4th Round (126th overall) Charlie Heck, OT, North Carolina

Best remaining OT. Those guys were flying off the board so you have to take him here if you’re going to get him.

I don’t think he ever starts. He struggles with leverage like most guys his height would. Good athlete, good length. Good pass blocker and decent in run game. Good backup player.
Roderick Johnson has had just that problem. He and Heck need to work hard on keeping their pad levels low to be effective.............something difficult for a "giraffe."

If he was any good don’t you think the Chiefs would have nabbed him? He won’t play a single down this year, if ever. He is a zero on ST, and we have Rod Johnson that is a better player at this point. And we had bigger needs. But the capper to this stupidity was trading up to get him. It’s pathetic.

The Chiefs already has established OTs. They got their OT at pick #96, 30 places earlier.........and he is considered a project.

I'm thinking the Texans got him before the Chiefs could, hence the trade up.

Nice to see you have formed an opinion on Heck, even though I'm going to guess you've never seen him play a down of football.

I will help you out, he's very raw but talented. It may take a yr to get him up to speed, but right now he's better than Clark.

Pancakes is and always has been a joke. He makes educated guesses (same as most of us) and passes it off as editorial material. He's just a fan with a platform. Nothing more.
Yes, but in this case it wasn't McClain

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
Some guy named Mark Lane I think
Sorry. I didnt piece together you guys were talking bout someone other then mclain. I didn't see it upthread either.

You described him perfectly and he's still a pos.

I don't have any comments on the player as I've never seen him play, but I think this may prove to be the wisest pick of the draft, though not necessarily the best. It seems every year we lose a tackle to injury and end up picking through the garbage heap to fill the void. This causes a cascading effect on the whole team. The offense becomes less dynamic as we're forced to rely on TE to block more, which takes stress off opposing secondaries. More stalled drives puts additional pressure on the defense. Investing a mid-round pick into the swing tackle position should pay dividends in the future. Now let's just hope Devlin can actually develop Heck.

He may need to add strength, but he is not raw. 3 year college starter, and has football in his blood. His dad is a former NFL player and current NFL OL coach. He is anything but raw.
He also held up well against the Clemson/VaTech/N.C. St. type defenses and has experience playing both RT/LT.

However I hope he doesn't have to play this yr and can gain much needed strength with a NFL S&C program. If he can do this he can be special. He's got the feet for it. Former soccer player.

Heck is a slightly advanced OT version of Coulter at WR. Talent is there but there's alot of work to be done. If Heck can do the work then this will be a steal of a pick.

Agree with all of the above except for the bolded statement. Both need work, but Heck is far more NFL ready than Coulter.

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
Oh boy. Already talking about moving Howard to guard. Why not just draft a freaking guard? SMDH

Well its because OBrien and Easterby didnt meet personally with any Guards/Centers and figure out if they can recite the Our Father. Trend this year was drafting the guys they 'spoke with' instead of actually identifying the talent available. They passed on All American/Conference type interior OL in order to draft this 6'8 NBA PF to get tossed around by the pit bulls on NFL defensive lines. Blown pick.

If they move Howard to G after showing how well he played at T then its just more negligence.

Hey SteelB how woul you compare this guy coming out of college and going into the NFL with another 4th round pick
we had recently at this same position, Julian Davenport ?
One thing of course that's apparent is that Heck clearly has gone against better competetion in college than JD which suggests a more rapid develpoment schedule at the NFL Level ?

This is a pretty good comparison

Except Heck has better feet and is better at picking up stunts/twists etc... He's also played against top competition and seems to have the desire to improve. Davenports problem was although he was a big dude, he didn't have the feet to play LT or the strength to play RT. He was a tweener of crap.

Although drafted in a similar range Heck is the superior prospect. Better feet, more actionable experience.

This! His tape isn’t impressive at all. He plays WAY to high. Doesn’t get much push because of that in run game. Guys disengage from him easily when he’s run blocking. Typical downfalls for O linemen that tall. He has some good traits but not sure he’s going to be able to overcome his height even with his good athleticism for his height. No way he plays guard.

Now that I’ve watched the entirety of the the #Texans 2020 NFL Draft class in depth, here are my grades:

Ross Blacklock: B+
Jonathan Greenard: A+
Charlie Heck: F
John Reid: B
Isaiah Coulter: B

Overall it could’ve been worse. Thankfully there were no TEs, QBs or special teamers.

Missed one game with the broken bone and decided to play all year instead of letting it heal

Mack brown said on 610 that Heck played all year with a broken finger so that may be what limited his power and hand strength while blocking
