Who you got @ #3, #13, & #37?

Taking two defensive players and ignoring the OL. What makes you think this is the picture coming into focus?
Texans D was turrible last season so I doubt think they will take OL with the first two. Decent OL can be found in round 2 and 3 while the DL talent drops off sooner.
They can get two good OL with their next two picks if they want.

They picked up a DE in free agency which will be an upgrade when paired with Greenard. Their primary priority defensively is at CB. Offensively, they haven't signed anyone to really upgrade the IOL, although they did sign a jag at OG. What about skill players, RB and WR?

IMO, the draft should go, CB, IOL, WR, IOL, RB. S.

Safety is a deep position in the draft and there is a group of maybe 4 that are graded for the 4th round.

What if he drafts two guards in the 2nd? Is that still ignoring the OL?
They will probably have 6 draft picks in the first 3 rounds. (That’s if they trade back somewhere). I’m thinking 2 first, 2 seconds and 2 thirds. Therefore, they will be able to address those positions of needs. With those picks I believe it’s a strong chance all of them could be day one starters.

I'm beginning to think there may not be a trade down, especially with #3. I'm thinking teams will be willing to sit tight and let the draft come to them. If Hutchinson were to fall to 3, there might be some interest, or if some team was to just fall for Travon Walker. But I'm seeing the Giants or the Jets being the target for trade ups.

#13? I wouldn't want to trade down more than five or six spots. This would depend on what happens one to twelve and who drops. Perhaps Jordan Davis might be a target for a trade, if there.

It could happen. But just thinking its becoming more unlikely.

I disagreed, then, to make amends for the sudden fall in my rating of your evaluation skills, I decided to offer this image to celebrate your "turrible" choice !

What if DET comes back up to 13 and grabs Corrall and HOU gets 32 and 34?
HOU would have 3-32-34-37

What if KC wanted the #3 pick and sent their 29, 30, 50, 121, and 2023 RD1?

I believe if both deals were agreed to, the Texans would now have 11 (29, 30, 32, 34, 37, 50, 68, 80, 107, 108, and 121) of the top 121 picks.

My reason for trading back from 13 would be to target Green while getting extra picks. But Green is likely to go in the 20's so you would have to trade back up, leapfrogging these other teams who may have an eye on Green. To do this would cost the Texans not only the newly acquired 32 but also #80. So your net gain would be swapping 80 for 34. Not bad.

If you could find a team to trade back up with.

If you can't make a trade back up, and both Green and Zion Johnson are off the board, the Texans would have to be satisfied with a plan B.

These what if's get complicated.

If Detroit is so desperate to trade up from 32 to get a qb, I'd squeeze them hard. I'd want #66 as well.

What's the value of 32 & 34?

Seems a little light to me. You're 3 picks outside the top 10 & you're basically trading out of the 1st round.

I understand 32 is a 1st round pick. & 34 is practically a 1st round pick, but I think I'd need some sweetener

I am interested in why you would go safety over a cornerback?
I think Hamilton could be an Ed Reed type of safety. If so, that removes a lot of pressure from the corner position because he can help cover multiple receivers. If Sauce is a true lock-down corner, he can take one receiver out of the play, leaving the rest of the poorly performing secondary to be picked apart.

I've been consistently on board with drafting the best OT we can get, but lately I've started seeing the benefit of taking defensive players that cure our greatest weaknesses first. Besides, it's a fairly deep draft for offensive linemen & our starting offensive line started jelling in the last few games last year.

#3) "Sauce" Gardner (CB) - Corner Backs can have long careers & shut down corners are very rare.

#13) Jordan Davis (DT) - Davis is more of a NT in a 3-4 defense, but imagine what a guy with that size & strength could do in a 4-3 where he doesn't always command a double team. Paired next to Collins, Davis could destroy pockets & shut down the inside run game. I look at what Buffalo has done with four 1st round picks on their defensive line as an example of what could be in Lovie's defense.

#37) Kenyon Green (OG) - Green is a plug & play player (imo) from day one. His pass protection needs help, but if the Texans are going towards a more run heavy offense, he'll have time to work on his pass protection. Some believe he'll go in the 1st round, but you'd be hard pressed to show me who would be pushed back in place of him.

I know this thread was only for the first three picks, but I want to throw one more in there.

#108) Marcus Jones (CB/WR/KR/PR) - He's undersized at 5'8" for a CB, but he has instant speed off the line & has played some WR with intriguing results. His special team's abilities are electric (per Lance Zierlein) & he's compared to Dante Hall (also per Zierlein). He'd give us a WR with break away speed, a scrappy CB & a return specialist that could take it to the house in a hiccup.

Does anybody think Marcus Jones could play slot WR?

I dunno. I am going offense with the 1st 4 picks. I want to see if Mills is the guy. If the offense can keep the defense off the field then the D will improve. If Mills is the guy then you have picks next year to get defense. If he isn't then you use the highest first next year on a QB. That way the rest of the offense is in place and have been playing for a year already. The rookie QB comes in with guys who have some experience.

Best OT
Williamson/Wilson/London
Hall/Walker
Salyer

Then defense

And Texans might be one of the callers.
With his comparatively short wingspan/arms, and very unimpressive sprint times Hutchison would appear to have less innate
physical skills/traits than his competitors like Thibideux, Johnson (FSU), & Travon Walker while his oddly greatest appeal may be that he's the "safest" pick of the group because usually a prospect has to have more compelling reasons to go #1 overall.

If arm length is key to success for a Dlineman, then Travon Walker is likely to succeed - he has 35.5" arms - Watt has 34".
JJ has massive hands though at 11 1/8".

We are thinking along the same lines

1-3 Neal
1-13 Jameson Williams
2-37 Hall
3-68 Salyer
3-80 Ruckert.

I really want Jelani Woods and would pick him at 2-37 and one of Cook/Spiller/Strong/White at 3-80

That's speed added to the offense and the run game should really improve with the OL additions

WR Cooks
TE Woods/Pharoh/Auclair
LT Tunsil
LG Salyer
C Britt
RG Cann
RT Neal
WR Collins
WR Williams
QB Mills
RB Mack/Cook/White/Burkhead
FB Janovich

That's a much improved offense. Forget about how good Howard/Heck can be and upgrade. They will make great depth pieces.

Draft a guy like DeAngelo Malone if you need to use a 4th/6th to trade up and get him and atleast you will have upgraded the Edge position.

That’s a viable trade offer according to drafttek trade value chart 32/34 is equal to 13 in points.

However, my favorite trade partner is GB offering 22/53 for 13. Equal value on the chart and don’t move out too far to miss out on one of the prospects that we would like to have at 13 who will inevitably fall on draft night. GB gets their pick of the WR litter and Texans still get a stud at a position of need.

Picks would be 3, 22, 37, 53, 68, 80 for first two days of draft.

A trade UP partner would again be GB. Offering picks 37 and 68 to move up to 22 to get our target. Equal value on the chart. Of course on draft night trades wont be perfectly equal but its a good guide of what to expect moving up or down and that 22 range is the sweet spot i’d like for Texans to either move down for an extra 2nd or move up to get a player they covet.

I'm in on Jelani Woods, but every ranking I see , except SI, has him ranked in the 4th round or lower. I'm not using 2-37 on him

RE: Woods

I see Mcbride as the top TE in class and a top 50 pick. After him its a cluster with Dulcich, Woods, Kolar, Ruckert and Otton ranked however you prefer. And I see them all coming off the board 3rd/4th round. Picks 107/108 are the sweet spot to grab one this year but could see Texans taking one earlier or packaging picks to move up and get the one they covet above the other similarly rated prospects.

If the Texans acquire an extra 2nd via trade down or trading back into 2nd then Mcbride is my guy for that pick. Long term safety net for Mills, highly athletic, used to being a high volume target and a dog in run blocking. He’d be an upgraded Coby Fleener for Pep to scheme due to his run blocking ability.

Mcbride is smaller in size/length than Woods but much larger where it counts (hands Mcbride 10 1/8” vs 9 1/4” Woods) and it shows as a pass catcher.

Walker is truly an impressive physical specimen with a spectacular list of combine accomplishments: prodigious athletic abilities for such a big man with his elite measurements. Some folks actually have him going #1, but I think we'd have to put him down as a dark-horse candidate to be taken first.
The thing is I dunno maybe I missed it because I don't see a line of folks banging the table for Hutch to go #1 overall ?

I saw Woods sneak into the 2nd round (2.63) in Chad Reuter's latest 4 round mock. Reuter knows people, so that's a pretty good indication Woods is the #2 TE, now.

I think WRs are being pushed up and TEs pushed down. Supply and demand. Some teams go strictly 4 WRs in passing situations, making the TE a 2 down player. TEs might not be coming off the board until late 2nd, early 3rd.

The Texans still need a Y TE. I think Nick, Lovie, and Pep are all in agreement on that. I think they'll probably wait until one comes off the board before making a move, though. There should be someone they like with the 3rd and even 4th round picks.

I agree with this. I really like McBride. I'd like him with an extra 2nd, bit this draft sucks for trading down since there are no great QBs at least at 3. Now I'd trade 13 and see if an extra 2nd could be picked up or even depending how low you go either GB or KCs two lower 1sts. That would put us out of rhe running for Williamson, but give me Neal, best WR left, Hall, and McBride and I will be happy.

13 would get GB one of the top WRs in the draft. I'd be fine with a WR like Watson, Pierce, or Moore.

I was reading about Hall the other day and there is some metric being used, I can't remember which one, but Hall is far and away the best RB. It isn't even close. Jonathan Taylor had the highest ever, since this started being used, and Hall is 2nd.

What's weird about this year's draft (maybe because the team is so bad), I can't say I'd be disappointed with any pick in the first two rounds unless it's an extreme reach.

Does anybody think Marcus Jones could play slot WR?
Yes. In a similar way as the Chiefs used Tyreek Hill initially. On reverses, jet sweeps, and bubble screens. Jones has that kind of explosiveness to spread a defense horizontally. I'm concerned about his size on defense, as he will be hunted on pick plays that will force him to cover taller WRs. In the long run, he might become a slot WR.

How much money goes to draft picks?

So in the 'for what it's worth' category of ongoing draft junk..
So, let's just say it's Walker and the Hutchinson (1st and 2nd overall). What comes next?

"If that's how it goes down, Nick (Texans GM Nick Caserio) will take Neal (Alabama tackle Evan Neal) with that third pick," said one executive who knows the Texans GM well. "I don't even think that's much of a debate for him. It would be Neal at 3."

2022 NFL Draft insider notes: The surprising No. 1 pick some GMs expect, why two QBs will go top 10 and more

We trade both our 1st round picks for fifteen 6th round picks and use those 6th round picks to move back up in the draft.
Heh. Ya gotta spend them picks at some point eh?
Might as well grab some talent and be done with it.

You thinking if Hamilton signed no corner drafted later? I would go sauce at 3 and a safety at 37 like Hill or Brisker rather than Hamilton and a round two corner.

Appreciate your response.

This smells of a “writer” who wants his favorite team to get the players he wants so he concocts this turd to make it happen.

Jason La Canfora wrote it and presumably was in touch with whatever his sources are. He provided the quote.

So whatever team you think he was elaborately trying to 'help', sure.

How is he “elaborately” “helping” a team with a mock draft?
He’s doing what all these hacks do, drive views and be biased.
