Week 8: Big Tits in Houston

On a brighter note, I saw a couple of nice run defenses from Pitre motoring up inside to stop the run. But few and far between, obviously. Still unconvinced he has the size to hang in the tackle box, like he did in college and what made him so effective. The whole front seven consistently gets blasted off the LOS I don't know how Caesario fixes this in one draft. This was a very disheartening game for those who think the Texans can be competitive in one more draft.

I can go either way with O Brien as Texans coach vs other coaches stats show he was the most successful here are some facts no?
Bill O Brien 2014 - 2020
4 AFC South Championships (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019)
4 Playoff Berths

One draft & free agency. You don't have to fill all the holes in one year, but fill enough to slow the other teams down so that we have a chance to win every once in a while. Of course, having two top 5 picks in the next draft won't hurt.

This isn't all BOB's fault. RS and Derrick have just as much to do with where the team is as anything BOB did.

A case can be made that nothing good happened after Rick Smith left the building. :kitten:

The mess called the Houston Texans starts at the top - with ownership. Since Cal has taken over for his Dad this franchise has gone down, down, down. But it is not his fault alone - Janice McNair is the owner and I have no doubt that she controls Tommy Boy (think Art Carlson of WKRP) and limits him. This franchise is a complete clusterfuk, as evidenced by the empty seats in the stadium as well as the product on the field.

At this point i say sell out on d-line and front 7 in the draft with 2 of those early 3 picks. My preference is Jalen Carter…kid needs to be in deep steel blue….if you cant get him, then look up the kid from Baylor in the 2nd.

There are rumors Josh Allen is on the trading block…see if the jags want to make a deal…if you can get him in a trade, thats your young outside pass rusher that you could maybe pair with another young pass rusher from the draft with another 1 of those 3 early picks.

Pay Roquan Smith whatever he wants so you can pair him with Harris.

Then With a presumably a healthy Nico, Metchie coming back as an addition to the WR corps and a young kid you select with 1 of those top 3 picks, you’ve got a young core or WR’s to grow with……..Jimmy G who you bring in via in FA…sit Mills’ ass on the bench as your back up.

Cooks you go ahead and trade and get what you can get….or keep him and let him help the young guys out.

That's the problem with committing to lose and getting into a cycle of losing.

All it takes is not "hitting" on a rebuild to require another.

The concept of "a rebuild" is garbage and is largely predicated on luck.

Then you wake up one day 20 years down the line saying "well ****, we just couldn't break out of the cycle huh."

This is the course we charted and it started the day we hired Bill O'Brien and we'll be paying for that for a while.
We could have it worse. At least we are not Detroit Lions fans. How many seasons of sucking have their fans endured? Even though B'Ob is a big part of the reason we will suck for many seasons to come the Lions fans would love to have traded a few of his seasons with us.

This is what you get when an 87 yr old housewife inherits the team from her husband

ikr but

There is one big difference between Texans vs Lions and their fans
Lions 93 seasons 93 years
NFL championships 1935 1952 1953 1957
Playoff chamipionships 1932 1935 1952 1953 1954 1957 1960 1961 1962 1970 1982 1983 1991 1992 1994 1997 1999 2011 2014 2018
No superbowl one of 4 teams
Texans 2002- 2022 20 years

Fix the DL, in the 1st/2nd.

Add a stud playmaker at DE with the other 1st.

Draft a TE and OC along with a WR in the 3rd after Cooks is traded.. Fill in the LB in FA replacing , I actually kinda like how Harris and Wallow played today. The DL has to be fixed in this draft/FA. It's sad wtching them get mud stomped up the gut. I would say the DT position in the worst position on the team.
And you will be just like Titans without a shot to win nothing

There is no NFL QB, with the possible exception of Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes, that would have succeeded with this OL today. It was an absolute free-for-all and in the 2H, literally jail break up the gut on every second play. Green, McCray and everyone else got their ass handed to them today.
Did you not see Burrough under constant pressure go to the superbowl last year?

8-9 with overpaid players and a qb who is average. No thanks. Watched jimmy g miss wide open wrs.

Depends on if Caserio can hit on a QB in 2024.

After things are built they could even go the Rams/Tampa/New Orleans etc... way and bring in a vet QB to finish off the rebuild. Not that I would want to do this but it also is an option.

For all you cord cutters out there. Did you know that you can watch TNF without a Prime Video subscription and it's legal. NO sign in nor account. Amazon who owns Twitch is allowing the games to be played on Twitch.tv/primevideo for free. Yes I've used it and it does work. I wanted to be ready for this TNF Texans game. js. I played and cast it on laptop to tv and tablet phone other devices.

They would be on their rookie deals for the 2022 class 4 more yrs. If you draft a QB in 2024 you have that class for 5 more yrs. Also you've got guys like Collins for 3 more yrs. So when do these guys become overpaid?

Doesn't matter because he can't even pick a coach

Well, that's the last time I start a ******* game thread.
I was thinking the same thing.
At least we are not Detroit Lions fans.
Maybe not. But there are fans that are saying "At least we are not Houston Texans fans."

Who didn't know a damn thing about football when he bought the team. We need a miracle, like the next Shula, Walsh, or Belichick to somehow land in Houston.

When you start paying guys and the qb is trash right now.

Another week and another trash performance. What makes this entire process depressing is the lack of excitement for the future. Our coaching staff is garbage. We have very few solid pieces. No one is 100% sold on the GM. Ugh

You have a 4-5 yr window after the 2024 draft before you have to start paying guys and you should have plenty of cap room to re-sign them. Really what difference does a yr make? I'm willing to wait a yr for the much better QB class.

Same things were said about Jeff Luhnow and that has worked out pretty well.

Fact is posters are whining because the team lacks talent and is boring. Well this is what a rebuild looks like. What did you expect a rebuild to look like?

lol the alternative is much worse. A brand new shiny rookie qb…& you dont have a clue what you have.

At least with Jimmy G you know what you have…& you can always draft a qb in subsequent drafts afterwards….….just like SF did.

Can't compare baseball that has a minor league system to develop players vs a year to year league like the nfl. Its apples to watermelons.

Hey Thorn maybe I can start and/or assist the TNF game thread this week. It would be a first for me. Something special this week about Houston vs Philadelphia that is Texans/Eagles Astros/Phillies! :scarygirl:

What makes you think he can hit on a qb at all?

amongst the hardest things to do in all of sports..which is yet another reason why drafting a qb in 2023 in the hopes that he’ll rescue this franchise next year is even more foolhardy.

If there’s no significant improvement next year, Lovie’s likely going to get fired & the next HC in 2024 is likely going to want his own guy under center, not the guy Lovie picked and screwed up the year prior.

One of the great offensive minds have tried the Jimmy G project and they continue to give up capital to try to mask his shortcomings. Now the team is in the Titans territory without the coaching or player development. Look, if they analyze the best player regardless of position, draft the player. Nobody can tell me that aside from today, the oline hasn't held up well enough. We've seen the qb miss guys left and right and throwing the ball in the stands. Better qb play automatically equals better team play. Does that mean the team is complete? No, but you can get all the high level tranch guy and skill guys you want and if the qb isn't playing like Mills, you're still not going to win games, especially close games. You know how to keep Henry from running for 200 yds? Put points on the board early. The Titans are a well coached team with limitations at the qb. Even with the #1 nobody thought they were a threat. Right now, Vrabel is a far surperior coach Lovie and the gm is better than Caserio so far, those are just facts.
