No Longer Arlington: Escaped From Jerry's World
Staff member
I have participated in this draft every year since 2003 or 2004. This is what I came with this year.

Houston Texans

1.11 Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
2.42 Torrey Smith WR Maryland
3.73 Dontay Moch, OLB, Nevada
4.105 Jaiquawn Jarrett S Temple
5.138.Brandon Blair DE Oregon
6.178 Stanley Havili FB USC
7.213 Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama
7.253 Cliff Odom CB Baylor

http://forums.kffl.com/threads/285118-Round-7-Selection-Thread

Rules of note:

1) No player trading- took it out a few years back because some guys would like trade Tom Brady for a 2nd or something.

2) Limit of 2 trades. Again some guys would make 15 trades.

3) No trading of future picks. Also, out of control for a handful of dudes.

Very solid draft.

Surprised you took a FB but I guess there is the fear Leach leaves and our run game dies with him gone.

1.11 Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
REally did not consider anyone else here. Thought Prince was the BPA abd filled need.

2.42 Torrey Smith WR Maryland
Went BPA here and later had a lot fall into place. Was offered Green's Bays 2nd and 3rd for this and a 7th in a trade down which too far and not enough in return. Considered Jabeel Sheard. At the start of the round I was sure I was going to get a really good defenseive player and the following happened while I was working.

33. New England Patriots (from Carolina)- Brooks Reed, DE/OLB, Arizona
34. Buffalo Bills-Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State
35. Cincinnati Bengals- Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA
36. Denver Broncos- Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State
37. New England Patriots (from Cleveland)- Aaron Williams, CB, Texas
38. Arizona Cardinals- Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame
39. Pittsburgh Steelers (from Tennessee)- Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor
40. Dallas Cowboys- Rahim Moore, S, UCLA,
41. Washington Redskins- Kendrick Ellis, DT, Hampton

Lots of 3-4 defense went bye bye

3.73 Dontay Moch, OLB, Nevada
Got some pure speed and playing making here, but he is probably more of a project than some of you will be comfortable with. Also, considered Jarvis Jenkins DL Mississippi

4.105 Jaiquawn Jarrett S Temple

A bit of tweener safety, but is generally listed at FS. No other player strongly considered. Like the participant mock draft here 3rd/4th round was where the value was at WR/RB. Everything was largely picked clean, imo.

5.138.Brandon Blair DE Oregon

Wanted to draft the either Mark Herzlich or Kris O'Dowd here and both went right before I selected. Blair has the body to be a rotation buy at 3-4 DE, especially as he fills out some.

6.178 Stanley Havili FB USC
Some have him as the the number 1 FB. A little small, but with some chance that Vonte Leach is not back, I thought a good combination of value/ need.

7.213 Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama
Straight BPA pick. I am not seeing the 4 to 5 round gap between him and Andy Dalton. Not like we don't need a long-term back-up anyway.

7.253 Cliff Odom CB Baylor-
Classic Smithiak with a personal twist. Smith always drafts a CB late and there is normally a pick we accuse of being nepotism. Well, Clifton is a 4 year letter, off and on starter for the Bears who happens to be my nephew. (Technically the draft is still going on, but while draft eligible he is not on any legitimate draft list)

I thought you said no trades?

Great draft. I really like your later round picks. Havili is an excellent choice. I like Bair to groom. And I really like McElroy in the 7th for Kubiak to develop.

In this draft:

10.Jacksonville Jaguars (from Washington)- Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

Haha! That would be quite a trade after passing on Tebow last year for a 2nd round DT.
