College Texan
Waterboy
2006 Draft
1. Houston Texans- The future of the organization rest on this pick. If Bush or Young is selected and they do not come along within their first two to three years , people will be screaming bust. The safest and smartest pick is to move down. We trade Oakland for the number six spot along with their second this year and first and third next year. Oakland takes Reggie Bush.
2. New Orleans Saints-- It was clear after benching Aaron Brooks that the team would be looking for a new field general, so with this pick the Saints take Matt Leinart to bring a new atmosphere to the Dome. It would help the team attract free agents and a great passer like Lienart could bring consistency to the offense.
3. Tennessee Titans-- This is a tricky pick because the Titans might be willing to trade down and take Jay Cutler. In the end the ties of McNair and Young will be a factor in determining if McNair will come back to groom his successor. The Titans buy into the hype and take Vince Young.
4. New York Jets-- A team similar to the Texans in that they have many holes to fill on both sides of the ball but they are in a tougher situation seeing that the top offensive playmakers are off the board, so a trade would not merit as much as they may be looking for. The Belichick disciple knows how important a quarterback is and he may be looking at a product of a system he knows next year in Brady Quinn. So to have trading options for next year, they let the Texans move back up with the 49rs or Oaklands 1st next year. The Texans also give away their third from NO. The Texans with the fourth overall pick take DBrickashaw Ferguson and still have the sixth overall so the chances of busting are getting thinner.
5. Green Bay-- On paper the packers dont have much to work with, and with the running back injuries this last year as well as their defensive problems, this pick will be a coin toss between Deangelo Williams or AJ. Hawk. I have the edge going to Deangelo, joining Aaron Rodgers to form a young core of offense for years to come.
6. Oakland (Houston)-- One of two thing will happen here, we can either take one of the two best defensive players in the draft or we can work some pull with the Titans, and we could take Cutler and exchange for Vince, with some compensation for them of course. If the Titans are set with Vince though, I see us taking Mario over Hawk, even though Hawk was the anecdote to Vince, Mario would make the rest of the defense look good, especially on third downs.
7. San Francisco-- This past season the niners made the switch into a 3-4 defense because they did not have enough good defensive lineman. They still have a DT who played with Steve Young in the early days. This pick goes to Haloti Ngata the best interior defensive lineman and a major anchor for the 3-4. They could have gone Hawk but maybe hold off for the second round or Poslusnsky next year.
8. Buffalo Bills-- They may have been targeting Ngata here but nonetheless have Hawk drop to them, which will please their new coach Jauron.
9. Detroit Lions-- The Lions have made many bad decisions on offense and in the draft in general. The opt to go defense this year and go after Mathias Kiwanunka who should provide a good pass rush along with Sean Cody.
10. Arizona Cardinals-- They cannot rely on McCown or Kurt Warner to bring this offense to life. Coach Green wants a gunslinger who will pick up the extra yards running if he has to. He will have something similar to Culpepper with Jay Cutler. A gunslinger who will hopefully get the respect from the wide outs and will learn from Warner for a year before he is turned loose in an offense where he is bound to succeed.
11. St. Lois Rams-- The Rams defense is not the prettiest thing in the world, they were hoping to land Kiwi here but the Lions finally went defense. They have needed presence in the secondary for some time though. They end up with Michael Huff who could play almost anywhere in the secondary.
12. Cleveland Browns-- This offense had a lot of pieces to succeed if Winslow can recover from injury, but the story is the defense and Romeo Crennel, he gets a linebacker to build around and who will be able to contribute in all phases of defense. Chad Greenway is just the versatile linebacker who can lineup inside or outside in Crennels 3-4.
13. Baltimore Ravens-- The Ravens have has trouble finding good offensive players in last drafts. They go back to the basics and draft what they do best which is defense. With this pick they go for Tye Hill who will help in their nickel spot where they have not been able to find someone besides Deon Sanders to play.
14. Philadelphia Eagles-- The eagles have their share of problems but they help out their o-line and their receiving corps with Vernon Davis, someone who will be easily liked in Philly.
15. Atlanta falcons-- The Falcons need help on the defensive line and linebackers but with a lack of talent they go to protecting their 100 million dollar investment Michael Vick and grab Winston Justice who is used to protecting left-handed quarterbacks.
16. Miami Dolphins-- With the o-line needing much help, the Dolphins look at getting a stud left tackle, but decide to help their aging defense and new 3-4 system and go for Tamba Hali who will one day replace Jason Taylor.
17. Minnesota Vikings-- The complexion of this team is changing and the uncertainty and lack of the quarterback position this year the Vikings go for Lawrence Maroney who everyone has going to the Vikings.
18. Dallas Cowboys-- Bill Parcels knows how to build a team. The Cowboys need a lot of help along the aging offensive line and could use a safety, but they go for the tackle position and get Eric Winston who will eventually develop into a great lineman for years to come.
19. San Diego Chargers-- The San Diego defense has been coming along but the offense cant rely on Ladainian alone, they go for receiver help and get Santonio Holmes who may be a difference maker in getting them into and through the playoffs.
20. Kansas City Chiefs-- The Chiefs have had among the best lines in the NFL, but they are aging and an upgrade will be sensible. They get Jonathan Scott to make sure this offense doesnt lose a step.
21. New England Patriots-- Jimmy Williams is said to not have a definite spot, he is a tweener. This wont be a problem for New England because they can use him in all the secondary positions.
22. Denver Broncos-- They have two first round picks and not many glaring needs, but they have not had a tight end like Shannon Sharpe since he left and Mercedes Lewis is that seem threat their offense was successful with.
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-- Tampa is a team that needs some help along the offensive line, but will not pass up the opportunity to get a pupil for Derrick Brooks to fit into his mold. The Bucs are surprised DeMeco Ryans has fallen this far and waste no time, he is their type of player.
24. Cincinnati Bengals-- The Bengals were considering tight end but instead look at their d-line where out of Brodnick Bunkley and Gabe Watson, Watson wins the pick.
25. New York Giants-- the G-men need defensive help but instead invest in their o-line and get mammoth Marcus McNeil.
26. Chicago Bears-- With two top tight ends gone the Bears waste no time in getting Leonard Pope. He will help the offense and will be an easy target for whoever manages the quarterback position next year.
27. Carolina Panthers-- Injuries on both sides of the ball have hampered the Panthers season. Kris Jenkins has been unable to stay healthy and aside from Julius Peppers and Jenkins there is not a lot of youth on the line. A presence such as Brodrick Bunkley should take some double teams off of Peppers.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars-- The Jags need some fresh legs in the backfield and they find another Fred Taylor in Lendale White. White should help bring a consistency on this offense along with the power running game.
29. Denver Broncos-- The Browns experiment is over and the Broncos still need a feared pass rushing presence. With their second pick the broncos get Darryl Tapp. Tapp should be another Dwight Freeny after seeing what he did against top talent Ferguson.
30. Indianapolis Colts-- Will most likely be losing Edgerin James, but with no more top talent at the RB position the Colts go for improving their passing offense since they could also be losing Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison is not getting any younger. The Colts take a long look at Chad Jackson and Sinorice Moss. This match up will be a coin flip between the two with the edge going to Moss.
31. Seattle Seahawks-- The Seahawks got two good linebackers last year. To keep improving on this young defense the Seahawks go for Darnell Bing as insurance to the uncertainty of Hamlins future with the team.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers -- The Steelers always draft good in the trenches. The Steelers will keep being a power running team and go for Max Jean-Gilles who seems to be a perfect pick for this team.
The Texans other Picks without the ginormous trade--
2. Nick Mangold--Center
3. Dominique Byrd--Tight End
3. Abdul Hodge--Linebacker
4. Greg Blue--Safety
5. Barrick Nealy--QB/WR?
6. Mark Setterstrom--Guard
7. J.D. Runnels--FB
