Welcome to Houston CJ Stroud

Could this be fact? And if so...why did we not trade down. For the record, I think CJ was the best QB who is ready to play. Richardson could be the best in the draft in 2 or 3 years. But, as far as immediate action and impact, CJ is the most ready IMO. Below is a section taken from the article I posted. What are your thoughts?

“C.J. has been a productive player, an accurate player, certainly has a long way to go. He’s a player our coaches spent a lot of time on, felt that was best decision to make.’
The reason for this is pretty clear: The front office didn’t really want Stroud. It was extremely well known throughout league circles that the Texans draft board was Young, Levis, Richardson, Stroud — with the football people in the organization wanting to roll the dice on a player with home run potential, rather than hitting a double.

LMAO @ "It was extremely well known throughout league circles that the Texans draft board was Young, Levis, Richardson, Stroud"

I'm so sick of these know-nothing blowhards acting like they had any insight into the Texans FO.

NOBODY HAD A FREAKIN' CLUE!!!!!!! :woot2:

He will have his growing pains as a young qb, but as i’ve said so many times in these situations, its about how Meco & co. Go about his development. I know there’s sone concern about how he’ll handle pressure b/c he showed some minor issues with it in college, but im not worried b/c i can see he has all the tools & he showed in the georgia game that he can adjust and fold in the coaching to his game.

If they take Anderson at 2, Stroud, Richardson, and Young are gone well before 12. Who were the Texans supposed to take at 12? Levis? Dude is falling like a rock.

(from articles)

"It can be dangerous reading too much into body language, especially at the end of a long night like Day 1 of the draft can be — but words speak louder than actions here, and Caserio did not sound like a man who was overjoyed to have his QB of the future."

Oh God! An internet draft expert and an internet body language expert :hankpalm:

It’s unbelievable how people act like they know anything about this. 24 hours ago we were talking about how the FO have kept their cards incredibly close to their chest, and now some are acting like we accidentally cc’d the whole NFL our draft board.

Only Texans fans would come away with 2 of the best players in the draft and find a way to complain

We are a beaten down fanbase. lol

That said, folks gotta' get over it and start enjoying the ride, especially when they hire one of the hottest names in new coaches and do everything they can to give him great talent with his first draft.

lmao!!! I'm assuming none of these nimrods have watched much of Nick Caserio, because while he looked tired (as would be expected of a GM working a draft hard), I thought he looked happy.

my thoughts exactly. The Texans made their pick with like 3-4 minutes left on the clock. What’s apparent is that the late pre-draft talk about us going in a different direction with #2 was all smoke. I think even without the trade for #3, they were going Stroud. The only thing in question imo was how much draft capital Meco was gonna let NC use to move up. Late draft chatter was that Wilson was gonna be the guy at 12…but NC worked something with AZ and that put Anderson in play.

Yeah, they basically ran to pick CJ, fastest pick in the draft. It was always QB at 2.

Yep! I would not be surprised if Stroud was always high on their board behind Young. They kept their cards so close to their chest that I doubt anyone had any sort of clue about their intentions or draft rankings.

And I love DeMeco getting the stud from his alma mater. He's been watching him develop for three years, and with DeMeco's background as both a great defensive player and DC, I have zero doubts about his confidence in the pick. DeMeco will have a player that he can mold and mentor himself as a cornerstone of his defense.

I'm beyond excited about these two players. :texflag:

Honestly they had me thinking they ran up to get Anderson. I was excited when Stroud’s name was called, even more excited when they traded up.

I call BS on Benjamin Solak (who?) and James Daton (louder who?).

GM Nick Caserio calls QB C J Stroud moments before he is picked 2023 NFL Draft live call video
(Also add this post draft comment >
Stroud was also quick to praise the offensive linemen who'll soon block for him.
"We already got some great o-linemen," Stroud said. "Shout out to the o-line in H-Town already. I'm going to take care of y'all. We're going to try to turn this thing around.")

No. 1: C.J. Stroud, Ohio State
What Simms Said: “This is as close to Joe Burrow as I’ve seen coming out in the draft here. I mean, when you just talk about great decision-making, quickness…when you talk about hitting the bullseye on a consistent basis, C.J. Stroud’s ability to make high-level throws and just drop the ball in receiver’s pockets, hit them in the chest, wherever, it’s off the charts good…his arm is better than Burrow’s was coming out…his throwing, especially with the ability to power throw and put the ball into tight windows time after time after time, I’d actually give him the advantage over Joe Burrow in that department.”

Wow - coming from Simms and not some TT message board homer, that is something.

I've been digging deeper into his game tapes and I noticed a few things:

Ohio St. did run a number of play action and bootlegs, both are integral part of the WCO.

They also have a mixed of zone scheme, both inside and outside besides the gap scheme and some power blocking.
And RPOs plays, of course (but mostly for passing purpose or for the QB to hand the ball to the RB). This is confirmed by doing some Google search on the Buckeyes offensive scheme in the last couple of years.

In another word, Stroud had had some experience in what the Texans will be putting in with Slowik.

I imagine that was why CJ said what he said on the following article.

They definitely had a plan going in.

It was fast, so was Anderson. I think it was in play from the start. Only question is would the plan alter if Young was still there. I don’t think so, CJ from what I've heard, seen and read was the pick. Young was not the QB that they wanted. Another reason I thought that is how much information we heard about CJ visiting. Meanwhile, Young was here but we didn't hear really anything about it.

I think they understood 100% that the panthers didn't trade that far for anyone other than BY.

I feel Nick did a helleva job orchestrating moves to keep everyone in our front office happy. Even if the picks don't pan out, he showed he could negotiate the market well. Props to them all for keeping such a tight lid on things.

I know Daniel Jeremiah mocked it to happen (Wednesday or so) ,but I believe that leak came from AZ once we started discussing trade compensation.

Coleridge is an objectively cool name though.

I don’t know about that….i bet when his boys finally found out what his real name was in high school and college, he was mercilessly mocked and ridiculed…until they found out he could ball that is…

His name is Coleridge Bernard but somehow ends up with the initials CJ. Maybe it’s because he is Junior?
Coleridge Bernard…… hmmm? I think I’d change my name to CJ as well.
Dude gotta be good being Coleridge Bernard!

Or until they tried to clown on him in front of Coleridge Stroud III..

We've had laughable QBs before....

.... I love a sense of humor as much as anyone in possession of one.... but.... I look forward to a day when people find out our QB is coming and they stop laughing.

Monday through Saturday, be lose, be cool, have fun and still practice hard.

Come Sunday, I want a cold hearted bloodthirsty killer who keeps teammates accountable.

A quick tangent. Did anyone notice the handshake between Goodell and Jalen Carter? I always thought the players and Goodell were overly dramatic with the big bear hugs. However, that handshake makes me wonder if he is spending time with the players during the draft week.

Coleridge Bernard Stroud. Sounds like a mid 50's guy sitting in his den, wearing a smoker's jacket, smoking on a pipe and sipping brandy from a decanter, all while running his multi-million dollar brokerage firm on the phone.

I sort of agree..... as long as he holds them accountable Monday-Saturday..... a blood thirsty killer thats going after our players may leave a whole lot of positions open and we don't have that kind of depth.

I get a real Caddyshack vibe myself from that name too.

Hopefully he comes from the Peter Blunt system.... the only good scene from the sequel.

Coleridge is an objectively cool name though. Coleridge Stroud sounds like a Dystopian Young Adult Fiction protagonist. Or a Civil War general.

No, Coleridge Bernard sounds like an old blues guy who sits in a smoky dump of a bar playing a beat up guitar and although he only knows 3 chords he makes enough music to sing about dusting his room or getting drunk with the gal down the street.

And LITERALLY sipping brandy from a decanter with Brownie McGee and Sonny Terry

And ole'Coleridge sings with more heart then anyone in these parts has heard before. His fingers sail through blues scales on his cheap guitar while the curvy Miss. Minie serves icy drinks at the bar.

When his 30 minute set on stage is over there's hardly an applause. Almost no one is in the smokey bar ,but one man steps forward.

A man named Cal approaches him with a bullhead pin on his jacket...

"Thas' real good. Can I buy you a whiskey? Folks need to hear you. I know some record executives who'd love what you do. Just play a few songs for'em." Cal says.

Ole'Coleridge was happy to hear the compliment, but shy like always. He looked hard at the ground for a minute before he responded.

"I'm not so good at tests, Mister."
