2017 Draft - Offensive Linemen

TexansSeminole

We are going to need to invest heavily in offensive linemen during the offseason, particularly in the draft.

Let's get some thoughts in this thread on some potential targets. I think we will need to look at all positions along the line except center.

1st round:

Robinson (Alabama) seems to have fallen although I think he has gotten better as season progressed. Coach scolded him early season as I understand for not 100% effort. I watch him every game and he just seems...boxy? If that's a word. He succeeds at assignments but I just can't get excited about him.

Ramzcyk (Wisconsin) another guy like above that does well but not all there or not as much into game as I want. 2016 was his first year with this team and he rated high as starter LT. I want to see how he responds to hip surgery. He might not participate at combine.

Garett Bolles (Utah)would be my pick if there. He is total package and has good motor. My issue is I want his team mate DE/DT Marcus Walker who is as good as Johnathan Allen.

2nd round:
Dion Dawkins (Temple) I have not seen him play but game film says he is consistent.
Avery Gennesy has fallen to third round since his injury then return to team but I don't k now why. I have him in second round but not my pick.

Forest Lamp Western Kentucky is real deal but many see him as a guard.

3rd round:
Arkansas Dan Skipper my guy and can play both OT and OG. I start him day one at RT. Has best motor and "awareness" of any tackle coming out. He chases opponents just to hit them again. Always seems to be near ball when play stops and picks up Ark player; has unending energy and effort. He is 6'8 + 325 ish. Only concern is he climbs into 2nd round.

4th round:

No one.

5th Round:

Julie'n Davenport Bucknell solid LT but not getting much recognition yet.

I would be happy with: 1st Bolles to eventually replace Brown 2nd Forrest Lamp to replace Allen 2018 if not sooner. 3rd Dan Skipper RT game one 4th Julie'n Davenport to be eventual starter at either LT or LG as needed.

1. Robinson has been unfairly beaten up. Guy will be a great RT and has the ability to be Dunlap type LT.

2. Bolles is my favorite OT in the draft other than Robinson. He is one tough dude and would bring that to the Texans Ol. Something that's currently missing. If he's there at 25 he's my pick, he has great feet but a weird looking frame. A yr with a professional S&C coach and he could become great. His best yrs are in front of him. Doubt he falls to the Texans with so many teams needing OT's

3. Ramczyk- Playing well with a torn labrum in his hip. Needs surgery after the season, wont be able to work out for teams, so he might fall to the Texans. I would breath deep and pick him if he falls. He's strong as a bull and obviously tough. Playing at a great OL school like Wisconsin is a plus.

4. Dawkins- Like him, but honestly he didn't make an impact on my thinking during his games against UH. He had a good bowl game this yr. Haven't watched enough of him to have a truly informed opinion

5. Skipper- Tough guy and would be an upgrade of Clark, don't like his feet at all. How many 6'10 guys have you seen playing OG in the NFL? late 4th/early 5th developmental guy for me.

6. Davenport- Haven't seen him at all, but from what I've read he has all of the tools but needs a couple of yrs to develop. Much like Skipper IMHO

7 Another guy I saw in the bowl games that I really like is Taylor Moton. Good, not great feet. Strictly a RT in the NFL. Strong and plays with a mean streak. Would make a great RG. IMHO Should be available in the 3rd-4th rd. A steal at that point. I think he's a better OG prospect than anybody but Feeney and Lamp (Who I really like.)

My horse is Adam Bisnowaty. IMO, he is the top tackle in the draft. Recently CBS has moved him up to the 49th rated overall prospect while Walter Football still has him with a 4th-6th round grade, stating a "source" told them they have an undraftable grade on him. Bisnowaty has an incredible blend of play strength, natural athleticism and exceptional technique. I think we are going to see his stock skyrocket after the one on one drills at the Senior Bowl.

I have come to realize that the draft sites just regurgitate information they receive from others. I used to get excited at the prospect of getting players like Lane Johnson in the 4th round, Aaron Donald in the 3rd, Luke Kuechly in the 2nd based, etc, based on late season rankings from draft boards, but now realize I just actually objectively watch players earlier than the draft sites.

I also like Skipper a lot but think he is a RT only. I think Bisnowaty can play RT, LT and LG in NFL.
