This is one of those articles that makes me feel old.
As I was reading through the various Pro Day results last night, I ran across this item by Gil Brandt:
"DT Ty Steinkuhler (6-3 7/8, 283) the son of legendary Nebraska offensive lineman Dean Steinkuhler ran a 4.92 and 4.89 in the 40, had a 31-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump, a 4.56 short shuttle, a 7.38 three-cone drill and 23 bench press reps."
If you are in the 35+ year old age bracket and have been a fan of Houston NFL football for a while, you know where I'm going with this.
Throw in all the talk about Clay Matthews and 'Nostalgia Bowl I' is right around the corner.
Dean Steinkuhler, Ty's dad, was part of the greatest stretches of first round draft choices ever witnessed by Houston NFL fans. That draft success helped propel the team to seven consecutive playoff appearances.
For those needing a quick history refresher, it was Mike Munchak in '82, Bruce Matthews in '83, Steinkuhler in '84, and Ray Childress in '85.
Unfortunately, Dean's knees prevented him from reaching full potential as a pro, but he was a great player nonetheless.
Imagine what would happen if Gary Kubiak ended up with a couple of 'kids' named Matthews and Steinkuhler on his team this year.
Our veteran media types would be tripping and falling all over each other to get that first set of quotes, and John McClain would have enough stories to write for the next five years.
I can see it going down already.
