL that will help open things up for our linebackers
RD 5. Adam Kieft OT
-Another project Tackle for us to groom, wouldn’t be a Texans draft without one.
RD 6. Nehemiah Broughton RB
-big powerful runner to compliment DD
RD 7. Rob Hunt C
-project C that shows promise in a zone scheme with his agility

Overall, it's pretty solid...I really doubt Matt Jones is there in the second, though...Throw in Marcus Johnson or Chris Spencer of Ole Miss in the second, and I'd be really happy with that...

matt jones will be there in 3rd-4th round. There are about4-5 better WR that will be there for Jones.

makes no since to draft 2 NT. We dont DT in 34 system.

What we dont have is OL to add depth.

Matt Jones will be a late 1st rounder...The absolute lowest he'll go is 43 to the Giants...If I were a betting man, I'd bet the house on it...

Shropshire would be a DE and Pouha would be a NT...

I'm not sure why he doesn't have any O-Linemen on there...

I think Matt Jones with our #2 is both possible, and good value. I think he will be a mid second rounder. He has definatly shown some athletic ability.. but he is still a project.

I like your first three picks. Pollack, Jones, and Bartell are all nice pickups.

I like Hunt in the 7th and Broughton in the 6th. Its that second 3rd, 4th, and 5th pick that im "eh" about.

I like Sione Pouha.. but he is old for a rookie. I wouldnt mind having him though.. but at some point in that area.. we need to grab one of these stud interior olinemen like Wilkerson and Brown. I think replacing Shropshire with Jason Brown or Ben Wilkerson would make that a very nice draft for us... but then... I kinda like the thought of getting Shropshire :).

Maybe the answer is in trading down.. if we can get an extra third and trade down to the 17-19 area in the first.. we could probably still get Pollack.. and then we could get Bartell, Shropshire, and Wilkerson/Brown in the third :).. now THAT would be nice hehe.

Thanks for your comments. My reasoning for not drafting OL or DL higher was because we have already invested a lot of money in free agency on those two areas. I think we just need youth there now because we are two deep at guard and center right now. Milford Brown and Fred Weary are still young and good backups at guard and we have McKinney and Washington ar C. Although they could use an upgrade we have already invested a lot of money in that area and we need more help in other areas we have not addressed in free agency.

Matt jones might not last til our 2nd pick and if he does he has the most potential of all the WR with his size and speed. imagine him lining up with AJ.

Shropshire would be a NT and Pouha would be a DE, don't just look at their size, Shropshire is strong and is stout against the run and takes up two blockers. Pouha is strong and athletic and would be a good pass rusher and would fit as a DE.

In my scenario I drafted two OL one project tackle and one project C.

Techniquely Matt Jones is a QB so I did draft one.

We have a lot of money wrapped up in the starters, yes, but I wouldn't go as far as to call our back-ups "good"...Milford Brown shows flashes of being decent, but did you see the Browns game? He got handled by their bust of a D-Line...I don't think Weary even got on the field last year...I had hoped he'd develop into a good center, but it has yet to happen...McKinney is incompetent as a starting center, and if he's better than Washington, I don't want to see him on the field...I hope we draft a center this year that beats out McKinney, then we could possibly move him to his original position of guard...I also think we're going to take an OT on the first day this year becuase if Wand or Wade go down, we don't have anyone behind them...
