One year deal.

Are we just gonna do this each off season lol. Reclamation projects central.

I don't mind taking chances on players who have been good, but it's scary that basically everything is a one year deal. Unless the plan is us being cool with extending/bidding next year if the player(s) have bounce back seasons.

BUENO!
It's a new way to build a team. 80-85% new team every year. Each roster is an adventure and when the season ends watch the ones that worked out cash in with deals elsewhere while the ones that didn't don't get re-signed. Gotta admit it has the virtue of having never been tried. ;)

I thought the Perryman deal was dead so I'm pleasantly surprised. Nick is eating now! Gotta hand it to Nick on the signed players. If you don't look at the terms and only look at the players, this team may be having the best FA haul in the NFL...or damn close to it. Certainly, top 5. How to factor in the short-term deals? Not sure, but other teams are doing the same so he's not alone. The other positive takeaway is that good players now want to come here. No way Schultz, Perryman, etc come here in 2020-2022 even if we did have cap space. With Ryans, Draft Picks, and of course...plenty of cap space, it's now a FA destination.

Anyone seen the terms (other than the 1 year)? With the FA signings and better scheme/coaching, one thing is damn near certain. This D won't be trampled over by opposing runners the way it was last year. Add a top pass rusher via draft, and this D is going to be legit. How legit remains to be seen, but I expect big improvement on this D.

If you want the sunshine pumper version of the 1 year deals, it's that these guys will be playing for a new contract, so we should expect to get a very good effort from most of these guys. And if we lose these guys, aren't their compensatory picks?

Nick is just trying to stock up on a crap ton of 6th round picks so he can later waste them by trading up for guys that nobody else would. It's all part of the master plan. Hang tight. Nick is the man with the dastardly plan.

When Vets learn they can come here one year then get big contracts elsewhere, we will have our picks of one year players. Yay

I think it’s clear this off-seasons signings are very different. Ward, Perryman, Rankins, Schultz, and Shaq Mason all played fairly well last year and I don’t think any of those can be classified as reclamation

Personally I think the short term deals are rentals while they develop the players they draft to eventually take over the starting spots. Gotta draft well for the strategy to work though.
Exactly. Our window isn’t open yet and not to mention the **** show has just started to subside here so hard to blame guys not wanting to hitch up for multiples. Yep got to draft well to have them come up and be ready then you go out and get guys on multiples while your window is open, but yea got to draft well for this plan to work.

Why does everyone just assume that a player with a one year deal that pans out will just automatically sign with a different team. Why assume they will hate playing here?
No idea but I don’t. I think most of these guys will like playing under DR. I’d bet DR might have something to do with guys coming here.

BTW, if people are paying attention lots of 1 year deals being handed out. Mecole Hardman to the Jets 1 at 6.5

People are going off our recent history. I doubt right after WWII Jewish families let little Timmy have sleepovers with pro Nazi families..... it probably took a little time.

Point taken. But I hope this go round folks won’t be so jaded as to not even give DR a chance.

I know, I know, you just can't help yourself. :D

However, you're losing ground to Texian in the MNP contest..

They're still building the house. The windows haven't arrived yet. :kitten:

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
I believe many of these players are willing to take a one year chance with the Texans b/c they view the Texans, Caserio, and Ryans as an organization that is finally coming around the corner. Also, each and everyone of these players know their chances of starting and getting plenty of play time are great. These players and their agents know that the Texans will be flush with cap space next season….meaning they should be prepared to bring their “A” game every week if they’d like to cash in with this organization in 2024.

Make no mistake, the Texans are planning to build this team through the draft and will be adding veterans in rolls to either bridge a position or hold the position until a suitable replacement is drafted and able to supplant the veteran though competition. I like this approach and will get behind it.

Hey the only thing better than a pork chop is a pork chop with Bacon on it! Does anyone remember the thread on bacon that I created several years ago? I'm tempted to bring it back for old time sake!

Forgot what this thread is about. I just want a qb at #2. Davis Mills might be the worst Texans qb ever
Mills isn't even close to the worst Texans QB ever. Dud is a 3rd round pick and has been in **** systems for 2 years in a row. I'm not saying he's the guy, but your hyperbole is ridiculous.
Drafting "a QB" at 1.2 this year might change your point of view on "worst Texans QB ever". There isn't a QB in this draft class that doesn't have warts. All of them will do great, going against "air" during their pro days, but watching the film tells the tale. I don't see a single QB in this draft that I would tab as a day 1 starter.

I don't assume it but it's clear what the idea is on both sides in sports contracts that are a year or two.

What about Young's film do you think prevents him from being a day 1 starter?

Probably what the Rockets should've done. They have no vet leadership, the closest they had was Eric Gordon for a year. I'm not counting their 7' mascot.

The main thing with Perryman is his availability.

Otherwise, his play in both run defending and pass coverage average out to be better than Kirksey.

From Catch percentage, yards per target, yards per completion, QB rating, missed tackle percentage, everything, is better than Kirksey.

So let's hope that he can stay healthy.
