Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

It's yet to be revealed where DW4 lands on the spectrum of morality in this whole sordid mess: dunno but suppose somewhere between a pervert and a patsy. Just puzzled why Shanny & Lynch were in such a hurry to blow three first round Draft picks on such a long-shot ?
A patsy for what? :um:

Best case scenario is he's a bit pervy for contacting so many women with so many specific sexualized demands. The M.O. of just about every other pro athlete is the exact opposite of this clown. His football skills do not make up for his irredeemable personal history.

What Licensed Massage Therapists And Former NFL Players Have To Say About Deshaun Watson
Kalyn Kahler | Defector
Kelly Stauffiger is a licensed massage therapist in the Buffalo area, her job for the past 15 years. She’s also had a contract with the Buffalo Bills for five NFL seasons, so she’s been closely following the news of the 22 women who have filed civil lawsuits accusing Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and misconduct during massage appointments. When she read the third lawsuit, the one that said the Houston Texans quarterback forced the massage therapist to perform oral sex, Kelly felt nauseous.

“I got sick after that,” she said. “I thought about the situation she was in, how she could be forced to perform oral sex, how she blacked out and then defecated on herself. That must have been so traumatic.”

The accusations against Watson have brought a spotlight onto the profession of massage therapy and its intersection with the world of professional sports, shoving onto the front of newspapers and websites a profession rarely mentioned in the sports pages or on sports talk radio. How do athletes and professional sports teams establish relationships with massage therapists? What resources do massage therapists have to protect themselves when they are propositioned for sex? And why would an NFL quarterback need or want to work with several dozen massage therapists?

Defector spoke to two NFL athletic trainers, licensed massage therapists who work with NFL players, and current and former NFL players to find out how teams and players use massage therapy, and what it’s like to be a massage therapist working with athletes. They described massage therapy as a key part of recovery for many NFL players, and the massage therapists who spoke to Defector said they were always treated professionally by pro athletes. Two of the NFL players who spoke said the number of massage therapists sought out by Watson, according to the lawsuits, did seem high to them.

And to the massage therapists, the scenario of a client assuming they would perform sex acts felt all too familiar.
* * * * *
Most NFL teams contract several licensed massage therapists to work on players during the season at the team facility. The therapists come in typically two days per week (sometimes more, depending on the training staff and budget): usually on Mondays, for post-game recovery, and Fridays, to get their bodies ready for the next game.

Massage therapy is a popular modality for recovery among professional athletes, and with limited downtime at the facility during a game week, there isn’t enough time for every player to get the treatment they need during the hours that the massage therapists work in the building. It’s normal for players to schedule one of the team’s contracted massage therapists to come to their home, or to schedule another therapist unaffiliated with the team. Both Stauffiger and Masako Jones, one of the 18 massage therapists who issued a statement in support of Watson, said that word-of-mouth referrals from their teammates are the most common way NFL players find a therapist.

Another female massage therapist, who has 13 years of experience contracting with a non-Texans NFL team, said she’s had to increase the amount of therapists she hires for the team because massage therapy has become a necessary part of recovery and injury prevention. Defector is keeping her name and team anonymous because she didn’t want to jeopardize her contract.

There are 22 women suing Watson, all represented by lawyer Tony Buzbee; five more reached out to Buzbee, but Buzbee said at a press conference there was not enough to bring lawsuits; one woman filed a lawsuit but declined to pursue it when the court said she had to use her real name; and one woman spoke with Sports Illustrated about her experience with Watson. There are also 18 women who provided statements supporting Watson, and five or six more therapists that the Texans hired. That’s more than 50 different massage therapists who said they have worked on Watson since he became a Texan in 2017.

Defector asked current and former players about their own massage therapy routines.

One current player, a cornerback, said he sees two different massage therapists during the season and gets three to four massages per week. In the offseason, he doesn’t get any massages. Another current player, a defensive tackle, said he gets two massages per week, and that he uses references to thoroughly vet the massage therapists that he hires to make sure they’re current in the latest technology of sports recovery, and to be certain they aren’t more interested in making money off him than doing good work.

One former player, a linebacker who retired in the last five years, said he got one massage per week during the season. He said most of his teammates had one per week, usually on Monday or Tuesday, and the two teams he played for only contracted a massage therapist if players asked, so most guys ended up finding their own in town who had worked on other players.

“Every player I know would find someone that is good and stick with them,” he said. “They would actually get possessive of other players stealing their time slots. I have never heard of anyone ever using 40 different people. I would bet a 15-year veteran that got massages weekly didn’t see half of the therapists Deshaun did.”
THE REST OF THE STORY

comments section
Chris Kluwe, (former NFL punter)

Just gonna echo the point that having that many massage therapists is not a normal thing for a player. At most you’d have three - the official team therapist at the facility who’d work on you for treatment there; a second personal one who’d work on you at home if you felt you needed it; and possibly a third located in your off-season state if you trained pretty extensively year round and your personal massage therapist couldn’t travel.

Of the times I had to get a massage, it was always because of injury (usually a hamstring strain), and as one of the therapists pointed out in the piece, those things *hurt*. You don’t get a deep tissue massage because you want one, you get it because you need one and are willing to put up with the discomfort to help your body heal faster.

Watson sounds like a real f#*&ing scumbag and I hope the people he hurt can find some peace.

You should work on dealing with your hatred for DW4 and instead keep your eye on the prize, i.e., concentrating on maximizing the # of high value Draft picks we can obtain for Watson when there's finally a resolution to this mishmash.
Are you saying my post was untrue?

I would love to get a bunch of picks for DW4. However if Caserio can't get them then don't cry over spilled milk and continue to take out the trash.

For me I just hope these ladies get justice. From what I've heard there are a few of them who don't want money, they want this to go criminal. If this happens DW4's in a world of crap.

I don't have to hate on DW4, he's going to get what he deserves, his money taken from him, no more endorsements and most importantly his reputation is ruined. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Trade me or else, freaking psychopath, LMAO

I just want this whole mess behind us ASAS with the hopes of getting as many picks as we can for DW4 based upon whatever his salvage value might be.
As to what's to become of DW4 & his plaintiffs ? All I can say is "que sera, sera".

I think this mess goes away quickly the moment Watson sits at the desk and starts cutting checks. The quicker he goes public with an apology, tells the NFL he will seek counseling, apologizes to each women then hands them a check, and agrees with the suspension the NFL doles out (about 8 games).....the better for all involved.

Watson needs to be concerned with what and was not done with the women and move on. Everyone likes a second chance that equals success story and that has to be Watson’s focus going forward. He also needs to step up and let the team know that he’s dropping his NTC for the betterment of his situation. He’ll get the same input that was given to him in the GM and HC selection.....LOL.

If Watson can accomplish this simple and effective gameplan.....everybody should come out winners. That being; Watson, the women, Texans, lawyers, and Watson’s new team.

I'd sit down and write 22 $500,000 checks to each of the women, spend $10 million on donations to 8 or 10 women's organizations and MAKE THIS $HIT GO AWAY ASAP! Then Like OT above said, apologize to everyone that's got one coming, become the local champion & poster-boy for women's causes, seek the counseling you clearly need, and make it right with the Texans and lets get back to work as soon as the Commish allows you to.

Either that, or beat it the hell outta town and we'll take what we can get for you.

I don’t think he wants to apologize or write any checks.

I think that in his mind he thinks he did nothing wrong.

And no one is able to talk any sense into him.

He could write out all those checks and still wind up in jail. CNND just posted a tweet saying that there are now 7 criminal investigations into Watson's behavior with these women. He could either go broke and go to jail or keep his money and go to jail. With that in mind, he's probably better off right now standing his ground and fighting for his freedom. The time he could have kept this out of the courts has come and gone.

I think we're well past that with so many of these cases going criminal.

Its only going to take a conviction from ONE of them to send Watson to prison for a decade or more.

I believe he's too arrogant to ever admit any wrongdoing publicly. And why I believe he's an arrogant man has everything to do with an $111 million guaranteed contract and demanding a trade four months after signing it. That situation alone is clear insight into his mentality.

That he apparently thought he was entitled to these women's bodies and they were subject to his sexual demands because he's a big time superstar entertainer just falls in line with his M.O.

His time in jail would depend on the Judge. Watson has no criminal history in his past that we know of and outside of this situation.....he's been a solid contributing citizen in the community. If he's going to jail, I think he probably gets 90 days, 2-3 year probation, directed counseling, and ends up paying the restitution fines he was foolishly fighting not to pay.

If there's only 1 conviction, maybe. There's what, 7 that are seeking criminal now? He gets 2 or more convictions, he's got to be looking at significant time, right?

What if anything is the link between Watson and these lawsuits & his decision and demands to be traded ?

I'd probably agree with you if we were talking about a single case / incident , I just can't see any judge going easy on him when you have the pattern of behavior established to such a degree that there are 7 criminal cases and 22 civil.
I think if it were not a celebrity , we'd be referring to this person as a serial offender and any judge would be harsh on that individual.

I think this has everything to do with him wanting a trade, up until the moment it became public anyway. Now that it's out in the open, no telling what his mindset is regarding wanting the trade.

Good question and who knows? I hope whoever does know eventually writes a book some day.

That said, it's my own opinion that I think Watson's behavior, both professionally with his contract and personal life with this behavior, are the results of an arrogant, entitled entertainer that appeared to believe he was untouchable and above accountability. Reality, however, had a different answer.

Damn shame, because the dude can ball. . .which is obviously the only reason why any of us know any of this stuff.

If the guy legitimately feels like he’s being targeted and is innocent, let that man fight for what he believes. I’ll always take the position of giving someone the benefit of the doubt if there’s no past history or behavior that signals allegations are true. Even then, I’m on the outside and have no way of knowing how much of what is alleged is true or false like a lot of folks on this board seem to be in the know about when the lawyers themselves don’t even know. I’ve....I’m sure he understands what’s at stake.

There is a connection. Texans knew about some of this in December.

You also have to remember any type of crimes against women was a nonstarter for Bob McNair. Anybody who got into that building having a history of putting hands on women, they snuck him past Bob. And Janice is right there with Bob on that, the foundation has given a lot of money to those causes. It's a big deal.

But Watson also wanted out because he didn't have a high opinion of the guys in that locker room, he wants a ride to the SB.

Maybe. I mean the Roethlisberger thing, the Antonio Brown thing, they were criminal, settled & disappeared.

These things are so hard to prove that if the victim isn’t pressing charges the AG/DA lets it go & not waste money on it.

Reading some of the posts from folks in here you’d think this dude was Jeffrey Epstein.

But the reality is is that it’s truly a no win situation for dude directly b/c of the sheer volume of suits and allegations. Whether he settled at the very beginning like everyone said he should’ve or he continues to fight, the damage is done. So short of complete exoneration, he’s still gonna be looked at with the side eye for a lot of people.

and for that I’m sad for dude if he truly didn’t do anything and all of these encounters were consensual.....or he was led to believe they were by the alleged victims....but at the same time if he did take advantage of these women..gotta pay the piper.

Unless Buzbee is perpetuating some massive fraud and is caught (which would actually work in our favor cause Watson's stock goes up) this will not end well for Watson.
If he avoids jail and a long-term ban from the NFL, there will be a team willing to pay an arm and a penis for him...I mean an arm and an anus...I mean an arm and a leg for him.

The less and less I think about this situation, this is all the result of DW4's actions and he has to own it. Mistakes were made whether criminal or not and the hope as a human being that he learns and grows from it. It's going to be a hella expensive lesson. Let the lawyers and/or legal system sort it out and move on (both accused and accusers) as difficult as it may be; unless someone has one of these that is functional:

The weird thing is not one of these girls went straight to the police to report a crime. I know the police are looking now but why didn’t any of them go to the police when it happened?

I’m not saying Deshaun isn’t into a little Kraft and tug with maybe a little Watson wiggle worm thrown in.

....especially if their attackers don’t have 2 nickels to rub together.

Only one woman came forward initially and this request for a settlement was made out of the public eye. When Watson refused, they (Buzbee and accuser) went public with the accusation. Next thing you know, 20+ Instagram masseuse’s step forward with their version of his freakiness, never really mention their multiple sessions with Watson......and then join in on the demand for a money settlement. Again, Watson didn’t budge and still hasn’t made any settlement payments to any of his accusers.

I’m guessing several folks began to wonder why the accusers didn’t go for criminal charges first and a civil settlement next. When Watson wasn’t playing ball Buzbee got one accuser to go for a criminal charges and when that didn’t work, he eventually convinced 6 more to step forward to improve their case. One thing, there has been plenty of time between the request for financial settlements to (7) now seeking criminal charges. Maybe this is a Buzbee squeeze play to get Hardin and Watson to settle before this goes to court.

I just don’t like how every move made by Buzbee is announced publicly.....why? I think Buzbee is trying to get guilty verdict be court of public opinion which may force Watson to just settle.

Just strange to me.
Because you're a guy.

You go to the police if you think the police are going to help. You don't go to the police if you don't think they're going to help. The concept of "innocent until proven guilty" works against the accuser in a he-said, she said situation. Women know that they're rarely going to get justice from the police in these sorts of situations.

Buzbee couldn't have forced a client to go criminal. That would have been his client's move. With Harden publicly calling out the complainants as "Liars," and then by fueling the fire later doubling down on that public accusation, it did not take Buzbee to push his clients to HPD's doorstep. Harden, as respected an attorney that he is, made a terrible rookie move..............in a situation like what Watson is in, you don't poke the bear...................
