Week 15 - Punched by the Tacks?

Seegara

Guitar Picker, Dog Lover, Woodworker
On Sunday, Dec. 15 the Texans take on the Titans in Nashville. CBS carries the game, beginning at 12 noon, our time. The Texans come in as a 3-point dog.

I join most of us in expecting a split with the Titans. It would be logical to look for each team to win in its own stadium. But the Texans could just as well be called the Yo-yos. If they play great one week, they go lousy the next game, and vice versa. So this should be our week to be in the up position, and I figure that takes precedence over home field advantage. Toros 35, Tacks 9.

This game has further reaching affects than just the playoffs or division title. It will also determine if Seegara can maintain his winning record when making the game threads. Can he do something the Texans can’t and string 3 wins together? We’ll find out.
That was just coincidence, of course. Poster of the prediction thread has nothing to do with game outcome.

I say we lose we always seem to upchuck the game in Nashville no matter how good or bad the Tacks are.

Tacks 24
Texans 20

Looks like Broncos figured out how to attack our D and teams may now have a blueprint going forward.
Only way to counter that is to attack the other teams weakness in what may be a shootout.
We shall see if our HC is good enough to come up with a plan.

Yep, go heavy on TE's, the Texans D couldn't cover a TE with a blanket

Bob will go for it on 4th and 1 and go empty backfield again (when the defense is horrible against the run), because he's the smartest guy on the field.

Hmmm, see answer above.

Titans vs. Texans predictions for Week 15
Erik Bacharach, Nashville TennesseanPublished 5:00 a.m. CT Dec. 12, 2019

Offense: TitansThe Titans totaled 552 yards – the most by the franchise since Nov. 10, 1991 (583 vs. Dallas) – and averaged a franchise-record 9.4 yards per play last week against the Raiders. So yeah, things are going well for a unit that has averaged 31.4 points since Week 7. The Texans' offense has plenty of firepower, too – it ranks 11th with 24.4 points per game and ninth with 376 yards per game – but it's not churning as effectively as Tennessee’s right now.

Defense: Titans
The nod in this category goes to the team that didn’t allow the Broncos and rookie quarterback Drew Lock (making only his second career start) to build a 31-3 lead by halftime in Week 14. Houston has struggled defensively all season, ranking 25th in yards allowed per game (375.3) and tied for 20th in points allowed (23.8). The Titans rank 19th (361.6) and ninth (19.6) in those two categories, respectively.

Special teams: Texans
The Titans have arguably the league’s best punter in Brett Kern. They’ve been solid on returns, both offensively and defensively. But field-goal kicking continues to be a liability after Ryan Succop missed yet another attempt last week to bring him to 1-for-5 on field goals this season. Houston’s Ka'imi Fairbairn is 16-for-21 on field goals this season.
Intangibles: Titans
No team is hotter right now than the Titans, who have gone 6-1 since Ryan Tannehill took over as starting quarterback in Week 7. And they’ve been consistent at Nissan Stadium; a win Sunday would give the Titans 21 wins in their 27 most recent home games.

Coaching: Titans
Titans coach Mike Vrabel gives credit to Bill O’Brien for “(bringing) me into this league from a coaching perspective. I would say that he probably prepared me more than anybody for this job.” At the moment, though, Vrabel gets credit for leading the hottest team in the NFL, and O’Brien’s Texans are coming off the most shocking result of Week 14 after getting embarrassed by lowly Denver.

Predictions

Erik Bacharach, Titans beat writer
Titans 31, Texans 28: Houston doesn’t have the defense to stop the multi-faceted Titans offense, which tops 30 points for a fifth straight game. With first place in the division on the line, the Titans give the home crowd reason to celebrate.

Tommy Deas, Tennessean sports director
Titans 35, Texans 27: The Texans aren’t as good as they looked against the Patriots or as bad as they looked against the Broncos. The Titans are every bit as good as they have seemed in this run. Expect a loud, fun atmosphere in Nissan Stadium as the Titans keep it going.

Gentry Estes, sports columnist
Titans 27, Texans 20: The Titans are playing too well to think it will cease at home against a capable – but unpredictable – Texans team that has been even more impossible to project week to week than the Titans have been.

Meh....the Tacks have played the scourge of defenses (I would include us in there at this time) in those wins.
Buccaneers - 29 ppg
Chiefs - 21 ppg, 138 rushing yards per game (Henry dropped 188 on them)
Jags - 25 ppg, 141 rushing yards per game (Henry dropped 159 on them)
Colts - 22 ppg, only 99 rushing yards per game (Henry dropped 149 on them)
Raiders - 28 ppg, 108 rushing yards per game (Henry ONLY dropped 103 on them)
270 yards passing per game (Tannehill went Montana on them with almost 400 yds)

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I can sense a common theme there. Sure hope Henry's hamstring isn't 100% Sunday, hope he pulls his hammy getting up from the breakfast table.

EDIT: the line I quoted is not @CloakNNNdagger's quote. It is from a Titans homer reporter.

The only one to pick us is also took the Jets tonight.
Looks like he's gunning for best record. I forgot who, but I recall everyone in the pre-game show for the Pats/Texans game picked the Pats. One guy said he'll pick the Texans as he needs to move up in the standings.

I think the Texans pull off an "upset".
They were stung by that defeat at the hands of the lowly ranked Broncos.
I think they come out and make a statement.
Good guys 27- Tacks 14.

The Titans are still owned by THE ADDAMS FAMILY...
Texans 28
Tit"s 10

Normally I'd agree with you on the Adams family comment. Except Amy Adams Strunk is decidedly different. She's been investing in the team and facilities in many ways. She bought a house in Nashville. She's actually seen in Nashville. Fans figured out that she was different when the Titans played last in Kansas City and one of the local talk radio stations organized a tailgate in the Chiefs parking lot. Amy Strunk showed up unannounced, spent over an hour there and posed for pictures with everyone. And she's done that a few times since then in Nashville. People here notice the difference.

Imagine the blow to the ego of Broncos fans everywhere.

According to Captain Underdog.... the Jets have a better chance of beating the Ravens.... than the Broncos have of beating KC a week after Denver stomped the Texans.

yep they figured out the strategy is to just show up.

Of course the Titans are being favored. They are the flavor of the month. They aren't winning the Super Bowl. They will however make life difficult for us these last couple of weeks. They will run out of steam like us at some point.

I have 0% faith in Romeo Crennel to have the defense anywhere near ready for any of the remaining games.

I'm calling it now: The Texans will finish the season with a record of 8-8. Still, I'm surprised that they somehow got 8 wins. At least it wasn't a losing season.

I won’t be watching but the Texans will blow the titans out. You have to make a statement the following week after losing bad like vs Baltimore. Texans have enough talent. Coach sucks though. 28-10 texans

I don't even care. This season feels like a lost cause …. This team is just too inconsistent. Seems like one week Watson is super human , the next he's mediocre and one week OB is competent , the next he's the worst coach in the league - Worse than that dude in South Oklahoma ….

I'm almost to the point where losing out and missing the playoffs is the only path that leads beyond mediocrity for this franchise - assuming that would get OB canned.

Aman, I'm tired of the roller coaster and this LWW thing is weird to the point you almost feel its planned. Especially considering who some of the wins were against and who some of the loses were against. Fire OB and hire a new HC, trade Watson and draft a new QB at this point I don't care what they do just stop the damn up and down stuff.

You're right, even Earl Campbell who for years refused to have anything to do with that organization is now on board. He's out there this weekend. He even did some fan dinner thing with Eddie George in Nashville last night. Sadly, he tried supporting Texans because of his love of the Houston fans, however the Texans apparently didn't want to have anything to do with him or any others of the old Oiler alum for that matter.

I used to get all bent out of shape on this subject but I am long over it now. Like Earl, I've decided to move on too. I now live in another NFL city of a team that I also supported as a kid. Life is too short to stay bitter about all of this stuff. The Oilers are long dead to me now.

Yeah , the Titans need to sweep to have any real shot at the division because the Texans are a game up on both divisional and conference opponents. 3-1 / 2-2 , 7-3 / 6-4.
And if I remember right the Tacks are screwed on tiebreakers as well for the WC. The South is its best shot. (I can't open the link on my work computer, so it may have said the same thing I just did)

Honestly , I think its easier to find a qualified coach than it is to find a capable QB.
I'd prefer to move on from OB and give Watson a look with another staff , maybe they can get some consistency out of him and put him in an offense that suits him better ….

Who knows what happens with the AFC South or the wildcard ….

Steelers - Bills , Jets , Ravens.
Titans - Houston , New Orleans , Houston.
Texans - Titans , Buc's , Titans.

Any one of those teams could go 3-0 or 0-3.

For sure. You forgot to list the Bills, they may miss all together if they are not careful. All they have to do is beat the Steelers this Sunday and they are in.

Bills - @Steelers, @Patriots, Jets

Gonna be interesting for sure.

Don’t worry.
The Buccs will play spoiler. :hides:

The Bucs have won their last 3 and are 4-1 in the last 5. If Winston is not spotting teams 14 to 21 points in the 1st QTR (like he did with the Titans) then the Bucs do pretty well. He spotted the Colts 10 points in the 1st QTR last week and then threw another pick 6 in the 3rd QTR, however overcame those 17 points by throwing for 4 TDs and almost 460 yards.

The Bucs can beat the Texans if Winston is more Dr Jekyll than Mr Hyde in that game.

The Steelers - Bills game is important to the Texans. I'm pulling for the Steelers to win. That would make them the 5 seed. If the Texans end up as 4 seed we would play the Steelers in the wildcard game.

One good thing you can say about the O'Brien lead Texans is that they have a good record (1-0) against 3rd string rookie QBs in the playoffs (Connor Cook). So they just might have a chance against Devlin 'Duck' Hodges.
