Why would you have Autry as a PUP/IR stash? He's suspended for 6 weeks. Isn't there a limit to the players a team can put on IR? Definitely a limit on how many players can be brought back during the season.

I just included him in the group of: still on the roster but not counting against the roster number.

Hill looked to have gotten injured against the Rams so you can stash him on IR and fill someone else on PS. I think he (Hill) can have a nice future with this team once healthy and gets more time in this system with Demeco

Lol, but I’m going with CJ Stroudivarius

Offense: 25
2 QB: Stroud, Mills
4 RB: Mixon, Akers, Jordan, Ogunbowale
1 FB: Brooks
6 WR: Diggs, Collins, Dell, Metchie, Hutchinson, Woods
2 LT: Tunsil, Fisher
2 LG: Green 1 Green 2
2 C: Scruggs, Patterson
1 RG: Mason
2 RT: Howard, Broeker
3 TE: Schultz, Stover, Jordan

Defense: 25
4 DE: Anderson, Hunter, Barnett, Hughes
5 DT: Fatukasi, Edwards, Davis, Hinish, Harris
6 LB: Al-Sha'air, Harris, To'o To'o, Hewitt, Tooley, Hansen
5 CB: Stingley, Lassiter, Okudah, Bryant, Ford
5 S: Pitre, Ward, Bullock, Stewart, Murray

ST: 3
1 Punter: Townsend
1 Kicker: Fairbairn
1 LS: Weeks

Suspension: Autry

PUP or IR: Andrew Beck, Noah Brown, Settle

I made some minor changes from my previous posted roster. For the final iteration I am rolling with 2 QBs on the active roster. I’m not sure the extent of Keenum’s injury, but even if healthy i’d rather see if he’ll take a PS spot at this stage of his career. If not, i’m putting Boyle on PS or another developmental prospect. New rules state you can bump up a 3rd QB to game day roster each week without it counting against your active roster and i’m sure Caserio will take advantage of that.

I discussed my RB room in the RBs thread but I want to give Brooks the opportunity to take the FB job from Beck. Brooks has shown enough flashes that I don’t want to risk him on the PS. I think he’s similar to Brevin Jordan. A guy who can play multiple positions for you BUT he also has the upside to be a playmaker instead of a wasted play when targeted. I want as many playmakers as possible on the field in this offense at any given time. I don’t want to see wasted plays getting cute targeting sub par players.

WR I am going to IR Brown and possibly designate him to return if the unit is hit with injuries. I want to see the young guys Metchie/Hutchinson develop and Brown wasn’t available this offseason. Can’t make the club from the tub.

Skowronek goes because I just don’t see upside. He can play a variety of positions like Brooks and Jordan, but I don’t see him as a threat defenses will have to account for… so he can take a PS spot or go to another team. I have Woods rounding out the unit because he’s a steady dependable vet who is a sunk cost. Too expensive to trade but good enough to be on an NFL roster and be trusted to do his job on any given play. Very close call between Woods and Sims, but I think Sims might be able to get to the PS whereas Woods is already a sunk cost at WR with his contract.

Defense I put Settle on PUP or IR depending on injury and get Harris on the active roster. He is undersized but a disruptor. I want to give him an opportunity to stick on the 53 while Autry is suspended and Settle is banged up.

LB i’m worried about Harris. Hope he’s ready to roll week 1 but am worried he might miss regular season games. I almost put Del’shawn Phillips over Max Tooley due to the vet’s contract but I didn’t see much from him in preseason. Going with the UDFA who flashed if I don’t see anything from the vet.

CB I use the extra roster spot from going 2 QB to get an extra CB. That spot goes to Mike Ford over CJ Henderson due to his ability on ST. I said Noah Brown couldn’t make the club from the tub but that was the deepest WR room in the NFL…

Okudah unfortunately can make this club from the tub. But I am actively looking for an upgrade to my outside CB depth during roster cuts. Went with Bryant over King, a little younger player but they are basically clones of each other. Both solid, steady players (yesterday notwithstanding) but are nickel/safety players and undersized for outside CB. With Pitre moving to nickel only have room for one nickel type CB on the roster.

I can see it playing out like this. But who handles return duties?

I'd guess Jordan with that roster.
Has Jordan returned punts? I guess Woods would be the punt returner, he had 7 returns for 6 yards a pop. It would be ridiculous to put Dell out there, considering how important he is to the offense.

I don't know, but I would look for one more cut in order to get Sims on the roster. Probably one of the LBs, as the Texans play 3 LBs less than 1/3 of the snaps.

Caserio needs to make calls on vet FBs, and OTs. Brooks isn't ready to play FB in this offense and 21 personnel is an important grouping in the Shanahan offense. It would be a disaster to have Broeker trying to protect the edge for CJ. This is a Cadillac offense that can't afford a Edsel part.

LOL, did you have to go so extreme. If Broeker is that bad he needs to be on the I-45N roster.
He's an interior lineman by trade. Moved to OT because of injury (Heck) and the fact that Caserio didn't bring in any veteran competition at OT during free agency. Close to getting an apple and a roadmap. As it stands, Cameron Erving, a journeyman street free agent with his 6th team, would actually be OT4. That shouldn't stop Nick from working the phones to find someone better.

Broeker played LT for two seasons in college.

And was moved to OG at Ole Miss because he couldn't hack it at OT in college. Short arms (32-1/2") Not quick (7.75 3 cone). Not really a pro OT candidate.

If there is one criticism that can be made for the Texans offseason, it's the lack of concern going into the season with injury issues for both starting OTs.

Was the second round pick spent on Fisher not enough acknowledgment of concern?

No, it was not enough. Just one rookie? No viable vet? It was a mistake that I hope doesn't come back to bite the Texans in the arse.
Only so many resources you can dedicate to building a team. They’ve got three viable starters at OT. Some teams don’t have one. Heck, they even brought in Heck for OT4 but he got hurt.

Maybe I'm being pedantic but he's just as much a T by trade as he is a G.

The likely answer is that no one wants to see Broeker on the field during the regular season at OG or OT. Bottom line is Caserio needs to look for more help.

I'm thinking Quitoriano will be on the roster so will Beck & Hairston.
In order to put them on IR a day later???

Hairston AND Beck won't be on the same 53.

For as much as it sucks for Quitoriano I think his job was in jeopardy even before the injury and putting him on IR saves the team from making the decision whether they wanted to keep 4 TEs (plus Beck) or not.

Good list

I think Pearce .makes it and Erving is cut.

Settle makes it and M. Harris is on the PS

Okudah and Henderson makes it and one of Stewart, King, Ford and M. Bryant is cut.

Agreed about Sims.

Caserio did draft Fisher at 2-59 and he's looked good this preseason.

Broeker has looked solid at RT this preseason. Caserio will probably bring Heck off of IR at some point this season.

Yep, this is a case of Lucky looking to find something to gripe about when it comes to Caserio. Caserio was supposed to know that Heck would get plantar fascitis. SMH

How many OT's did they carry on the active roster last year?

Why draft Lassiter, Bullock or Stover when you could draft an OT4?
Caserio did draft Fisher at 2-59 and he's looked good this preseason.
I liked the Fisher pick. Even though a lot of posters here told me drafting a OT day 2 would be a wasted pick.

I also wanted the Texans to pickup a vet OT. And while I didn't know Heck would have a foot issue, I did know that he missed 11 games last year to injury. And Howard missed 10 games and the playoffs and was coming off major knee surgery. Even Tunsil missed 3 games.

What is the most valuable asset the Texans possess? It's not a trick question. That's right, CJ Stroud. So protecting your most valuable asset has to rank pretty high on the things to do list. Entering week 1, the Texans are a couple of gimpy kneed OTs in the blue tent from have a rookie at LT and a guy who should be on the practice squad at RT. No matter how this works out over 17 weeks, the Texans did a poor job of planning in regard to protecting their most valuable asset.

So they have a couple 1st's in Tunsil, 1st in Kenyon, 1st in Howard, 2nd in Scruggs, second in Fisher as a swing OT and a vet. Eventually you have to spread your draft capital and money out. I also expect Demeco to be using future 1st's on DL/DE get the QB guys. So they will have to hit skill guys with 3rd's and such if every year they use their 1/2 on DL/OL, which they have been successful in. To say they have not invested enough in the OL is not very accurate.

if we can get Hunter to agree to an extension...he and WAJr could be a dominant force for several years...

Lucky, you are just way off on this. Who should they have signed instead to compete for OT4? Who should not have been signed to have the backups backup at OT? They have so much draft capital (I mocked Fisher to Texans btw)… and they have so much cap room. They signed Heck due to familiarity. They signed Erving when Heck got hurt (another vet OL). They weren’t signing anyone over that level for OT4. That’s not how optimal team building works.

Chiefs have a guy drafted AFTER Fisher starting at LT this season. But you’re gonna complain about OT4?!

You must not have been watching the games
I watched the Bears and Rams games and Broeker certainly didn't embarrass himself. Is Broeker any worse than Colton McKivitz from the 49ers and McKivitz is starting. Anyways, they're gambling that Tunsil/Howard and or Fisher can stay healthy for 4-6 games until Heck makes it back.

I f the worst happens and 2 of the OT's go down in the first 4-6 games and you dont like Broeker then you can sign a vet guy like Jason Peters to fill in the gap until Heck makes it back. BTW, I like Broeker more than Heck.

Drafting Fisher was good planning and I dont think they're worried about Tunsil making it back. Howard is another story. If they need another OT they can sign a guy like Peters off of the street. I also expect a vet OT to get cut.
