Texans Training Camp Preview 2023

Lots of good things to watch coming up…Ward-Petrie at S will be one of my favorites. My most hopeful and interesting player however will be Juice Scruggs. What a great name for a player that anchors the O-Line. Don’t know anything about him nor had I ever heard his name before…I don’t watch college football. But I love that old school look he brings. Guy just looks like he has no surrender (I have to resist thoughts of hearing Earl Scruggs playing that Beverly Hillbillies banjo tune when he runs onto the field). Slowick has stated he wants his offense to “beat up” the defense so if Scruggs succeeds he could be a great unifier of that mentality.

Center will be an interesting contest during camp. The unknown is whether Deiter is fully back from his foot issues. With Quessenberry and Patterson also in the mix, the position is a real question mark. If healthy, Deiter is versatile, will likely make the 53. Patterson to the PS? Quessenberry may not make the team.

I’m going to throw this out there just for sake of a feeling I’ve got. It seems to me that first with Green and then moving up to take Scruggs NC seems to be targeting low center of gravity interior linemen. Thick legs, trunks, butts. Dieter is 6-6 so I wonder if he’s more looked at as a swing lineman. I will guess that the C position is Scrugg’s to lose but it’s a pretty tall order.

Green is 6'4. That's not especially short ,but you may very well be right. I'll have to pay more attention to his body type. I will always prefer ol with a trunk as long as they have arm length to.

Nah, it has been a lot of years but last time I heard he was good, just not being a public person. It can be very weird talking football as a semi-public person when strangers are angry at the team, and sometimes take it out on you because you listen and they feel unheard by the team. It's a weird dynamic and not something you really want to embrace too much, particularly when football is supposed to be a diversion.

Part of my 2023 is just seeking out the people who should like the football but exited out for various reasons, including health reasons. Reconnecting. Bad football will break your heart, sometimes it is best to dial back your care.
Dialing back my care is exactly what I've done this offseason.

If you were as apathetic as you claim, you wouldn't be so passionate

You're misplacing my disappointment in things not changing down on Kirby as being passionate. My give a bleep meter should be judged by the fact that I chose to not renew our season tickets. This time my wife was on board with this.

And the abomination of the previous 2?

This is the best offseason this team probably ever had.

If we win 10 games and we all pitch in for a Stroud jersey will you wear it?
If/when they make an AFCCG I will buy/wear a Stroud jersey. Unless something like 51-7 happens. Heck, I'll wear a David from the inner city jersey if they make a SB.

If Davis Mills starts week 1 that would lead me to believe they were “told” to draft Stroud against their better judgment & are salty about it.
If Stroud signs and reports on time and Mills starts over a healthy Stroud, I agree

Ok I judge your give a bleep meter by the fact that you are #3 on the most posts list. I also judge your use of the word apathetic since you post constantly about the conditions on Kirby. You should use the word apostasy about those conditions because you are religious in constantly refuting them but then if you did you wouldn’t even post having truly given up your beliefs in the Texans and the conditions on Kirby. What are you, really?

A person who has met some great friends on this MB and enjoy visiting with them not only here but personally. We've helped each other out in our personal lives. Something that maybe you dont realize. I love talking football, but dont like how the McNair's run the team because winning isn't and never has been a priority for them. Shoot me

I just don’t understand why people get so incredibly upset/hurt when someone disagrees with them nowadays? I’m skeptical of this team as well, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to post less here because of that.

I want this team to get right at the end of the day because it’s my home team.

Stop here and somehow the world just looks a little brighter.

This has nothing to do with being incredibly upset or hurt. In fact I’ve never posted my feelings on the ownerships’ handling of the team. I’m just curious what makes an “apathetic” person constantly post about a condition they are apathetic about. Just call it human interest.

@Texans_Chick Do you know if John Metchie is recovered and ready to compete? Thanks in advance!

Hey man

There’s a poster on here named Cloaknnndagger and he’s a doctor.

He definitely is the one to ask that question to

He hangs out in the injury thread and answers questions like that

Wheres Cloak at? I'd like to know what kind of timeline/time frame we can expect for Metchie and this hamstring issue.

This is a new injury for him correct??? Does anyone know the date of the injury?
Hoping he gives it time to heal correctly and there are no setbacks...would really like to see this kid on the field.

Again I could be mistaken but I seem to remember something about him being good to go in TC but I think CnD said something about him needing to get back into playing shape first

Two things, 1st this is the reason he started the injury thread & why we try to keep anything not injury related out of that thread. So he doesn’t have to rehash the same information over & over again.

If you’re thinking about it, chances are he already posted about it. Sharpen your search skills & search that thread for Metchie’s name.

2nd, anytime you want to draw someone’s attention to a post, just type the @ sign, then the person’s username. You don’t need to know the exact spelling, just the 1st few characters then you can select from a drop down list. He will get an alert & a link to the post.

AWESOME! Thanks for the shortcut info!

I did some searching a while back. Metchie suffered a grade 2 partial tear/strain of the hamstring during an organized team activity early in the offseason program. On May 23, there was a report he had missed workouts for the past few weeks; so he suffered the setback early in May.

I also found comments, for a non-athlete, recovery from a grade 2 hamstring ran 4 to 8 weeks. So Metchie has had 10 or 11 weeks of rehab.

I couldn't remember what CND said about Metchie's hamstring, so I sharpened my search skills.

Metchie suffered a grade II hamstring tear the first week in OTAs. He has not practiced since..............Demeco Ryans said. Metchie is on the "right path" and should be ready for TC.....................
Is this the same leg that he tore the ACL on?
I believe so, but I have not been able to confirm this. The one thing that that we do know from studies is that following ACL repair, there is increased risk for hamstring tears, independent of which side the graft is taken.

I don't want to put words in someone's mouth, but I think Metchie needs to take it a little easy in 2023 in order to come out strong for 2024. That's when I believe the Texans will be competeting for the Division title and the playoffs. Watch his snap counts this season.

CNd was pretty optimistic with a rtp at 5-6 weeks. I hadn't seen his posts when I googled a few weeks later and found rehab taking 4-8 weeks. Metchie has had 10 or 11 weeks to recover, so hopefully he's good.
