4 draft day senarios. Have our cake and eat it too?

I would love to have Vince Young. No doubt about it. Emotionally I am pulling for the Texans to get him. And would love to start over with a fresh face.

But what if we could get a team to sell their draft to us to get Vince Young and we still walk away with Reggie Bush and some great picks.

It looks like the Titans have their eye on VY big time. If I am the Texans GM and I can trade down to #3 and pick up Reggie Bush at a bargin price and raid a division rival's pantry of some really nice draft picks, plus keep my starting quarterback and save millions in cap space that would be required to get Vince Young. I would probably do it. The only draw back is facing VY twice a year, but then again we might be seeing Reggie Bush twice a year which would be just as bad.

The question is....How sold are the Saints and Titans on Vince Young?
How firm are the Saints that Matt Leinart is their only option.

I see the Texans in a very good place:

For the Sake of arguement we are going to assume no matter what that New Orleans is taking a QB. I have never seen anything that goes against this. To make this simple, I am also going to assume this is a THREE horse race between Texans, Saints, and Titians. But who knows drafts can be crazy especially when there is this much talent at the top.

Option #1
Everyone wants Vince Young.
The Texans trade down to the #3 spot and pick up Reggie Bush for a discounted price. The Titans jump to #1 and pick up Vince, we get several of their picks, and the Saints take Matt Leinart.

Option #2
Everyone wants Reggie Bush.
The Texans trade down to the #2 spot or the #3 spot and end up with either Reggie Bush or Vince Young and get some draft picks. If the feel coming out of NO is that they are going with Leinart and no one else (they could very well be tired of the mobile QB in NO) maybe we could even trade down as low as #3 and still get Vince Young. NO will not trade their spot unless it is to move up and grab Vince Young, because they know we are not taking Leinart.

Option #3:
Everyone is content with their place in line
We say what the Hell and take Vince Young or Reggie Bush with the first pick. <- You wouldn't hear a single complaint from me. But I would take VY hands down if given the Choice.

Option #4
Everyone wants Matt Leinart. (This would be the best possible, and least likely senario)
Norm Chow wants his guy and NO decides they can't live with out a pocket passer. We trade down to #2 or #3 and get the guy we want. Plus some picks of course.

Option #5
The WORST thing that could happen is we trade down to the #3 pick and both Vince Young and Reggie Bush are gone. Then I say we trade down to a team that wants Leinart and we grab D'brick or Hawk and we walk away with a TON of picks from trading down from #1 to #3 and then from #3 to whatever.

But if we don't get Bush or VY I will be dissappointed in the draft. Because I firmly believe we can get one of them and fill a lot of our holes with out a major trade down. We need a big time play maker on Offense and both of those guys do that for us.

thats great, expect of the MANY holes we have, QB and RB are not holes. We NEED a LT. That puts Pitts back at Guard, focus on getting Bently in free agency, then you have 3/5 of a line you feel great about. You then have about 8 more HIGH picks to wither adress the rest of the line, TE, WR, CB, S or LB. We dont need flash to be a good team. We need to draft for need and fix the many problems we have. If we switch to a 4-3, you can add DE to our list of needs. We have so many holes that getting ONE playmaker is not going to change anything about our team. The only thing it will do is increasse jersy sales and maybe a couple of ESPN highlights....

Contrary to what you might believe this team lacks a core. The combination of Carr/DD is not the answer and are not going to get us to the playoffs. Not when we have Manning/James in our division. We need to fight fire with fire.

Grabbing a offensive playmaker in the early first round does NOT mean we are not going to let holes go unfilled. There are a lot of Quality LT coming out in this draft. D'Brick has all the hype but that does not make him the best. Plus there are some good guards and Chester Pitts as an individual is servicable at LT. Yes the rest of the line needs help bad.

Most of the Senarios, I have us trading down and still getting either Bush or Young and a bunch of picks. Don't underestimate the O-lineman we can get with the 33rd pick in the draft (that is basically a first round pick, especially in this talented draft).

Also, my gut tells me a new coach can squeeze more talent than most of us think out of our current players.

ya and adding a Jr. QB is going to solidify the core in 2009 maybe. This is a team that won 7 games last year before we hit a wall, there is talent on this team. If we cut Carr today there would be a slew of teams to gobble him up he still has all the ability to make all the throws something VY still has to prove.

where were all the vince lovers before the Rose bowl is what i gotta say. people get over it we will not draft Vince Young period end of story go home and cry about it. Great rose bowl but that is just that.

A few things:

I don't consider a "Core" one guy. I don't think Carr can't be part of the core. I just don't think the comibnation of Carr/DD is going to get it done. Carr/Bush or Young/DD might make it work. But we need to have at least one star at least one big time winner on our team who can bring a championship and leadership to our locker room. As a fan I don't care what it takes I want to wash away the taste of losing from my mouth.

Before the Rose Bowl Vince Young had said he was not going to the NFL. So noone what taking about drafting him, because he wasn't an option. Just like you don't hear me saying the Texans should grab Brady Quinn with their first pick this year.

Vince young had one of the greatest games in College history and helped with the most important game in all of College football against what many were touting as the Best Team in College history.

BTW there were several thread about wishing we could draft Vince Young and someone even made this avatar a long time ago

Call me crazy but I think Vince Young will make an impact in the next two years for some team in the NFL.

On that I can agree. I do believe that IF he does indeed to go pro that while he may not be an impact player right away. He will definately an a bit of excitement to the game. No matter who gets him.

what picks exactly would u want from the titans? Do remember they only have six (no third round) and i have my doubts if they will do such a move. In a month or so the Texans will be clear cut about bush and the Saints are just about 98% sold on Leinart... Titans could also possibly take bush at the #3 spot, and take Troy Smith (assuming he leads Ohio State to the Fiesta Bowl) or Brady Quinn (please not this guy....) next year. Then again u also have to consider a few other senarios such as Vince Young staying another year, or even...dare i say it... Reggie Bush staying for his senior year, because he hasn't declared yet.

also Car/Bush and Young / DD or even Young / Bush (how ever the hell it would happen) wouldn't do jack in the NFL if they couldn't have decent blocking...cough cough an OL

Pulillo brought this up today. What if Young stays in school and we draft Bush. Then some "scenario" forces Young to request a supplemental draft because he loses his eligibility. Houston would have the first pick of the supplemental draft also. Like Pulillo said, this won't happen, but that would be a way to get both players!

Yum.

Could this ever possibly work from a cap perspective??????

Oooooh, peeps would be so mad at Houston that they would change the rules.

If a team gives Vince some serious playing time in the next two years, especially next year, then I think he will have a pretty big negative impact on the success of that team.

u have to be on drugs to think you are going to pick up the two hottest prospects since sliced bread. With that thinking we might as well draft Leinart and use him as our #1 QB, have Bush and DD split carries, and convert Vince Young into possibly the greatest possesion wideout there ever was...Hell we might as well take Brick and DeAngelo Williams while at it.....and incase u didn't realize i was being sarcastic....

Last years team had A Glenn, J sharper, B Miller and im not sure what happened to M Coleman but he seems to have disappeared
This years team had Pbuch, Greenwood, Bruener. Our team was not as talented this year.
