I believe Reid was on NFL Radio a week ago applauding Lovie's hiring and saying he wasn't opposed to re-signing. Had Culley stayed, I'm sure it would be a different tune.

As you said, Reid's price will likely be too high for the Texans to handle. Should have locked up Reid last offseason, when Caserio was too busy signing every special teamer and backup LB on the market.

Losing Reid wont hurt my feelings at all. He's overrated around these parts and soon to be overpaid. Out with the old and in with the new.

Personally, I'm glad Caserio took this approach in FA. It lead to guys like Thomas/KGH/Smith etc... who I would rather have on the team than an overrated barely caring Reid.

I usually don't have much response to draft picks because I have not heard of most of them. I don't watch college ball so I have no background details.

That said, my new strategy this year is to say something good about every draft pick in one thread and then be skeptical about those same picks in other threads. That way I can cove my bases and always point to the correct answer in 20/20 hindsight.

I don't watch much college ball either. All I knew about last year's picks were that one guy had 11 career college starts and the other didn't take a single snap in 2020.The latter they gave up 2 picks to move up to get, including 1 this year.

I'll judge the draft, right after, by the execution of it, and not so much the players themselves. For example, the 2 picks they gave up last year to move up to get Collins. Was that worth moving up 20 spots to take a WR at the end of the 3rd who hadn't taken an organized snap since 2019? Or how about the 3 picks they gave up to move up twice to get a 5th rounder?

I will do homework on the players after they've been selected, but I still won't put much into the players themselves until they've taken some NFL snaps. I'll revisit that after the season. So the draft immediatley after for me is about execution, position need, value, things of that nature.

A full arsenal this year, so none of the "he did the best with what he had" excuses.

Same. I generally start looking at the more popular guys & do a little film study (YouTube)...

But I'm more interested in positions.

More than anything I don't want the gambling like they did with Howard & Scharping

Well, I say that & both have played better than LJ & Kahle who were both solid picks.

Or these are just excuses for over drafted players that are busty.

It's the price you pay sometimes for gambling on small school guys. Rule of thumb is don't pick small school guys unless they test off the charts athletically.

It should be about getting 3-4 contributing players every year. Including 1 star level player and a couple of starter level solid long time starters.

What's with the last sentence? Doing the best you can without 1-2nd Rd picks isn't an excuse. It's a fact

I'm not saying either should/shouldn't. Just that Caserio alluded that both will be Texans in 2022. Done deal

You'd hope. But with only 14 contracts now, hard to say what kind of cap space we'll have in 2023.

Unless he does another 30 one year deals for 2022.

Or those guys could just be another Davenport.

In fact after 2 OL coaches, it's more likely they're more Davenport like than they become solid starters. I sure hope Caserio doesn't make a mistake and pickup Howard's 5th yr option.

Thibs was correct with his self label of Clowney 2.........................He's notorious for intermittent effort............taking plays off...............something that doesn't work well when moving up to the NFL.

Yeah, but isn't that a bit overdone ? I mean .... it's like a woman sees a mouse in her kitchen .... she sheiks, grabs a broom .... then jumps up on a chair, as she flings the broom toward the creature. It lands just right and traps the monster in the corner. She hits speed dial on her phone, keeping a sharp eye on the deadly threat. She hears the phone ring next door, and a friendly voice answers. "What's up?" he says. She says - "come quickly, I've trapped a deadly rodent in the corner" ! Without a reply, he drops the phone, and opens her door .... almost simultaneously ! He stands there in a tee shirt and shorts with a 12 gauge .... "I got this" he says softly, but with confidence.
