2006 Houston Rookies Predictions

Caw Daddy

Practice Squad
*clears throat*

I think that all of the rookies will start next year minus Pettway and Brown. But Ceandris Brown will be used next year, somehow.

Travis Johnson
-Wins starting job, replaces Gary Walker.
-has a successful season but is overshadowed by Morency and Mathis.

Verand Morency
-DD and Morency share carries.
-Capers catches on to Morencys better ypc, starts Morency around week 4
-Breaks 1000 yard, 10 TD

Jerome Mathis
-Takes Jabar Gaffneys spot, moving Gaffney back to slot.
-VERY successful deep threat.
-Helps AJ win starting spot in Pro Bowl.

Drew Hodgdon
-Earns starting job.
-Has a decent season.

Ceandris Brown
-Rotates with Earl and Simmons
-Records at least one of each INT, FF, SACK

Kenneth Pettway
-Used on Special Teams
-Just another LB to throw in the mix

Travis Johnson
- 3 or 4 sacks and splits time with G-Funk, starts a few games when Walker is injured.

Verand Morency
- runs for close to 375 yards, but doesn't start

Jerome Mathis
- gets 3 TDs and 400 yard, makes his way to start at slot a few games

Drew Hodgdon
- become a good back up and fills in when McKinney get hurt

CC Brown
- becomes special teamer and gets 11 tackles

Kenneth Pettway
- earns a spot on the practice squad

Travis Johnson
- will rotate in..if he shows a pass rush...he will be in on 3rd downs when we go to 2 DL and 4 LB and 5 CB's
Verand Morency
- doesn't start, but if shows he can take it to the distance...starts with DD becoming 3rd down back. If he doesn't show that he can break one..he just rotates

Jerome Mathis
- doesn't start... but gets playing time in limited action ..he is developing..should return kicks kicks

Drew Hodgdon
- back ups mckinney

CC Brown
- special teamer

Kenneth Pettway
- practice squad

I have a lot of criticisms of McKinney, but durability isn't one of them. He has never missed a start as a Texan and in 7 years in the league has only missed 4 games. Hodgdon is going to have to earn the spot straight up.

I realize these prediction threads are relatively pointless, but here's my :twocents: ...

Travis Johnson
IMO he will get around 2 or 3 sacks this year in limited action, but I like the positive effect he will have on G-Funk...If Walker feels TJ is creeping up on him, he will probably play with more of a sense of urgency and more fire, so it's a possibility that he'll play more like 2002 G-Funk than 2003/2004 G-Funk...TJ should be a good insurance policy in case Walker were to get injured, though...If Walker misses a few games, I think it's a possibility that TJ takes the starting spot and doesn't look back, resulting in Walker possibly getting "Sharpered" next offseason...

Vernand Morency
He will be part of a RBBC with Davis and Hollings (if he can stay healthy)...He provides a good insurance policy in case we decline to meet an offer made to Davis...Word is Morency isn't as good of a receiver as Davis, but if Joppru can get healthy, Morency's receiving skills shouldn't matter...

Jerome Mathis
He should be an immediate impact guy in the kick return game, and he may break one for a TD, but I don't see him making a huge impact as a WR this year...I'll predict 15 catches for 175 yards and 1 TD for him...He should improve greatly as a WR as the year progresses, but I just can't see him making a big impact his rookie year after playing I-AA ball...He may be poised to take the #2 WR spot in 2006, though...

Drew Hogdgon
He should make the team as a back-up to McKinney, but I don't think he'll see the field too much this season...If he impresses, he should be the starter come 2006 and McKinney will get "Sharpered"...

Ceandris Brown
He'll likely be a special teamer, but he could get some PT if Earl were to get injured...

Kenneth Pettway
Providing he makes the team, he'll be a special teamer who could see the field in limited action if Peek or Babin were to get injured...If he doesn't make the final roster, he'll probably be on the practice squad...

travis johnson will be a starter for us at some point during the season...walker will get hurt and he'll take over never giving up the starting job after that

morency will split time with DD and go for about 700 yards and 7tds after DD gets hurt again

mathis will work his way into a heavy rotation of recievers and will prove that he is our deep threat guy

hodgden will be mckinney's back-up and by 2007 will be our starter

brown...won't make the team unless he moves to FS

pettway...won't make team unless proves to be better than cheatwood, acholonu, and a long list of other linebackers

Ditto.....

BARRING no starter gets hurt, (which is impossilbe) then I think the only guy that gets some serious playing time, aside from special teams is Morency.

Morency is similar to Davis, but, I think the coaching staff will give him some adequate carries once they see his skills in the Pre-season competition.

BIG OLD TJ is good, I have to admit, I'm not huge on the guy....but, I think he's got a decent future. If he got two and a half sacks in college last year, where he supposedly was dominant..........well, then i give him 1 sack this coming year and 20-30 tackles. I dislike Seth Payne and Jerry Deloach, so I hope he beats Payne for his starting nose tackle job. I also hear he's going to replace Gary Walker, but if Walker played up to his potential, I like him WAY better than Payne.

Jerome Mathis, I like this kid, and I think he's going to need at least half the year to really catch onto the reciever position, but he'll be explosive on Returns immediately.

Hodgdon is tough, I like him too, and I really hope that he can figure out the offense in time to beat Mckinney out of a job. I think he could be as good as Nick Hardwick was last year for the Raiders. But, the coaches seem to be too loyal to starters that they don't release. So are they really going to give Hodgdon a fair shot at the starting spot ?

C.C. Brown - special teams, I don't see much playmaking ability in this guy.

Kenny Pettway - special teams, hopefully he can run down the field and hit something.

i dont see why everyone bashes Mckinney so much is he really that bad? J/W anyways fun fact Mckinney played his highschool ball at my highschool where i am currently also playing haha just won over the starting SS position yes! :thumbup but yea he played at Clear Lake thats my fun fact of the day.
