Head Coach Candidate (Lovie Smith Hired) 2/7/22

Do you automatically get 2 3rd comp picks for hiring a minority HC?
Nope. That goes to an organization that employed the coach as an assistant. Would not go into effect if Flores were to be hired.

If this is Casserio's vision, we're going to have very limited choices with HCs going forward if he just wants someone to stand there and do as they're told. I can't see a HC getting the respect of the locker room under these conditions. We'd better be ready for a steady flow of Culleys and McCowns in the future, no one else need apply. We'll never get a top tiered HC like this. I wonder if Cal knew what he was getting into when he hired Casserio? You think he told Cal that this is how he wanted to run this team?
I think Nick has sold his bosses on McCown maturing with the youth of the coming roster. He Nick may be betting on youth of HC being more valuable than experience.

Flores is asking for power edging similar to what O'Brien held. That in itself is likely to knock him out of the running. In addition, his temper tantrums have been epic, especially with the media................tantrums that would pale O'Brien's.
That's what worries me, his demeanor.
Too many stories that came out of Miami about his blow-up, how he spoke down to his players, stopped speaking to his assistants, never heard any of his players stand up for him when he got fired.
Gannon " hit it outta the park" but he's eliminated.

And we know that with Mccown the FO will put the staff together for him. Which is how Caserio wants his team to run.

Cal likes giving total control to people who have not earned it so i’m sure he’ll let it happen!
But Caserio is opposed to hiring Josh. He wanted either Flores or Gannon.

Don’t care about the name

Don’t care about the amount of coaching experience

dont care about the race

don’t care about appearance around the league or how something looks

only care about results and what happens on the field….
Mr tex 2024! :texflag:

I just dont understand the race angle, the last HC was African-American, the longest tenured GM in Texans history was also. Are you saying you want somebody hired based on race?
Race shouldn’t matter, but it does to them. The only way the NFL can prove they’re not racist, in a certain group of people’s eyes, is if 100% of the players and coaches are of the same color as them. And that still wouldn’t be the end of it. Next they’ll want all GMs and agents to only be of the same color as them. Then, they’ll only play for franchises whose owners are of the same color as them.
The only way this madness will ever end is if people finally get fed up with theit bullsh*t And stop watching. Then, they’ll have to go out in the real work and get a real f****** job where “racist owners” won’t be paying them millions of dollars to have fun, and instead an actual mid to upper class salary to actually do work, like all normal people.

and then there were two ... Texans and Saints

edit:

Once the deal is confirmed, McDaniel, 38, will be the first minority hire at head coach in the 2022 cycle. McDaniel is biracial; his father is Black.

McDaniel has worked alongside 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan for much of his career. He was a Texans offensive assistant from 2006-2008.

I'd rather have McCown's unspawned nut juice be our next head coach than anything involving Flores.

We get enough race-obsessed bullshit in our daily lives. If my team, which is intended to be a distraction and entertainment, is further mired in racial bullshit, which is 100x WORSE when you add it to it that Flores already being the next iteration of that power hungry piece of **** Bill O'Brien, who caused this franchise to crash and burn in the first place and wasted the careers of multiple faces of the franchise and wasted years of all our lives.....well, that's just not acceptable.

Enough Patriots bullshit. Enough cancer. Enough drama. Enough distraction bullshit. Enough. Enough. Enough. ******* enough.

Reports are that Caserio was really impressed with McCown 2021 interview. I think Casserio probably would have preferred more experience, but if media conjecture is right and Caserio wants a top down hierarchy, then McCown makes sense. Caserio is going to have to nail it with the OC position, which will likely be offered to Hamilton.
What reports?

They're going to hire who they want to hire. Best we can hope for as fans is they get lucky and McCown becomes a great HC. Like I said before I'm going to give him a couple of yrs before I start to pass judgement. One positive is he should be great working with Mills.

Negative is the more things change down on Kirby the more they remain the same. Great job Calhoun. (Sarcasm....)
I wish I had whatever you've got over there.

I mean I'm not going anywhere, but I can't get behind this until I see positive results.

If you're expecting two years of bad, I don't think I can make it. I'd expect Lovie & Pep to be leaving soon.

Regardless of who the HC is, it's going to take a couple of yrs to add enough talent to start winning again.

Imo. That means it's time to open up the interviews again. Plenty of people still out there that are qualified that we haven't talked to.

Bowles in particular, Dennis Allen, Steve Spagnola, Dan Quinn.

Hard for me to believe McCown is the best you could do when you only talked to two qualified candidates

Reporting of the Jan 2021 interview. It's out there. I'm not going to try to backtrack my googling over the past couple weeks. I posted a tweet by Aaron Wilson at post 2333. No link but I gave the date and time. Don't remember if this is the source or some other account.

That’s my issue. The list of candidates interviewed is way below that of other teams. Not just in the number of candidates but the number of established coordinators or previous HC candidates.

Teams are bringing in Jim Harbaugh and Doug Pederson for interviews while we are bringing in Hines Ward and Josh Mccown then calling it a day!

I expect no DeMeco. But no interview for Jerod Mayo? Aaron Glenn? Mike Mcdaniel? And the list goes on…

Great point.

Their is a difference between two years with a good coach & two years with an inexperienced coach.

With a good coach you can expect positive results in years three & four. Maybe you can expect the same from an inexperienced coach but it's less likely.

Remember this time last year we were talking about "two years"

With a guy like McCown it's more likely we're talking about two years going into the 2024 draft.

Don’t know who some random twitter handles “sources” are… but if Mccown and Pep can be on the same offensive staff then i’ll be halfway decent with this…

Don’t think Lovie and Flores would mesh however.
In my understanding about the only one that I believe stands a chance of meshing with Flores is a mirror... but even that is probably a stretch

I wouldn't count McCown out atleast until I see how he does and I'm going to give him a couple of yrs. Why? He's from a football family.

I believe being from a Texas football family and 20 yrs of NFL experience gives him advantages other 1st time HC's dont have.

Does this mean I like the hire? Nope

Maybe he will be the most amazing awesome HC to ever and IF they choose him I'd give him a chance cause what choice do I have.

But given the current brain trust...I wouldn't be holding my breath they make a wise decision any time soon.

The roster should be stocked with young top tier talent by the start of the 2024 and win games. But it will take another yr or so for this talent to gain experience, regardless of who the HC is.

Maybe he can bring in OB as his OC and we can see a repeat of the Buddy Ryan/Kevin Gilbride incident.
TBH IF they do hire Flores to continue this circus.

I'm all for bringing back OB

At least then I would feel 1000% justified in the "F them" whike referring to the Texans.

If they don't take themselves seriously... why should I.

With a good coach going in the right direction two years can be productive despite the number of wins.

With the wrong guy, you've got a team of guys collecting a paycheck waiting to get paid by a dumb franchise desperate for good players or waiting for for free agency.

It will be 2006 all over again & you'll be purging those players you drafted in the previous two years.
