Am I Gonna Get Hammered or what!!

Resident Grouch
Last year many posters on this board hammered Mike Ditka for his comment that the Texans were always going to just be "filling holes" or something along that line. Well....we have been filling holes at linebacker, at O line, and still trying to fill the hole at TE. Many posters are still begging for a no.2 receiver, another hole? I am as big a Texan fan as anyone but just maybe Ditka wasn't such a fool after all. My point? idonno:

ur point,,,well lets see i dont think we had a hole with sharper, we just found someone (Morlon Greenwood) we figured would be better, so its an upgrade, and wong is an up grade over foreman, peek over wong IMO, and we got babin who is solid. And honestly i dont think we are in such bad shape at WR. AJ, Bradford (speed), Gaffney, Armstrong (hands), Matheis (MAD SPEED). We are looking pretty good on both sides of the ball to me, but thats my opinion, so tthat dont make me right. BUT i Think i am :)

First, Ditka is a horrible football commentator. He was likely reading someone else's crap off a telepromter and had never seen the Texans play. I believe later in the season, Ditka was praising the Texans on the same show (Monday Night Countdown?). I doubt he wrote that, either.

Second, many teams have to fill holes each year. Look at our division. The Colts will probably have 3 new starters. The Jags maybe as many as 6. The Titan possibly 7. Maybe the Texans have a new LT. They brought in a couple of young veteran defenders. A reserve OLB may get an opportunity as a starter. Not really a huge roster upheaval in my opinion. Not hammering, just asking you to consider the source and take a look at other teams changes.

Exactly. If Ditka was so sure of his comments he never would have jumped on our wagon when we were 4-3.

Keep making dumb comments Ditka. It's what you're best at. :dangit:

Ditka has proven he has NO CLUE about the new NFL. This is the guy that traded away his ENTIRE FIRST ROUND DRAFT for Rickey Williams. What a fool. I could give two *****s about what this guy has to say about our team.

as much as i admire ditka for what HE DID in his younger years, i could really care less about his opinions about teams and players, he jumps around and wont stick with what he said if it was wrong. i'm curious to see what he says about us this year.

There are legitimate negative critiques of how the Texans have handled their squad. CupOfCoffee you had at least looked at the team and can name which moves you like or did not like. When Ditka made those comments he did not reference one specific move. Just made a sweeping statement that showed that he had not done his homework on Houston Texans.

I think more people were upset with his "The Texans will always be losers" comment or something to that effect than the one you are talking about.

I remember when he was praising us on something, saying how our defense flies to ball etc and how much speed is there.

With free agency the way it is you have to "fill holes" every year. The better organizations identify these holes well, and then fill them cheaply either with well spent draft choices or free agent pickups of their own. They are dedicated to the concept of winning not to the players themselves...ie..Glenn and Sharper were both fan favorites but are now gone. I think we got younger and faster and would dare to say will spend less when things are said and done. Better? The jury is still out on this one of course.

I clearly remember that comment made by Dikta "The Texans will always be losers". The first thing that came to my mind at the time that he made that comment was, "Mr. Dikta didn't take his Viagra last night"

Actually, Ditka pimps Levitra, and I'm guessing that along w/ the headaches, nausea, sore throat, and possible hair loss that brain damage was also a side effect. The Texans are already better than any of the Saints teams he coached IMO.

Not many Texan fans or media question the Texans. Altough the media is getting a little better. McClain has always been pretty balance.

I guess because it's a new franchise but I never seen the homerism in any other city like Houston is with the Texans. I see that changing though if they don't get something done this year.

Could you please provide at least one example?

Probably because kicking an expansion team for playing like an expansion team would be considered a bit unenlightened. This is really our first season where we have talent and depth accross the board like established NFL teams.
