An ugly win makes for a beautiful day

AHHHHHHH thank god! Finally got that monkey off our backs. It wasnt pretty at all but I'll take it.

I thought David Carr played a decent game. The O-Line did their job for the most part. Davis was his normal consistant self. Gaffney is proving to be a very solid reciever for us. Travis Johnson, Robaire Smith, Seth Payne and Gary Walker all played very solid games. Jason Babin applyed good preasure to the QB. Dunta Robinson was Dunta Robinson. Even P-Burnt played decent. He was lost in coverage a few times but made up for it by ending the Browns final drive... good job P-Burnt! Jerome Mathis.... rookie of the year?? :texflag:

Babin?

You mean the "spinner?"

He looked so small against his opponent out there, and was getting steamrolled off his spin so much, that I thought it was Kris Brown.

This guy is NOT a defensive end. Period.

you're right... he's an outside linebacker

It sounded like Carr had a good game but his rating was 68. But he threw a beutiful pass to Mathis, Bradford dropped 3 balls and the INT was the TE's fault.

You call that a spin move??? All he does is turn his back to the tackle and run into him backwards...

You know....I didn't even notice him out on the field until late in the game.
I don't even think I really missed the guy.

On every play there are two men that protect the edge on either side (DE and OLB). Walker and Babin was missed by myself quite a bit as I saw teams tear us a new one on the left side of the defense while they were out. Walker is our second best player on defense and while Babin isn't a pass rusher (at least he hasn't been one to date), he has been decent at the point of attack and doesn't get dominated. We have needed both those guys on the strong side edge. Big props to Walker Sunday.

An interesting thing happened on the Browns final 4th down play. (I'm almost positive it was that play and not the 3rd down play). I was at the game, and during the time out Payne, who wasn't in on the next play, walked all the way to mid-field, said something briefly to Walker, smacked him in the shoulder with his helmet, and turned and walked back off field. It stuck out because you usually don't see players walk all the way on field like that.

I wonder what was said? I just thought it was interesting that Payne may be continuing to try to fill that leadership role a little more vocally. Even though he wasn't in on the play he went to the other veteran who would be in and could provide the on-field leadership.

Babin made a couple of plays, including one dandy where he tied up 2 blockers on the los of scrimmage that allowed the Texans to stop the ball carrier cold for no gain (maybe even a slight loss ?). And he had a near sack(s) with atleast a couple hurries on the QB.
I dunno....I think he's strong enough physically and skillful enough talent wise vs a rushing play to play DE in a 4-3 and at some point will become a
more consistant pass rusher. So when and if we change coaches and perhaps go 4-3, we've got atleast 50% of a starting DE combo.
I wish I was as hopeful about PB being 50% of our long-term CB combo,
though he had a couple plays himself yesterday.
