2A: McCourty and Jackson gone and I don't like Robinson. I'd choose Nate Allen FS

The only problem with Allen is his nagging quad injury. He had it during the year, then at the combine which lasts thru his pro day. Don't know if he had completely healed or not.
Sounds like there's a good possibility of a recurring problem from what I read.

He's not very good in run support the same as Robinson.

I would be fine with either if the injury checks out.

Robinson can play good press man coverage, which is what the Texans like.
He can mirror the receiver well and has better speed than Allen so I think he has potential.

We might have to go with a RB a little sooner so we can take a RB first and then Robinson afterward (both in the second round).

At the lower pick in the second, the risk for Allen might be justified if we choose to go with him instead of a CB here???

I would only do the trade down if Kyle Wilson, Earl Thomas, and Taylor Mays are gone (yes, I don't mind Mays at #20 at all.)

I'm not quite comfortable with Matthews at #20; perhaps around #28 or so.
Around #30 or later for McCourty.
And I would not touch Kareem in the first round.

I don't see Walton as an upgrade from anything we already have and a third down grade for a solid backup is a bit too high (not to say that he doesn't have the potential to be a starter one day - he might or he might not).

I like Bell but why do we need another RB?
Holliday is worth a 6th, but we already have returners on our team.
He would be OK too; however, I would think having Armanti to give other teams a different look is pretty cool.
A HB back pass with MS and him both in the line up is certainly much better than Chris Brown.

Smith is fine in the 7th, but if we take Armanti then we don't need another QB on the roster.

I love this discussion! 1) I think Walton is a better physical specimen that would benefit on running plays over Myers and we hoepfully will see more runs this season. This was the hope I had for Caldwell who did not grasp the center requirements to call plays for Oline. 2) As a true center rather than combo C/G, he would have a leg up on Myers and Caldwell and the new FA Smith.3) Baylor ran a version of ZBS that should allow Walton to move to starter fairly quickly. He seems to be intelligent and should grasp our system by game 1. Walton's biggest competition would come from Kubiak's trust in Myers as a veteran.

Walton doesn't look any stronger than Myers to me.
In fact, I've seen him lost more individual battles at the collegiate level against different DTs (Suh not counted).

I watched about 3 games and decided he's not the one. Maybe I should study him more?

Like I said, I will pay close attention to the Bama Center next year to see if he can improve further. He already looks better than Caldwell as a Senior.
And you know I watched a lot of Bama tapes three years running now.

Nothing against Bell.

We can only keep so many RBs on the roster.

We have Slaton.
We have Foster on a two-year deal.
We just resign Moats.
==> IMO, we only have room to sign one more RB, preferrably in the 2nd.
If Slaton is not on the PUP to start the year; either Moats or Foster would be cut without hurting the bank too much.
I imagine we also want to take a longer look at Jeremiah Johnson.
We put him on the IR and did not release him.
I would think the intention is to see what he can do after he takes care of that shoulder.
That guy still has as good a stiff arm as any RB.
I'd like to see him a little more myself.

We don't have anybody like Holliday, you're right.
But we also can ill-afford a roster spot for a specialist.
Unless we don't have A.D. or J.J., one of the two;
I think it's better to save that spot for something else.

The Texans like Anthony Alridge before and could have had him for nothing.
And he ran between 4.26 to 4.36
(I'm thinking Kubiak/Smith referred AA to Shanahan.
He's with the Hogs last I checked.)

I liked Burnett the year before last.

He has very good speed for a FS (4.42)

But he dissapoints me with his play this past year.

An early third round pick for me.

That's why I wanted to trade down so we may have some leniency to "reach" a little on each subsequent round.

Burnett may turn out to be a solid starter... but it looks like he lacks a little of something... I can't really put a finger on it.
