Is Deshaun Watson Russell Wilson 2.0?

Russell Wilson's got a super bowl ring.

If Deshaun Watson wins one of those, he'll have done what he was brought here to do.

But there's no reason for this comparison, they are peers. I want him to be better than Russell Wilson, not the next one.

I see the similiar play on the field, but i think there is a big difference in the way the locker room feels of each guy. DW4 has the it factor to lead in a positive way and treats everyone the right way meaning he gets everything out o the team. I hear rumors Russell is not near as popular, but is respected for his play. I think DW4 is sustainable and a positive to get more out of the existing talent. Would not trade straight up, keeping my chips on DW4

Well.. as far as longevity.. I'll take it.
Game wise.. I believe WatSon has a better "it factor" upside and that's saying something as Wilson has had many a bad ass moment.

All that being said... I hope Watson doesn't let some chick dictate his life up to and including when he's allowed to have the sex. (Yes.. I realize how that sounds but you get me)
I mean.. forfuxsakes.... pun.

Side Q: Is Watson straight? Unbothered either way but at least he wouldn't have to put up with crazy women if he were.
Of course, that could be why he's revered as a great locker room guy. I mean.. if he were gay.. I get why he's so friendly.

Ok Ok Ok ... the previous was mostly a joke. Don't ban me.

i've only been here a week, but reading things like this makes me wish there was a not like button

devil's advocate: why couldn't he have a crazy gay boyfriend?

jm2c, but maybe leave the stereotyping at home chief -- not a great look out in public

Forget that, you want to see some real fireworks start a "Thank You Rick Smith" thread or a "Firing Kubiak was Best Decision the Texans Ever Made" thread. Trust me there ain't enough popcorn in the world.

He's a lot like him. But Watson doesn't quite have the arm strength or the ability to stay healthy.

He's playing like a young Steve Young. Hopefully he becomes HOF'er Steve Young.

If he continues to improve reading defenses/internal clock improves and the talent around him improves Watson has HOF ability.
The problem is he is being coached like he is an old George Blanda.

"Just drop straight back and let the defense zero in on that one spot."

"Gee coach, how about a moving pocket or a rollout every now and then? Where I could use my mobility to avoid getting hit, instead of getting crushed every time the pocket collapses?"

"No Geor... err... Deshaun! You might trip over your AARP card!"

Bottom line fore is Watson is still healthy

I don't really care what the record is this year.

Porn and gay sex...I usually (always) filter that out of my search especially WHEN I’M SEARCHING INFORMATION REGARDING MY FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM!

Anyway, I’m a big Wilson fan, he has 1 SB win, should have two... if only if it weren’t for those pesky HC egos. Guess they all have ‘em.

I would much prefer Staubach 2.0
Staubach was accurate because he gunned the ball. Late in his career O linemen learned to rush him with their hands in the air. They started knocking down a lot of his passes.

Welcome sir, ma'am or pan but to answer your question.. I don't know.. maybe he could but please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.. DON'T 'NOT LIKE' ME.!.!.
THAT WOULD BREAK MY ******* HEART! smh

Side note: You know how stereotypes become stereotypes?

Anyway...

Merry XMas or whatever you bow to as long as you won't be triggered (again) by my assertion heretofore.

Wilson has one of, if not the best deep passers in the game.
It is usually deadly accurate and he can throw it on the run.
If the Seahawks can get a 1st rate burner on the outside, they will always threaten deep.

As long as Watson is not a Schaub Version 2. I would have to hit the "Not Like Button".
Best QB we've had to date. If Watson can be Schaub + I'd be ok with that

I really didn't want to say, but this "he wants to make plays from the pocket" talk reminds me of Aaron Brooks. A QB I was happy to see go to Nawlins & get a shot. The dude was very talented. Not Michael Vick talented. Not Donovan McNabb talented. But a really nice blend. He could make plays from the pocket. He could extend plays. He could make plays with his legs. But he limited himself trying to be a certain type of QB.

Now I don't get the feeling Watson is "trying" to be whatever, so I'm not too worried. But every week that's what I'm hearing from the announcers.

Or maybe B rooks wasn't smart enough to learn how to read defenses.

Watson appears to be a hardworker who spends a lot of time watching film. Something that was never said about Brooks.

Chris Collinsworth made a great couple of points during the Hall of Fame Game.
His first was that the QB can do more than his oline for his own protection. This rings very true as we all know Watson holds on to the ball too long waiting for a play to develop.
The second point he made was that doing so encourages rushers in their efforts to get after the QB.
This makes sense as the rusher knows there is a good chance he will get to the passer before he gets rid of the ball.
Now if the rusher knows the passer gets rid of the ball very quickly he will be in two minds of where he should be to effect his best play. And if the DC knows it too, he will be more reluctant to call blitzes or at least ones with large amounts of personnel involved else he leave his backfield exposed.
Watson is a smart guy - it will be very interesting to see how he plays this year.

I don't really think they play that similar, I see more Aaron Rodgers with less arm strength but more athleticism

The way he plays rather than physical traits. Specifically how they both move outside the pocket while keeping their eyes downfield and being adept at the deep ball even on the run.
I believe Watson will mature into a top 5 QB. Another couple of seasons under his belt will do him wonders.
He has already shown plenty of flashes - now he just needs to work on those areas that are getting him into trouble.

Id agree with this... PROVIDED they can protect him.

IF they dont protect him, I feel that he will pick up too many bad habits to ever live up to that potential.

I remember in 2017. A lot of fans were mad about trading our picka to get him. They said “he isn’t accurate enough and he has a weak arm”. Fast forward to this day and he’s one of the most accurate deep ball throwers. They call him the Mj of football for a reason. I’m glad baker and kyler are getting all the hyped. Takes pressure off our qb and makes him more hungry.

Since this season is expected to be absolute sh1t for us, I would love to see Watson work on his short and intermediate passing game for the majority of the season. Work on first downing opponents to death. I know it sounds crazy/stupid, but he should use a season to work on being a more well rounded QB. We know he’s damn near magical outside the pocket, but with our offensive line being such a mess, the last thing I’d want is for him to go down with another season ending injury. Especially with those long developing routes his delusional HC calls, as if he had this All-World O-line.

People do realize that part of the reason he holds on to the ball so long is that there always has to be max protect and there’s only 2 receivers in the pattern, right? Or the patterns themselves are pathetic. That’s not all on Watson.

That''s a catch-22...as a rookie Watson was getting rid of the ball very quickly and made a worse OL look better than it was without the max protect but last year it switched around. Terrible OL (not as bad as 2017) and max protect led to 62 sacks, Watson had part of that as did OB

When you give up as many sacks as we did last year everyone involved shares the blame. Offensive line, Deshaun Watson, position coaches, head coach, and front office. They all had a part in the abysmal sack numbers last season.

Right, right. Not saying Watson doesn't share some of the blame, but let's not act like whatever percentage of the 62 sacks were because he holds the ball too long, and dismiss why he's holding onto the ball for so long.
