2 days off?

OzzO

.. and then?
.....Because the Texans defeated the Browns 19-16, the players are off for two days. Monday is a regular day off. Coach Dom Capers has a tradition of giving the players Tuesdays off if they win.

"If getting two days off in a row isn't motivation enough, I don't know what is," said defensive end Gary Walker, who spearheaded the defense with two sacks and seven tackles.....

Does anyone know if that's common practice among NFL teams? I mean, I can see if we just had little tweaks to make (ala give awy multiple picks for one player since we're "one player away" from a great team)... but to just beat the Browns with our own MVP Brown.... I'm not sure if it warrants another day off.

Kinda surprised they didn't get a movie day as well.

Actually, Tuesday is the regular day off that all teams get as part of the collective bargaining agreement. I was surprised that the article had such a simple factual error.

I think Monday is usually spent with a weight session followed by a film session, so it's an abbreviated day anyway. I don't know what other teams do.

They had a special on one of the ESPN networks about this the other day. Teams will often hear "see you on Wednesday" if they win, not always but most of the time. The players said that is music to their ears, and it is a reward for winning.

Holmgren is one of the exceptions to this rule. He never gives players Tuesday off.

Yes, Tuesdays are always a day off for all NFL players, and generally the team works out and watches film from the previous game on Monday, so I guess they didn't have to been in there all day on Monday watching film and all that stuff.

Caddy - no reason to go on the defensive, I was just asking a question and stating what I thought. Apologies if that got yours in a wad, I rarely talk bad about the TEXANS - just state opinions and occasional facts.

Thanks all for the info.

I know what my work does when we are not meeting our performance criteria for an extended period of time. We get mandatory OT. I geuss I find it difficult how players getting paid well for what they do should worry about days off. JMHO

Frankly I don't think it hurts them at all. An extra day of recovery time for their bodies, even if is just skipping a weight session, probably benefits the team over the length of the season. They watch a lot of film over the rest of the week, so I don't think that is missed too much either.
