"Andre Johnson is what is right about America."

I need your quick help with something....

A wine company asked me and some other bloggers to have a sports thankoff in honor of Thanksgiving. We were supposed to write a blog post that answers the question, "What/who are you most thankful for in sports." The prize for winning isn't much of anything, but I never pass up an opportunity to give my appreciation that I've watched Andre Johnson play for my team.

When that whole Randy Moss thing was blowing up, it made me sick that someone like that got so much attention for being a diva, and a player like Andre Johnson is doing all that he can to play with a messed up ankle.

So, here's my blog post:

Giving Thanks for Wide Receiver Andre Johnson

The contest runs through Monday. The winner is chosen by determining who has the most blog comments or Twitter RTs that have the link and the hashtag: #reserveyournight Example here.

I'd greatly appreciate it if you went to that blog post and left a comment. Only one comment per person counts. I think it would be really funny if Texan fans left sort of Chuck Norrisisms in the comments. You know, like "Superman wears Andre Johnson pajamas." Or just leaving a "Hail!" would help.

I'm not sure I can win. The person who has the most blog comments right now is from NYC. But I want to make the competition at least sporting.

I liked this comment:

"If scientists promised to only use human cloning on Andre Johnson, then there would no longer be any debate regarding the ethics of human cloning."

Oh, and I wanted to tell you that even though they ask for an email address, I've been assured that they don't use it for anything. And they have to ask the birthdate thing because of alcohol rules.

#15 is a winner:

"Andre Johnson and Chuck Norris had dinner one night @ the Downtown Aquarium, Each brought in a shark they had caught with their bare hands for the chef to make. Chuck Round house kicked his, Andre went in the water and a shark committed hari kari because giving ones life to Dre is the highest Honor."

I want to thank all of you who are helping with this.

We've almost caught up to the NYC blogger.

In fact, they are getting so many comments that they are planning on shutting the contest down early because they have to moderate and approve each comment and don't want to have to do that over the weekend. So please please please, get your comments in before 4pm central today (FRIDAY).

Their comment system is totally easy and they don't do anything with your email (other than trying to deter cheating)

Here's some of my favorite comments on AJ:

Mom always said “Real Men don’t have to brag about it.” Andre is that.

And ouch:

Watching ‘Dre play makes up for having to put up with that atrocity we call the Houston Texans defense. So yes, I am extremely grateful for Andre Johnson.

And then this made me laugh:

The Sensory Array in my forehead keeps telling me that Andre Johnson is the best player in the NFL but NFL’s top 100 said I was #8 so I guess that means hes not as good as me.

Sincerely,
Peightun Meninn

Thanks again for helping with this. :spit:

Anybody going to fess up to this comment?

Andre Johnson is a great player. He’d be a better player if he went to the University of Texas. And he’d be the best player of all time if Vince Young was throwing the ball to him.

Oh and did I ever tell you that story where Vince Young and I were in a hot tub with Mack Brown listening to Jay-Z on Mack’s iPod?

Well, I came in second in the contest. My Andre Johnson blog had more comments, but Susan had more Twitter RTs--she has more followers than me so it was pretty clear it was a longshot to win this.

But Texan fans supported AJ nicely to the world at large and the comments of that post are smart and funny.

So thanks to all who helped make the contest a little sporty.
