Usually this is a pretty cut and dry award. Not this year. This year it's been a heated race, with at least a handful of deserving candidates. Shame JJ wasn't around wreaking havoc this season, as there may be enough votes split for him to have gotten a real foothold. Alas, oh well.

So ya, the nominees ...

QB Matt Ryan, Atl 373/534 69.8% 4,944 yds 9.3 ypa 38 tds 7 int 117.1 rat in 16 gms

He's had a monster season, best of his career, guiding a talented Falcons team to a division title.

QB Tom Brady, NE 291/432 67.4% 3,554 yds 8.2 ypa 28 tds 2 int 112.2 rat in 12 gms

Kind of his usual terrific season, albeit in a shortened number of games returning from suspension. Nonetheless helped the Pats to 11-1 and another 1st seed in the AFC, while missing The Gronk.

QB Aaron Rodgers, GB 401/610 65.7% 4,428 yds 7.3 ypa 40 tds 7 int 104.2 rat in 16 gms

R.E.L.A.X. He did it again. Just when everyone was ready to count him out he came roaring back to beat the brakes off the league to close the season, leading the Pack to another division title. Oh ya, and he did with a question marks all over their defense and a wr playing rb.

QB Derek Carr, Oak 357/560 63.8% 3,937 yds 7.0 ypa 28 tds 6 int 96.7 rat in 15 gms

Not quite a monster year, but he arrived and he brought the silver and black back with him, leading the Raiders to their first playoff game since 2002. I'm sure his brother is very proud of the first successful QB in their family.

RB Ezekiel Elliott, Dal 322 car 1,631 yds 5.1 ypc 15 tds 32 rec 363 yds 11.3 ypc 1 td 1,994 tot yds 16 tot tds in 15 gms

Incredible rookie season from an incredible rookie talent. Helped put Dallas back in the spotlight while making running back a glamour position again. Could have made an attempt on the rookie rushing record if not for doing so well during the year that he could be rested in the final week.

RB David Johnson, Ari 293 car 1,239 yds 4.2 ypc 16 tds 80 rec 879 yds 11.0 ypc 4 tds 2,118 tot yds 20 tot tds in 16 gms

Arguably as good a year as his Dallas counterpart when looking at all-purpose yards and touchdowns. His running and catching were about the only things keeping Arizona afloat. If not for his superb play the Cards may be looking much further up the draft board.

And with that TT, who you got for MVP?

Elliott. Dallas is the story of the season, and Elliott is the reason why. And I just can't vote for Brady when his team goes 3-1 without him.

Me, I'd give it to David Johnson. The Cardinals were bad this year but without Johnson, they'd be in the running for #1 draft pick. As a big fantasy fan, I've never seen someone at a RB or WR put up fantasy numbers like a QB. In my league, he's #2 in PPG behind Aaron Rodgers, and that's in a league where QBs get 6 points for TDs as opposed to 4.

David Johnson could be the best RB since Barry Sanders. He's also tough and looks to have lucked out today with the injury to his knee not being an ACL. He won't win it, but David Johnson is my MVP.

Rodgers because of how bad his defense was this year and still managing a 10-6 record.

Wouldn't argue with Matt Ryan either.

So did you maybe wanna vote for him?

Matt Ryan

He has lifted up a moribund franchise and mad them a true SB contender.

Other than that I would vote for Prescott he not only kept that team afloat he became the future. Before anybody says anybody could do what he did behind that OL, I give you exhibit A from last yr: Matt Cassel

Prescott would have to split it with Elliott. It's taken them both to lift that team

I also would go with Ryan

I voted Matt Ryan over Brady.

The Pats won 3 of 4 games without Brady. That tells me the system is solid. Granted Brady runs it better than the other guys but it has been shown that the Pats can with without him.

I do not think that's true in Atlanta. Without Ryan operating that offense like he did this season, I'm not sure they win their division. I mean Ryan had to out-duel Cam Newton, Drew Brees, and a young, up-and-coming Jameis Winston. All twice a year.

I've got Rodgers #1 and Carr #2.

I respect what those other guys have done this year, but what Rodgers has done with that offense this year is incredible. They've gone through 3 RBs and finished the year with a FB and WR playing in the backfield.

Contrast that with Atlanta, which has two backs that combined for something like 1600 yards and almost 20 TDs, not to mention 80+ receptions and almost 10 more TDs receiving. No disrespect to Ryan but that makes his job significantly easier.

Not overly impressed.
Rodgers knew he was playing in a division of chumps almost two months ago and predicted that they'd "run the table" and win their division.

Now I'll give you that GB had to use a 'Conga line' to (that term is probably too old for you younguns) produce a running attack but they did pile up 1700 yds using that method so its not like they didn't have something working in terms of a ground game.

Almost 400 of that was Rodgers himself.

Meanwhile that conga line had to continually learn, adjust, and re-adjust blocking assignments ... of which Rodgers is at the forefront of on every play.

Not anywhere near the same concern for Ryan's clockwork offensive unit.

Just sayin'..

It's not close.

Atlanta's combination of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman:
1599 yards and 19 TDs rushing
85/883/5 receiving

Green Bay's combination of Ty Montgomery (WR), Eddie Lacy, James Starks, Aaron Ripkowski (FB), and Christine Michael:
1226 yards and 6 TDs rushing
78/567/3 receiving

Atlanta's top two guys in the backfield outpaced Green Bay's top five combined. That's not to mention that Green Bay had to move one of their WRs and teach him how to play RB, plus give starts at the position to two guys they picked up off the street, and finished the final game with their FB as their leading rusher.

Matt Ryan had a fantastic year. No doubt about it. He also had one RB finish 7th in the NFL in yards and 5th in TDs. And the other RB finished 23rd in yards and 9th in TDs.

Brady has trumped them all.

He won't get it, due to the NFL framing him and taking the 4 games away. But everyone knows who the king is.

Hell, Jules is the only guy that Brady has a history throwing to on his freawking team this year before Gronk got hurt. Once again Brady is throwing to a ton of new guys all over again that were cast offs on other teams like Hogan and Floyd. Bennett was a solid TE though, and Mitchell was some 3rd round rookie that had pretty much hardly any real draft hype. Brady still plays flawless all season after Gronk gets hurt and has the best TD to INT ratio of all time.

If they won't give it to BRady, then give it to Matt Ryan. He made a huge comeback season and played great all year.

I can't believe Aaron Rodgers jumped so high back into the mix when he his play was questioned through most of the first 8 games of the season. He has no business being ahead or on par with Ryan, Carr, or even Stafford in my opinion. Stafford's play this season went way overlooked.
