If Watson leaves, why keep Kelly?

Hopefully this finally happens, If trading DW4 makes them change the way they do business then it will have been well worth the headache.

I've been sayin what you posted since 2010.
I think at it’s core you are saying different things. Your suggestions make sense & will lead to a better football team.

Everyone who is mad now are talking about changes like who Easterby can & can’t call to express concerns about a player’s social activities. Waste of freaking time.

Easterby calls my mom, I’m going to find him in the parking garage.

Before moms tells me hands off that is.

Every time I read comments regarding Watson signing a contract and now complaining or whining, I wonder did time stand still after he signed the contract? Could it simply be Watson AND his teammates thought they had an opportunity to reset the organization. Bring in fresh blood, new eyes and once Easterby's BFF was hired, it was a signal that Cal didn't have a problem with the way things were and it would be more of the same?

Hell, when Watson signed the contract, was Rootes thinking about leaving the organization? What changed for Rootes? How did Palcic changed? I just don't get the using the signing of the contract as a benchmark when internal conditions around the team "appears" to have changed.
How much really changed in FOUR freakin' months??

And if that much has changed, then be a man and say it instead of hiding behind cryptic tweets and an agent.

I love the player, but he's acting like a punk now.

If he wants out that bad, then waive the no trade clause.

But I'm starting to wonder if it's even about this organization or if it's a convenient excuse to extend his brand with a bigger market. His agent and GF are whispering sweet nothings to his growing EGO now.

Yes, we're talking about 2 different things. I'm talking about fundamental change. The other type of change is only superficial change and will lead to nothing.

Most of the people encouraging him have no skin in the game. Hopkins, Jackson, AJ they don't play for the Texans and whether Watson stays or goes doesn't affect them. I also don't get this "they have destroyed the team" the only "destroy the team" moves were trading Hopkins for peanuts and handing contracts to a couple of guys that didn't deserve them. Those were done in one season by one person and that person was fired soon after. Other than that the Texans haven't made any worst or better moves than most other teams.
There are reports that CURRENT players are telling him to stand his ground. Whether you believe those reports or not, are up to you.

I say Cal screwed up this team by mysteriously firing Brian Gaine, which we still have no clear reason why. Screwing up the hiring of Caserio (the first time), and giving GM powers to BOB. And finally, the promoting of Jack Easterby. The trading of Nuk, the trade for Tunsil, and the odd overpays of Nick Martin, Whit, Murray, Cobb, Cunningham is why we're both lacking in cap & draft capital. I agree that "destroying the team" is an exaggeration. It's hard to pinpoint all the blame on BOB, and everything should be good now, because he should have never been put in that situation in the first place.

After just going through this 4-12 season in the past 4 months, are you happy w/ the direction of this team? Do you feel confident Cal is making the right moves to get us back in the right direction?

Gaine was fired for HR reasons, honestly Texans have to be very careful on how much information about those kind of things do leak out. I will agree that they screwed up the hiring of Caserio the first time though maybe not for the same reasons you do. I think they should have called the Pats bluff and forced it to go before the league. There was nothing but circumstantial evidence and even if so league rules said that you couldn't stop a person from taking a promotion. All the rest you mentioned OB was the GM, Cal may have allowed but for him to stop it would mean that he would meddle as the owner and not let the GM do his job, something we want him to stop doing now. So its a damned if you do and damned if you don't, we want him to step in on the things we disagree with but stay out of it the rest of the time. So how is he to know what is and is not a bad decision?

They have replaced almost the entire coaching staff and hired a new GM. So let me ask you what moves are they suppose to make that would make you happy? Get Watson back on the team? He's not taking their calls and reports say that no matter the HC hire or anything they did would make that happen. Fire Easterby? Ok lets say they do that would it really make any difference? AJ, Hopkins and these others are attacking the Texans as much as anybody. Sell the team? If I was Cal and the McNair's I'd tell anyone that tells me to do that to F off. They didn't drop 700 million and fight with the league to bring a team back to Houston.

So what moves can they make to go in the right direction in your book?

You should have seen him with Deone & Vick pro bowl weekend. Really sickening
I haven't seen it but I'll check it out.

I like Deshaun, both as a player and he seems like a genuinely nice dude (from just a lowly fan's view).

My punk comment was specifically about this contract/trade demand situation with what we know (and obviously don't know) right now. My perspective might change if he - or his proxies - were to shed some light on it. Maybe Cal kicked his dog or something.

Which current players? I haven't seen any of these reports.

Anyways, these current players are more than likely to be former players after the badly needed purge happens. That's why I dont really care what the current players think.

A full housecleaning needed to happen, however with Easterby/Kelly still around it didn't happen. Very Texan like.

How about you bought your wife a new ring, and four months later she finds some dude with a nicer car and bigger house and wants a divorce.

You cool with that?

So is Deshaun or the Texans the wife in our little scenarios?

We don't know enough to make these judgment calls. I'm not going to listen to the rampant speculation and rumors from a TMZ media. They are just babbling at this point.

All I know for certain is the fact that he just signed a $111 million guaranteed contract ($160+ million total), and four months later he wants out just because. . . idonno:

So what if Tunsil now wants out? What if any given player decides they don't want to play for the Texans? It is an exception for Deshaun because (??) or is there true grievance that this franchise has crossed lines beyond not letting players pick a GM?

Absolutely I’m ok w her leaving; she’s not my property. That’s your disconnect. They’re free to leave; not free of consequence.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more players leaving this sinking ship. Talent comes to die on Kirby. Why do you think that is?

I agree I could be completely wrong, and all of these hires work out just great... which I honestly do hopes happen. The process and the hires just seem odd, don't you think?
  • They hire Korn Ferry to help with the GM hire, and Caserio wasn't even on their list?
  • There's the rumor Omar Khan was going to be hired, but last minute Easterby convinces Cal to hire Caserio?
  • You don't find Culley a surprise at all? A 65yo first time coach. A guy that has never been an HC or even coordinator at any level. A guy that was never interviewed to be an HC by any other team?
    • I would understand if he was some young "hot-shot" on the rise. But he's 65 that's been in the league for a while!
  • Then they hire Lovie to be DC and retain Kelly to be OC? So Culley, Lovie, and Kelly... three guys that have NEVER worked together.

Its just as likely Cal said to them "caserio is the guy I'm thinking of, go find candidates and change my mind if you can." Who was on that list was Riddick, a guy who hasn't been in an NFL front office in 10 years, and whatshisface that was already in the Texans and was no way qualified. In fact the only guy on the list was Khan and you really can't say he was more qualified than Caserio just different skill sets. Besides lets not forget it was on Korn Ferry recommendation that OB was hired. Maybe Cal used it as a list on who not to hire.

This is total BS, not directed at you dream but whoever started this rumor. There was no way they were going to offer a contract to anybody that wasn't their guy. I've said it before but if they had offered a contract then yanked it there are possible legal actions that can be taken against the Texans by Khan for dealing in bad faith. As far as Easterby convincing Cal at the last minute did Easterby travel back in time and convince Bob McNair to? Because Caserio was first picked by Bob and they have been chasing him ever since.
This I agree with I did find Culley a surprise but to be fair to the Texans they had him listed as a finalist just everyone assumed it was a long shot so they never talked about him. Culley was around long before the Rooney rule so that could have played a hand in why he never got an interview and since he was hired coaches, including Harbaugh and Reid, as well as players have had nothing but praise for the guy and saying it was long overdue. Now of course they aren't going to bad mouth him but they don't have to go out of their way to praise him either. As far as never being a coordinator neither had Reid or either Harbaugh brother when they got their first gig as HC. Granted they were a lot younger but it is what it is.
Again I agree with you but Lovie seems to be the guy Culley targeted so if he thinks it could work then who am I to argue. As far as Kelly goes that was strictly to try and keep Watson happy and yes I disagree with it but again it is what it is.

Look I get it we have all been burned by the Texans before but for all intents and purposes Texans really did clean house this time around. People can argue that "Easterby is still pulling the strings" but they really don't know and I highly doubt Caserio packed up and came all the way here just to be a puppet king. You can say he did it for the money but he had a cushy job in NE and was in line to be the GM there, when someone finally pulls the reins from Belichick's cold, dead fingers, so its not like this was his only shot. I'm willing to give the new GM, new HC and, almost, new coaching staff the benefit of the doubt and I wish Watson was to but if not then Texans are bigger than any one player and I won't let his thoughts and feelings change my mind.

As for the Pro Bowl clip that TK posted...from an early age we all change our behavior from time to time to match what we perceive to be the norm. I behave differently from my family at home to my friends at the bar (if I was still into that, which I am not). That's what I saw in Watson's interaction with Sanders and the other people in that clip. Most NFL pre-game stuff and specials is so cheesy anyway, it's all nauseating to me.

I think this all gets worked out. I still believe Watson will be starting for the Texans in 2021 and beyond.

The Omar Khan rumor has been reported both by Adam Schefter and Mike Florio. Not saying it must be 100% true, but those are respected guys w/ sources.

Obviously you have more faith in Cal than I do. I honestly think he wants to see the Texans succeed, but desire isn't everything. When he continues to make odd move after odd move, after a 4-12 season, it's not hard to believe people have no faith Cal is doing the right thing.

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
Funny how they gave up all they did to bring him here, paid him what they did, and the reason they did all of that may be out the door. Can’t make this **** up.
Cal committed to O’Brien as HC/GM right at the point it became clear he had missed his Super Bowl or bust window.

All the moves make sense once you view them through the lens of that awful decision.

For some reason I believe he thinks he could break the mold like Lebron did in the NBA. He being pushed by his agent, Hopkins ( who is acting like a bitter ex), Andre Johnson and the many voices from the media. If this tactic is successful, many others will follow.

I hear you, but if you did not see or remember his press conference after signing, he was crying about the faith the McNairs put in him was more important then the money. He praised them deeply and was honored to be their franchise QB. If that was true, then I expect him to rise above some of this stuff. Sure the Texans are not blameless, but if that meant what it seemed to, the rest is just petty. Is Easterby an ass, yeah. Does he send texts to mothers, probably. Does he meddle, probably less on the GM side now. Did we hire the best coach, no. But dude, you said this was an honor, be part of the solution and work with the owner, GM and coach.

In other words he said thanks for paying me.

But when times got tough he cut and ran.

Can't really say I'm surprised by looking at the people he surrounds himself with. Good riddance, he got paid and now DeShaun loves himself some DeShaun.

This franchise has been a sinking ship well before September 2020.

So, why did he sign the contract?

It's like marrying a stripper and then wondering why she does what she does after you married her. I know a rich dude through business that did this and, as expected, it ended badly. I never felt sorry for him, though.

Watson could have believed in himself like Kirk Cousins did with the Washington team. Dude played out his contract and made them franchise him twice. Then he left and got paid again.

I don't have much sympathy for a professional player getting $111 million guaranteed by an organization that has been dysfunctional for years.

At some point, a man has got to live with his choices in life.

Fair enough.

The inherit problem is the assumption that it's the Texans that changed in four months.

Maybe it was Deshaun that changed. Perhaps his barracuda agent and Instagram girlfriend have pumped his head full of delusions of greatness. There are media rumors that he wants to be the Lebron James of the NFL.

His words at signing, as mentioned above, undermine his current narrative.

I agree about not knowing the full story. That's why I tend to believe that blame goes both ways. The media is just making things up now, IMO.

As far as entitled. . .'eh, if a company wants more business from customers, they have to own their mistakes, at least in the real world. Of course, the NFL is a monopoly and unaccountable, so it plays outside of those rules.

But you're right. We are not entitled to know a dern thing, and by the same token, the Houston Texans are not entitled to any of our money.

And we should remember this lesson about entitlement in the next decade when the McNairs come around asking for public funds to improve their 20+ year old playground. That part is just a matter of time based on pro sports history.

Man I’m not worried about all that. He’s a special talent who is all of sudden full of himself . He’s going about it the wrong way. I have lost all respect for him and Harden.
I hate that it came to this but I'm not really surprised.

He was just waiting to get paid.

This is why personnel people need to take in the entire picture and know when to move on before this stuff happens. Sometimes it's not just about the talent. Speaking of talent if he gets traded to the Jets how long do you think it takes for him to 1. make the playoffs 2. Become unhappy

Deshaun got paid and I think it's fair to say he's changed quite a bit since he put his signature on that contract. What I hope is Cuck learned to not mix mgmt with labor.

Yep, I hope everybody can come to grips with who the McNair's are when the last paragraph of your post comes to fruition. This comes with me knowing that DW4 has only been out for DW4 since the ink hit the paper on his new contract. That contract empowered him and his agent. Hopefully other owners take notice and 1. pick and choose who they pay much more carefully. 2. Make David Mulugheta's life a lot more difficult.

In other words he said thanks for paying me.

But when times got tough he cut and ran.

Can't really say I'm surprised by looking at the people he surrounds himself with. Good riddance, he got paid and now DeShaun loves himself some DeShaun.
Sigh. You can criticize the guy without going there. You always take it a step too far and invalidates whatever point you are making. I guess all of the work he does in the community or giving back doesn't count for much in your view from the peanut gallery.

That DW4! What a low character, POS to accept a faith in action award.

Just like JE, I dont care about all of that stuff. I care about how the team performs on the field and last yr wasn't good.

I agree with that. You are the one who mentioned character and who he hangs around with. What does that have to do with the performance on the field? It just seems like a gratuitous attempt to attack the guy's character to sway posters. It also, smells like the Texans' worthy BS, you have bashed for over a decade.

My point is the way Watson has handle this situation deserves criticism and that's fair game. However, if you going to push this narrative about his character, you should take into account what he does in the community and that tells more about his character.

You are who you hang with.

Just know that DW4's really changed over the last 2 yrs and not in a good way.

We weren't aware then, but you gott'a feel like it began when they stupidly traded away his close friend and only other Texan that that could be ranked in the top 2 at their position …. and they were intertwined so tightly …. they each depended on the other to aid in their rise to the top of the league. Perfect storm …. only in Houston !

Except Watson had his best season without Hopkins. If OB's plan was to trade Hopkins to force Watson to spread the pass around and not let defenses know just who he would throw to 9 out of 10 times, well, hate to say it but it worked.
