NFL COVID-19 PROTOCOL

A Packers player has tested positive............AJ Dillon............and he played yesterday. There is a problem that the NFL will probably find some way to ''circumvent'' or ignore...............the Packers have a Thursday game.............and they have already had their bye week.

NFL sees an increase in Tier 3 positives

The NFL’s various franchises have divided access and, in turn, testing based on a series of tiers. As the virus continues to spread and as the nationwide numbers continue to increase, the NFL is also seeing an increase among Tier 3 personnel.

Tested once per week, Tier 3 individuals consist of certain types of operational personnel (e.g., cleaning service providers), food preparation/kitchen personnel (who will prepare meals but have no contact with Tier 1 or Tier 2 Individuals), additional in-house media and broadcast personnel (e.g., camera operators, audio technicians), field maintenance providers, transportation providers, and additional stadium or security personnel not assigned to restricted areas.

According to the league, the recent increases for Tier 3 personnel are consistent with the general increases in infections throughout society. This only underscores the importance of Tier 1 and Tier 2 personnel (primarily players and coaches) avoiding situations that could result in infections when away from work. Absent a home-market bubble, all players and coaches will continue to go their separate ways after every day or work, potentially getting themselves exposed to the virus under a wide variety of factual circumstances.

As the total cases continue to increase (and they are), the opportunities to catch the virus likewise will increase. Although the league’s protocols are premised on preventing inevitable positive cases from becoming outbreaks, an increase in positives means an increase in chances for an outbreak.
Thus, while the NFL will have made it through eight full weeks after tonight’s Bucs-Giants contest with all games played (even if it took some surgery to the schedule to make it happen), challenges loom. They loom because the virus continues to spread.

This means that everyone associated with each NFL team must do whatever they can to steer clear of the virus, until the season ends.
 
Andy Dalton was still in the Concussion Protocol as of today. But concussion is not the only thing that keep him out of the Cowboys next game. He has been placed on the COVID-19 list..............no word yet as to if he tested positive or if he is a contact victim...............but his COVID-19 status assures him not being the starter.

When Dalton was knocked out of the last game, Ben DiNucci didn't exactly impress Jerruh. It appears that there is serious consideration of elevating Cooper Rush from the Cowboys PS to starter position.:toropalm:
 
Now, Jerruh is introducing another name to compete with Cooper Rush for starting QB...............Garret Gilbert. You might remember Gilbert as the starting quarterback of the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football. This is turning into the battle of the "Titans."
 
49ers WR Kendrick Bourne has tested positive. His sample was collected Tuesday morning.........with him obviously shedding the COVID virus in the locker room, on the practice field, and and other 49ers player and staff areas.

The 49ers are scheduled to play the Packers Thursday. Contact tracing is supposedly going on. The NFL is scrambling to figure out a creative way to get around the scheduling. It should be obvious to all by now that the NFL testing and positive procedural Protocols are a joke..........something for the NFL to simply hide, ignore, circumvent and manipulate for the sole purpose of keeping the show going.
 
The 49ers officially have placed Trent Williams and WR Brandon Aiyuk on the COVID-19/reserve list as high-risk close contacts with Kendrick Bourne.
 
The Chiefs announced that a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The team will practice as scheduled, but they will then close the facility and hold meetings remotely for the rest of the day...............................now that makes a lot of sense. :sarcasm:
 
Bears OC Cody Whitehair has tested positive. The team will be working remotely on Thursday while doing contact tracing to see if anyone else needs to isolate after being in close contact with Whitehair.
 
The Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, as reported by Adam Schefter, has been fined $100,000 for failure to wear a mask last Sunday's game at Baltimore. The Steelers have been fined $250,000. These are similar fines delved out to 5 other teams previously.

Report: NFL imposes heavy fine, strips sixth-round pick from Raiders over COVID-19 issues

The NFL has done plenty of huffing and puffing when it comes to COVID-19 compliance. It has commenced the process of blowing down a house.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports that the NFL has fined the Raiders $500,000, fined coach Jon Gruden $150,000, and removed a sixth-round pick for protocol violations arising from tackle Trent Brown‘s positive test last month.

The league previously had fined Gruden $100,000 and the team $250,000 for Gruden’s failure to wear a mask. The Raiders also were fined $50,000 for having an unauthorized person in the locker room, and multiple players were fined for attending an indoor event without masks away from work.

Punishment will further increase in the event of additional violations from the Raiders, whom Gruden recently proclaimed to be on the “cutting edge” of beating the virus.

At this time, 15 teams have COVID-19 issues.................Dolphins, Ravens, Texans, Colts, Broncos, Chiefs, Cowboys, Packers, Bears, 49ers, Cardinals, Eagles, Raiders, Lions, and Falcons.

As long as team players/personnel are leaving their protected team facilities, and allowed to choose whatever destinations and activities they wish to pursue when they are absent from the facilities, this will independently dictate their susceptibility and their fellow players' and team personnel's susceptibility to the virus.

At this point though, the NFL will keep plowing forward. Putting JV squads on the field like the 49ers did last night (I know they have lots of injured players) will water down the product more than it is. Just curious when Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Wilson, one of the "big faces" of the NFL gets it and can't play....if the NFL will adjust schedules and postpone games now. It's getting late in the season for all that.

I've essentially been saying this all along. Every week, the NFL is presenting a poorer product. Yes, COVID-19 is definitely a major factor.................but note all the myriad of League-wide injuries.............a definite function of no offseason, a lame preseason, and for sure even less rigorous ''player-protective'' practices than in previous years (if you can believe it could become any less).

Despite the reliable information I received, the Raiders would not report that Brown was ever symptomatic. Now significant concerns have come to light regarding long-term consequences.

A month's absence would not have been a direct result of his IV air embolism. His air embolism resolved quickly and would be at this point of no consequence. His prolonged absence is due to cardiopulmonary complications secondary to COVID-19.

I am sure we all hope that his issues do not progress and do not affect his career.

These "close contact" players are released to return if they test negative for 3 days. This makes little sense, since tests may not be able to detect COVID-19 that early.

While early research on asymptomatic transmission has shown that some asymptomatic individuals will test positive two to three days before developing symptoms, we would definitely not expect a positive diagnostic test for COVID-19 one day after exposure.

The diagnostic test, known as a “PCR test,” works by detecting genetic material from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in the nose and upper throat. A study that examined false-negative rates post-exposure, found that during the four days of infection prior to symptom onset, the probability of a false negative on the PCR test went from 100 percent on Day 1 to 67 percent on Day 4. And even on the day individuals began showing symptoms, the false negative rate was still 38 percent, dropping to 20 percent three days after symptom onset. Of course, much depends on the sensitivityof the particular test being used.

On average, symptoms of the virus develop five to six days post exposure, but the incubation period can be as long as 14 days. And, of course some people never develop noticeable or debilitating symptoms — hence the recommendation to self-quarantine and self-monitor for a full two weeks after any likely exposure.
 
Steelers TE Vance McDonald tested positive for COVID. The test was reported to the team this morning. He played in yesterday's game against the Cowboys.
 
The Steeleers have placed 4 players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list this morning. This includes Ben Roethlisberger, olineman Jerald Hawkins, RB Jaylen Samuels, and LB Vince Williams. They follow the team placing TE Vance McDonald testing positive yesterday.
 
Broncos defensive tackle Shelby Harris was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list last week after exposure to someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Harris hoped to be cleared in time to play in Week 9, but that did not happen and it appears he’ll be out against the Raiders in Week 10 as well. Harris has tested positive for COVID-19, so his stay on the list will be extended.

Harris told Mike Klis of KUSA that he has been staying in a hotel because his wife and kids have tested positive, but will be “going home” on Wednesday now that he has also had a positive result. Harris also said that he is not experiencing any symptoms.

Mike Tomlin: Steelers followed NFL policy in letting Vance McDonald play

On Friday, Steelers tight end Vance McDonald missed practice with an illness. On Saturday, McDonald took the team flight to Dallas. On Sunday, McDonald played against the Cowboys. On Monday, a COVID-19 test McDonald took on Sunday came back positive.

Now questions are being raised about why the Steelers didn’t immediately isolate McDonald from the rest of the team when he started feeling ill. But coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers were following NFL policy.

“You know, those aren’t decisions that are made by us,” Tomlin said. “It’s really cut and dry. It’s all in the procedural policy of COVID established in New York by the NFL. As long as he is negative and not showing signs of COVID, he’s able to travel, and [McDonald] was and we did.”
 
There were more players testing COVID positive today. There are so many players testing positive, it is too difficult to stay up with listing them.
 
Two Bucs PS WRs have been placed on the COVID list. No info re. if they tested positive or not. The contact tracing will determine if any of the players on the active roster will play this Sunday or not.
 
Steelers Kevin Dotson 1st rd Olineman has been placed on the COVID list. No official word if he was a victim of positive test or close contact..............However, I remember that yesterday he was on the Injury Report with an "illness," and did not practice. "Illness" plus COVID list the next day pretty much tells me that he is a test positive.
 
Browns announce a player has tested positive for COVID-19

Another Browns player has tested positive for COVID-19.

The team shut their facility last Friday morning after offensive lineman Chris Hubbard tested positive and the team announced on Monday that another player tested positive. It is unknown if the player took part in Sunday’s win over the Texans or not.

The Browns facility is closed as contact tracing goes on and any player found to be a high-risk close contact of the infected player will have to stay away from the team until five days past the last contact.

No players fell into that category after Hubbard’s positive test and the team was able to practice last Friday afternoon. Hubbard is the only player currently on their COVID reserve list.
 
Browns FB Andy Janovich is the player that has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He played on the offense (15 snaps) and STs (11 snaps) yesterday.
 
An unnamed Giants player was told that he tested positive last night. It’s not known if the player played in Sunday’s win over the Eagles. Several staff have been reported as close contacts.

Myles Garrett has been placed on the COVID-19 reserve list after missing practice all week with an illness. The Browns have not reported whether he tested positive or whether he was placed on the list for close contact. However, with the chronology of events, I doubt that he is only a "victim" of close contact. From what I'm hearing, Garrett is quite sick.
 
Of course, these positive tests were discovered AFTER the Ravens/Titans game. This protocol and timing of reporting is not working. I have become more and more cynical regarding the timing of when these positive results are being released. I am more than suspecting now that some of these "after the fact" (games having already been played) positive results are reported delayed to a time when it would not throw chaos upon the NFL schedule.

Bills TE Tommy Sweeney, who was previously on the COVID-19 list, will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle known to be a complication of COVID-19 infections. It not uncommonly leaves a patient with permanent debility. My prayers go out to Sweeney.
 
Report: Ravens learned of more positive COVID-19 tests Tuesday

There are reportedly more positive COVID-19 tests in the Ravens organization.

Shortly after the Ravens announced that they will be working virtually for the second straight day, Jeff Zrebiec of TheAthletic.com reported that the team learned of more positive tests on Tuesday. It is not known if those positive tests were for players, coaches, or other team personnel.

Running backs J.K. Dobbins and Mark Ingram will not play against the Steelers on Thursday night after testing positive. Defensive tackle Brandon Williams is also out as a close contact.

Any players who tested positive in this round would also have to miss the game and the Ravens would have to do another round of contact tracing to see if any other players are impacted.
 
Seven Ravens players have tested positive in the past 3 days.

League, Ravens expect to know whether outbreak is contained by Friday

Thursday’s game between the Ravens and Steelers has been moved to Sunday. The next question is whether it moves from Sunday.

It can’t move to Monday or Tuesday, unless the league also moves next Thursday night’s game between the Cowboys and Ravens.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Ravens outbreak could get worse. The league and the team know how the outbreak began, and the league and the team believe that, by Friday, it will be known whether the outbreak is contained.

The fact that they won’t know until Friday made it impossible to play the game on Thursday.
If it isn’t played on Sunday, the game likely will become the first game played in an eighteenth week of the 2020 regular season.
 
Colts DE Deforest Buckner has just been placed on the COVID-19 list...........a major loss for the Colts upcoming game against Derrick Henry.
 
Looks like the Ravens believe they have identified the "Typhoid Mary" of the COVID-19............a strength and conditioning coach who did not report his symptoms and did not consistently wear a mask or tracking device.
