2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

They were first round picks and that’s all that matters. Meaning every first round pick in the quarterback class are not bust.
At least Zach Wilson is still in the league, as is Sam Darnold. Maybe not a bust, but certainly not worth 1.2

I thought we would win that day. I couldn’t believe you guys took us down that day. No disrespect cause the Texans had a good team that year.
That was 2008 and no it wasn't a real good Texans team. They were 8-8, but the offense was pretty good.

How the F that’s making a mistake like the Jets? Why do they have to always go negative with their hot takes. Why can’t they be like the Bengals or Jacksonville who drafted their quarterbacks first overall.
Because the Bengals and Jacksonville drafted QBs better than anyone in this QB class. This is a smart take. Don't reach for a QB you aren't in love with just because you need a QB

I have my doubts with Trevor Lawrence. When I saw him play he looked like a better version of Mills.

Tunsil had some character questions, but his dedication to football had never been questioned.
What were Tunsil's issues besides the whole weed gas mask thing? I honestly don't remember. Were their actually character issues? Like he was a jerk or didn't practice hard, out of shape, etc? I know weed is illegal in MS, but would anyone bat an eye if there was a picture of Levis turning up a bottle of Kentucky bourbon?

Will Anderson isn't a can't miss prospect. Tyree Wilson has major injury concerns despite having some pretty solid tape. Not really sure what to think lol
Nolan Smith is the most versatile player in this draft. The DC can do more with Smith to create different matchups and confuse the offense. He takes away the outside on his side, makes many plays running down RBs and QBs from behind, and nobody plays sideline to sideline as well as Smith.

No questions re. football. He was suspended 7 games, I believe in his junior year for accepting an agent's gifts. He was also accused of assault against his stepfather by his stepfather.........but it was thrown out, as it was determined that he was protecting his mother from being abused by his stepdad.

I've tried. I just can't see a NFL QB inside Richardson. It takes so much more than being a great athlete. Being a plus athlete is a bonus. QB is the position where you have to have an innate feel for the game. Tools are important, but they never trump instincts.

Of course, I didn't see Hurts being the QB he has become. But that was more about his arm and accuracy. The job the Eagles have done with Hurts is the greatest I've ever seen at the QB position. But, Hurts had a feel for the game since his freshman season at Alabama. The coaching job to make Richardson a legit NFL QB will be 10X harder.

I don't totally disagree with you. I've used the word "athlete" 100 times with this guy. He's not yet a QB. He's an athlete. But if they aren't taking CJ (and he's still the guy I'd take) then it seems to me that Richardson is the next man up if they stay put at #2. Yes, he's a project. But he's a project with a huge upside. Big arm talent. Perfect size for the position and speed like a RB. I get it...he could bust. But at the very least, he can use his athleticism at the outset whenever they decide to throw him to the wolves. And he seems like a smart kid. I think he can get there personally, but yes, he does have some bust potential. But to me, less of a chance of a bust than Levis.

To put it another way, if I'm in the room and Nick and gang are like ok guys, we're taking Levis or Richardson at 2. Let's take a vote and majority wins. I'm raising my arm as high as I can for Richardson. I don't like Levis and see Ryan Leaf when I look at him. If it's Levis, I'll find some way to get on the caboose of that train, but it won't be easy.

Probably would work harder than Manziel and Young too instead of relying on his athleticism. Just a guess.

Richardson's completion %, mistakes, and TD to INT ratio are a very hard pill to swallow.

Considering there are reports that Stetson Bennett will go undrafted because he's a boozehound, it might hurt Levis to do that. Of course, Bennett is a marginal talent, so that is a big factor.

Well, pretty much as always, we'll have to take what the Texans give us and either like it or not. For this year, I'm defaulting to "DeMeco knows best" and am going with that. If I don't like who they pick at 1.2, and that's a real strong possibility, I'm just gonna not like it but trust DeMeco knows what he's doing. Which, I think, is about all we can do right now.

DeMeco is starting his head coaching career with an (over all) pathetic cast of players, but with two possibly team changing drafts ahead. We'll just have to wait, like we've always done.

Since the unexpected success of Josh Allen, teams are taking more risks on raw talents at the QB position. Lamar Jackson too for that matter. Allen, Jackson, and Hurts are all guys with a lot of issues that became elite NFL guys.

I'd be absolutely thrilled if Carolina takes Levis.

It would take me about 1.2 seconds to turn in the card with Bryce Young's name on it.

** I wonder if the shoulder issue with Young has anything to do with this Levis smoke **

Carolina likely started out on CJ and then soured on him for multiple reasons.

So, they turn to Bryce and love him and ready to go...and then the medicals show a red flag.

So, now Carolina says crap. Levis started as our #3 guy at QB so he's next man up. Let's call the Texans again and see if we can fleece them, swap picks and take Levis anyway.

Don't rule out a trade up to #1 guys. The next 60 hours are going to be wild. Strap in. This is the most interesting Texans draft I've ever seen.

@CloakNNNdagger has been talking about this potential medical issue for months on here.

Yes sir and that's why I'm wondering. Maybe they got all the medicals back and found a red flag. I'm still on the idea that it's Young at 1.1, but if this crazy scenario with Levis at 1 materializes, the obvious question is why? The size spook them last minute? Or could it be the shoulder. Food for thought.

Why would the Raiders take him when they just signed Jimmy G
Agree.
If they see an ascendant talent sitting at their pick, they will take him instead - thats the benefit of signing Jimmy. I imagine Devon Witherspoon is on their radar.
They can also target a QB next year to groom.

My QB Prediction:

#1 Carolina - Will Levis
#2 Indianapolis via Houston - Bryce Young (Huge trade haul)
#3 Arizona - Jalen Carter
#4 Las Vegas via Houston - CJ Stroud (another huge trade haul)

#7 Houston via Las Vegas - Anthony Richardson
