I really like the red uniform!

Blue helmet, red jersey, blue pants..

I personally really liked the red helmet. I think the blue pants and red socks would look great with them.

I also like the mock-up above with the blue-red-blue-red top to bottom. That also looks great.

Now back to your regularly scheduled episode of queer eye for the straight guy.

I dig the left helmet, especially w/adding the star on the back that the right helmet has.

I'm curious to see the sides of the the helmet on the right.

Pretty sure it's the same design on both helmets..

Like the rest of the uniform, they're the same helmet..

i'm not so sure
the helmet on the right seems to have big logos on the sides (a red on left & a bleu one right)

I personally really liked the red helmet.

not against it but the current version is too shiny for my taste

Reminds me of the Vikings with their horns on the helmet.

i'd prefer forward pointing horns

The blue color will be changing to "Houston Blue" anyway. I'm sure they'll continue to have some kind of "Battle Red" uniforms occasionally.

Get ready for the new uniforms which we have no idea of what they'll look like. It'll be a gazillion post thread, rest assured. :)

I'm worried that somehow someway they're going to top the Rockets' late 90's pajamas jerseys in absurdity.. I really really hope I like these new jerseys/rebrand, because whatever it is, it's here to stay.

Astros knocked it out of the park with their rebrand..

Okay….I’ll drag my same old thoughts to the table on this one.

I believe the new color the Texans could add would be either “Gun-Metal Gray Metallic” or “Crete Gray Metallic”. Both colors could work since Texans and guns have a history and there’s enough concrete poured in Houston to justify the color if there might be some critics of using the word “Gun” to identify any color.

Gun-Metal Gray Metallic helmets with the current logo.

Gun-Metal Gray Pants (Home/Road) with wide Steel Blue Stripe and Battle Red Outline Stripe on both sides.

Gun-Metal Gray Shoes.

Home Jersey, Steel Blue. Road Jersey, Liberty White. Color Rush Jersey, Gun-Metal Gray. Battle Red Game, Battle Red Jersey. White-Out Jersey, Liberty White.

White-Out Pants, Liberty White with wide Gun-Metal Gray Stripe and Steel Blue Outline Stripe on one side and a Battle Red Outline Stripe on the other side.

Home/Road Facemask, Steel Blue. Color Rush Facemask, Gun-Metal Gray. Battle Red Facemask, Battle Red.

Texans Throwback Uniform, Bonnet Blue (As close to Columbia Blue w/o being Columbia Blue) substitutes Steel Blue on Logo, Jersey, Pants.

Throwback Facemask, Gun-Metal Gray Metallic.

Well, shoot, I hope not, but they tend to stick to their guns about that topic.
They are quick out the shoot, like a gun shot, and not gun shy in the least.
I hope they don't jump the gun, but I get the topic can make you feel under the gun.
I'm just shooting from the hip here, but I think gun metal would be a good color as well.
I've been known as a straight shooter, living in a shotgun apartment, but I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot.
Well, gotta go. I have to get my dogs Trigger and Bullet out to the bathroom.

I don't know what's worse, uniform talk or roof talk.

That said, if they come out with something as butt ugly as the Roughnecks had this past season, that will be bad. Changes seem to be being made to make them appear as they are a real NFL team for a change. Only took 22 years. Don't **** it up with shitty ass uniforms.

I don't really care or worry too much about uniforms.

My wife, however, her fandom could be in jeopardy with the wrong uniform decision.

With that said, her taste in uniforms is beyond me. Uniforms everyone loves, she hates. She hates the powder blue charger unis, for example. I think her favorite Texans unis were the red shirts and white pants.

I am going to post my opinion here, so if OPINIONS are not your thing, please skip ahead.

I think team uniforms, colors and logos are one of the most important things about a team that you can have. It pains me to see some fans take a non-caring stance when it comes to these items.

Every nation has a flag/colors. Every gang, family, troop regiment, military branch, even many businesses.

Your uniform is one of the most recognizable elements of the team you cheer for. Besides wins, it is the focus that drives sales and revenue. If you are one of the bazillion fans who buy team merch, it is also the colors and look that you yourself will be wearing as jerseys, hats, t-shirts, etc.

Like warriors back in history used to adorn their armor to instill fear, so too can our uniform serve to instill a bit of awe in opposing teams and fans.

I consider this team and it's fans family. Win or lose, I am proud to display our coat of arms.

If the Texans get this right, it can go a LONG way to righting a sinking ship.

Before reading your post, I thought the team colors should be something I would like to wear. That was the most important aspect to me.

Now, I can see how the colors can be a factor in the game itself. So I propose rainbow uniforms .

Why? Because there has to be a color in the rainbow someone is afraid of.

I'm all for it.

I'm going to respond to this because I'm one of the ones that took the opposing stance.

Like I said, I don't find it important. I can see how some people do, and that's fine.

To me, insignias and colors and logos are a symbol of what's important: that feeling of camaraderie and community. Insignias and logos frequently evolve and change over time, as do the colors. But I'm not a fan of the Texans because of their colors or the insignia. I'm a fan of theirs because it's my home town team. They could change the insignia to a amoeba and I wouldn't care about it, but I would wear it proudly.

A team can have a symbol and a logo, but if there's no solidarity between the people it represents to back it up, it doesn't matter.

The only problem with that is that teams wear a ton of different combinations and even different colors these days, so much so you can't really recognize them. I mean, the classics like the Steelers, Packers and Cowboys, you KNOW who those teams are when you see them while flipping channels or watching highlights or whatever. But when the Bears throw on the orange jerseys it's like you're saying to yourself that those Browns unis look more horrible than usual. Oh, no, wait, those are the Bears?

The NBA is the worst and MLB is getting there too. I can watch NBA highlights and not recognize a single team. Hell, the Rockets wore green and gold this year. So much for team colors being important. And they still wear the pajamas on occasion. Have you seen the Red Sox city connect unis? Yellow and blue. The Padres god awful salsa whatever unis. Hell, I saw an NBA team in what looked kinda like the old Astros rainbows and I couldn't figure out who the hell that team was. Turned out it was the Jazz. There's just no more looking at a team and immediately recognizing who they are just by their uniform.

So it just doesn't matter that much to me anymore, unless it's just terrible, like the Roughnecks are.

YOU might just be on to something. I mean...what straight football player would want to be gang tackled by a group of men in rainbow colored uniforms? Talk about instilling fear in the opposing team, that would do it.

I love the new red helmets, but hate the ketchup bottle uniforms. I'm not sure how you can integrate the red helmets with the current red, White and blue uniforms. I'm a lousy color coordinator.

I don't like any of these changes, especially hated that red helmet look last year that has to be one of the worst looking helmet/uniform looks in league history. Leave my team alone.

All a matter of taste I know most people even our own fans have grown to detest our uniforms for some reason. I've always actually really liked our look and name from day 1. Beyond them playing in my old hometown I grew up in it's actually a major contributor for them being my favorite team. I love Texas and the flag and always felt like they got it right incorporating all of that into this team's look.

I've actually really always loved our traditional battle red look, the red unis with the white pants. I like that look more than our normal uniforms only because they look more like an AFC team in that scheme(our normal scheme looks more NFC, I'm weird I know). But I think they look REALLY bad when they go with those red uniforms with all red pants or the blue pants, those schemes are dog ugly and need to be abandoned. Stick with battle reds with white pants.

But we're reaching the 20 year nostalgia phase for our look. I know most fans I've encountered online only associate everything Texans with misery but I've actually got a lot of good memories following the team wearing these colors and all. I don't think it's the uniforms that have been the problem. For them to start radically changing our uniforms up into something I don't like would be a major blow especially after watching this team fall apart and have to rebuild again for like the 7th time. Uniform change coming up makes me nervous, most I've seen around the league look bad to the point of pushing me to lose interest in the league. What can I say I'm a sucker for aesthetics.

Not true. Has nothing to do with Color Rush or Thursday nights.
Thank you for correcting me.

what was the reasoning behind the red helmet in 2022?

EDIT: I found this

For the past 10 years, NFL teams were only allowed to wear one helmet, but that's no longer the case. The league rescinded its one-helmet rule in 2021 and when that happened, the NFL announced that teams would be free to wear an alternate helmet starting with the 2022 season, which paved the way for the Texans to unveil their new helmet on Tuesday.
