49ers Defense

Section516

Warrior
How bad does the match up against the 49ers 3-4 Defense concern you, specifically LB Willis on Slaton and Daniels, and NT Aubrayo Franklin on our interior Oline? Will we be able to get into an offensive rhythm, or (hope to god not) be all ate up a la Jets. I'm hopeful to see the Texans come out just like they did against the Bengals, but with a big score on the first drive on Sunday!:fans:

P.S. Please be in your seats before initial kickoff AND at the half

We're gonna need to solve that problem our offense has against 3-4 defenses on Sundays. Maybe the missing ingredient is Anthony Hill as a blocking TE? He was drafted to help us against 3-4 defenses but has yet to get on the field and we are going up against our 4th team running a 3-4 this season.

I'm concerned about any 3-4 D until the team shows they can consistently win against it. I'm hopeful the staff realizes that anyone is better against a big NT than Myers and shift the blocking accordingly.

Can anyone with some far more advanced insight with myself hint on some favorable matchups for us? Im imagining our receivers V their secondary is a big one (duh), but what are some other key areas that we might be able to gameplan around?

Maybe Caldwell and White bring something Pitts and Brisiel couldn't? That's the hope I have for the running game taking off against a 3/4....much less one with Willis roaming the middle.

We hung 20+ on both 3-4s we faced this year, and had the opportunity to score more but came up a yard short.

As for match ups:

On the D-line Franklin is tough against the run and Smith lives in the backfield. On the other side nobody has stepped up and played worth mentioning.

In the secondary Spencer and Bly have been playing well, but Clements has been torched, giving up over 300 yards and 4 TDs in 5 games. Their safeties are a real liability in coverage, and only decent when supporting the run.

Willis and Spikes are playing very well at ILB, and are a tough match up for any team. Lawson stinks, but Haralson is a gamer who can play the run and get after the QB.

Which D will show up for them?

The one that gives up 45 points like last week?

Or the one who allows 0 points?(given it was against the rams)

I say somewhere in between.

It definetely concerns me. It's not so much that their defense concerns me as Schaub's ability to handle it. He played horribly against it against the Jets and the first half of the Card game we had trouble converting. I dunno what got him going in the second half, but I pray he just takes what the defense gives him and makes the right decisions. Our running game thus far has been pedestrian, our interior line can't get the push necessary to open up lanes. I hope the new blood in there will help out.

If Schaub plays well our receivers can shred their secondary. We flat out have the best receiving core in the league. The Bengals had a decent pass defense until they met Mr. Johnson. We are any secondary's nightmare. We just need to show it consistently.

Short passes to our TEs, Walter, Leach and Slayton until DBs are lulled then BAM! Long passes to AJ and JJ.
