a rant on pro williams pick

i'm probably in the minority here in drafting mario williams but i think it was a good idea. i do agree that at the #1 spot it was a little high, but let's face it, new orleans and tennesee wouldn't trade up and if the jets were two there is a slim chance mario williams or reggie bush would fall that far. and even if it did it wouldn't be worth teh gamble of missing out on either. if the texans had targeted d'brickshaw ferguson as well then the deal would've made sense since one of the three would probably fall to 4, but there is no guarantee. one in the hand is worth two in the bush. (no pun intended) from the way i look at it, the texans had no choice but to take williams at #1, who they obviously wanted more than bush. alot of people forget that kubiak never had a high profile running back in denver except for terrell davis, but even he was drafted in the 6th round, not #1 overall. he made stars out of mike anderson, olandis gary, reuben droughns and even made dayne look good after many had written him off. who knows what he can do with domanick davis and vernand morency. also, who's to say the texans won't draft a solid back in the 2nd round or 3rd, possibly a morency, addai, calhoun or drew. you ask yourself, which looks better mario williams and say joseph addai or reggie bush and tamba hali or kiwanuka? i'd take williams and addai in a heart beat. i know it's all hypothetical but i hope you see my point. now the texans will have a d line to be reckoned with. one thing i do wonder is if they'd be able to trade babin or make a move to get more picks. i feel we need at least 1 more pick in the first three rounds and the ends will justify the means. lastly i want to leave you with two of my favorite mottos when it comes to sports. 1. offense sells tickets, defense wins championships and 2) winning heals all wounds. here is an excellent link from michael smith of espn on picking williams over bush. an excellent read. thank for your time
