It's crazy because the numbers really are great but to anyone watching I think we could all say he can be better and we should all admit he's been lucky so far to not have been picked off.

I have that feeling in my bones that Blake Cashman is going to pick him on Sunday.

Hope not! I still have a lot of love for Cashman (he was one that I desperately wanted re-signed) but wouldn't hate him having a bad game on Sunday.

For some context:
1385 yards - 3rd in the league.
7 TDs - tied for 10th in the league.
3 interceptions - that's harder to put into context because of people who've thrown a minimal number of passes without an interception, but that's an interception on 1.7% of his passes, and that's roughly tied for 10th in the league.

QBR, isn't a "stat" that I care about being a subjective evaluation of play but he is 9th in the league.
CMP% - 10th in the league.
Passer Rating - 10th in the league.

Sacked 14 times - tied for 9th most in the league with Sam Darnold.
2 Fumbles - tied for 20th in the league, but this stat includes all positions.

He's also 4th in the league in on target throw percentage.

I'd also like to point out that Nico is still the leader in receiving yards and is about 70 yards ahead of Chase.

Stroud's been really good this yr, not great.

However he's had the one thing that all great QB's have, the ability to come up big in the clutch and late in games.
 
I am concerned that Quincy Avery is a QB coach for Stroud. Not because of the Watson drama. But does he really have a track record of improving his players for the long term?

His list of success is:
Deshaun Watson - regressed
Justin Fields - Bears weren’t the best to him but he has moved on to his next team.
Jalen Hurts - some say he is regressing
Trey Lance young QB with bright future.
CJ Stroud young QB with bright future.

If I was a young QB I would be concerned about the long term track record he has had with talented QBs. They start off hot but never last.

Just an observation.

Edit- I confused Trey Lance with Jordan Love. Ignore the bright future remark.

What I don't get is why teams haven't gone out and signed some of the notable QB personal coach gurus. Like the guy in Florida who taught Lamar how to pass, the guy Brady and others trained under, etc

Teams spend a fortune on QBs, why don't they put absolutely everything that they can around the QB to support them (including coaches)

You have 5 QBs that all have had injuries and missed games.

1 is going into his second year and still performing at a high level. He was injured and missed games in his first year.

The other 4 were injured at some point in their careers. All 4 have been said to have regressed.

All of them were affected by injuries so I don’t buy the injury excuse.

The issue is truly being able to tell who does what.

How much of certain guys is innate talent, how much is work put in all the different camps these guys go to, how much is their OC, their head coach, their position coach?

It's so innately difficult to pinpoint who has helped improve something at any one quantifiable factor.

Not to mention how personalities and coaching styles fit into this. It's like hiring any other professional - a personal trainer, a therapist, etc. etc. etc. The guy that works for you might not necessarily be the guy that works for me.

One thing I'll say though is CJ went from basically not being able to throw on the run at Ohio State to being able to do it incredibly reliably at the NFL level.

If I had a franchise QB who was comfortable with a personal coach and wanted him at QB coach (not even talking about calling plays), I'd immediately leave my ego at the door and bring the guy in. To do otherwise would be dumb at best.

Okay but then you're missing the part where the QBs wanted that. Your whole point seems to hinge on a bunch of hypotheticals that aren't happening and only looking at things at a surface level of analysis.

Also missing the part of how a staff has to work as one entity as well.

But there's a reason that guy isn't a "real" coach. No legit organized football entity has decided to give this guy money.

& even if you did that the player would have to find another person to work with him in the offseason since his old "QB coach" would not be allowed to work with the player outside of team activities according to the CBA.
