Under the radar late round gems

Texansphan

Football connoisseur
This is one of the most important drafts in years for Texans specifically because we are in a serious rebuild.
Pinpointing the sleepers in the lower rounds is a task every team should be hyper focused on and none moreso than our Texans.
With that in mind, let's see you guys and gals post up your sleepers!
If you would, please post a brief (or long!) explanation why you like him.
Late rounds can be 5, 6 and 7. You can include those projected outside draft boards that likely get drafted.
Have at it!

Wildcat anyone. Let Pep use his imagination.

Possible fa pickup. I'd spend a late round pick. Maybe one of our "treasured" six rounders. :D

Get er done Nick.

I’m intrigued by Dareke Young WR out of Lenoir-Rhyne. He has a massive wingspan and is a good hands catcher with some speed. He could make it on the field as a special teamer and then work his way into the lineup.

Someone with those measurables… makes me wonder how they go to such a small school. Reminds me of Vyncint Smith another big WR that was super athletic.

Do these guys just have a massive growth spurt their sophomore year of college?!

Not sure. I’ve read that some prospects do have their growth spurts in college, but I had to find an interview of him to know his story.

I like a couple of guys out of Rutgers, RB Isiah Pacheco and WR Bo Melton.

Why are they late rounders/UDFAs? They went to Rutgers, weren't 5 star players out of HS, and never put up eye popping numbers.

Why do they have late round value? Shown to have NFL athleticism, have played against top competition, and have played special teams.

These guys aren't show ponies that will balk when they're asked to do the dirty work. They have had a chip on their shoulder since forever. Had they played with players found at Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia, their names might be known. It's hard to put up big numbers behind a line that can't open up holes or a QB that can't hit the broad side of a barn.

These guys played 4 years (in Melton's case 5), never transferred, and did whatever was asked of them. They have the physical ability and attitude to you're looking for when filling out the back end of a roster.

This thread is worth reviving close to the draft.
I know this thread is dedicated to late round sleepers, but there is one lurking in the top 50 or thereabouts and he is well worth your full attention if you haven't checked him out yet.
Reads extremely well - and it wouldn't surprise me if he snuck into the first round.
This piece also offers some insight into defensive front alignments.

Agree with Lucky commenting on Bo Melton. I really like that kid's game as well.

Another is Zyon McCollum, CB, Sam Houston St. What's to like about him ??
6'3, 4.3 speed (can't teach it), and ball skills (13 INT's and 54 pass breakups in 56 games).
Just needs to develop against higher level competition. Looked at as a 5th round guy.
