HOUSTON TEXANS: SIGN WR COLE BEASLEY
The Texans’ wide receiver corps has some potential with the addition of John Metchie III and the potential advancement of second-year pro Nico Collins, but they still ranked 30th in Ben Linsey’s wide receiver corps rankings. Beasley comes with some baggage, but the NFL no longer has significant COVID-19 restrictions in place, and he certainly still belongs on an NFL roster based on his recent play. He could fill the spot Danny Amendola played in 2021

Feeling sheepish here buddy... @mussop I'm not finding anything to corroborate this & the links in your post don't say what you're saying

If he is released at the 80 man cutdown its highly unlikely he’ll get a PS spot.

He did have a tough drop on Friday. Maybe his hands have been unreliable in practice. I believe Pep expects his FB to be able to catch out of the backfield as well. Anymore Tom Rathman's coming out of college?

Janovich is a 6 year vet. I don't remember all the rules related to the PS, but pretty sure it cuts off well before a guy going into his 7th season. It was a mild surprise to see him cut. Maybe they like Hairston or (more likely) P Quessenberry better. Who knows.

Congrats to UDFAs Kurt Hinish DT and Jake Hansen LB for making the active roster!

In hindsight, not a surprise Lovie found a spot for his captain at Illinois on the active roster. He should be a special teams demon!

EDIT: Also congrats to UDFA Troy Hairston! Made a position switch and still won a spot on the active roster as FB.

Relieved they kept Ogunbowale. That was the right decision.

Hinish was a no-brainer.

Good to see we got something for Blacklock. We now see how Caserio really values extra picks for moving around the draft order and getting the players Lovie specifically wants. It's proving successful so far.

Yep and NC has made it clear in the past that this is what he likes to do with late round picks. Really I think most NFL GM’s do the same. Tells me the Vikings want to take a look at Blacklock but they aren’t convinced And wanted something tangible at the end of the trade. Dude just didn’t have the right motivation and attitude. Easy Lovie whack. I’m going to predict that the sixth will come back somehow for a Mack replacement.

I believe the same could be said for OL, Alex Leatherwood (Bama). Simply a RD1 bust b/c he lacked work ethic. All the athletic ability as a young athlete, but was probably pampered at every stop and just couldn't wrap his brain or required effort around what it took to compete in the NFL. Just hope he's not in debt.

Ya I can't believe Leatherwood was cut after one year. If a team gives up on a first rounder after one season, you know it's bad. He'll likely clear waivers. I'd take him on as a project for the right price. I'd try him at RG to see if he could develop. He's got some physical tools. It's not out of the question he wakes up, gets in the right scheme fit and with the right coach and lands on his feet and becomes a functional or even good starter. Not counting on it - but worth a tire kick at the right price.

The only people seeming to think Leatherwood was round 1 material were Maycock and Gruden.

Leatherwood began his rookie season at right tackle, but didn't last too long. He played a total of 257 snaps in his first month in the NFL and was remarkably bad, earning offensive game grades in the 30s in three of his first four games, per Pro Football Focus.

Leatherwood, who started all 18 games (including postseason) last year, struggled at right tackle so much that he was eventually moved to guard, with Brandon Parker flanking him at tackle. The rookie improved slightly from there, even finding notable success in a 17-13 win over Denver in Week 16.

The regime that selected Leatherwood didn't last beyond the 2021 season, and the Alabama product began Year 2 back at tackle under coach Josh McDaniels. Position fit didn't matter to McDaniels as much as the basics of playing offensive line in the NFL, with McDaniels telling the Las Vegas Review-Journal "what we're going to focus on is fundamentals, technique."

We didn't need the Rosetta Stone to translate what McDaniels was saying. After a second professional preseason, evidently, Leatherwood didn't improve his technique enough to keep his job. Perhaps even more significant is the Raiders lost Parker to a season-ending triceps injury, and still waived Leatherwood.

Leatherwood wasn't the only swing and miss from the Gruden-Mayock era, but he was among the most notable because of draft position. The new power duo of McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler proved later Tuesday they weren't stopping at Leatherwood, either, as they traded Mullen to Arizona.

It's kind of funny to watch the hoops teams have to jump through to get & stash players on IR.

Cut these players:
Chris Conley
Royce Freeman
Isaac Yiadom

To get these players on IR:
Christian Harris
Teagan Quitoriano
Tavierre Thomas

So they resign these players:
Chris Conley
Royce Freeman
Isaac Yiadom

We need a decent all around TE desparately. But O.J. Howard has had so many low ankle sprains, high ankle sprains, foot sprains, hamstrings, as well as a ruptured Achilles (Oct. 2020), I am skeptical about his ability to stay on the field. His PFF last year (49) is consistent with post Achilles performance. The second year following Achilles rupture is when a player can show a return to more decent performance............if they ever can. I hope his contract is very
Texans favorable.

I'm glad all 3 are back in the fold.

Well color me happy....I hadn't heard the news. I've wanted OJ Howard in a Texans uniform since he left Bama. So we're getting him at the age of 27 and although the injuries have been a bummer they've certainly help keep the wear-n-tear off his body. All I hope for.....he finds his NFL health and success with the Texans.
