Somehow I was always hoping for more from Honey Badger last season. There were a few flashes here and there, but overall he didn't live up to the "look at me" hype. It doesn't matter to me whether they we're paying him a lot or a little. He's gone and the Texans have new guys to play back there. It may not be full blown addition by subtraction, but it's close. I find a bit of hope in that and look forward to how the defensive backfield will play this year. They'll still need to put some draft equity into those positions next year, but I like Gaine's efforts.

Honey badger played his way to a pay day on a one year deal. Yet people down on him. Texans this signed more guys to one year deals. Weird...

IMO, one year deals are becoming more prevalent, especially for players who don't have much leverage. When sure thing multi-year acquisitions aren't available, one year deals make sense with both sides hoping to catch lightening in a bottle.

I don't think it's smart to overpay players on multi year deals. I hope the Texans have come to this conclusion as well. Many teams out there spending top dollar in FA. A few will have an actual shot. All will go through cap hell.

Overpaying for one year... seems like a way to improve your team add veteran talent, but not lock your team in to a bad deal.

Yes, we'll probably be scrambling to fix the secondary again next year. I don't know. Maybe the young guys will be ready to step in. Maybe Roby will play well & sign an extension.

We'll see.

People keep confusing discipline with lack of desire and/or cheap. I applaud a GM who decides on a value and sticks to their guns.
They always stick to their guns which is why they will always be a bridesmaid but never a bride. BTW, what has sticking to their guns gotten them other than losing alot of talented players?

No confusion, still lots of holes and the 2nd most cap space in the NFL type of sticking to their guns?

I’m sure you were over the moon paying going rate for Schaub and Cushing post injuries.... How many people do the Pats let walk when the cost to keep them does not match the value the team puts on the player? Pats have their core players and will keep them until it no longer makes sense financially. Texans are attempting to do the same and year 1 with Gaine in control looks to be on the right track.

Couldn't stand the Schaub/Cushing signings after talking with CnD.

There's 2 problems with the Texans org right now. They aren't the Pats even though they operate with the arrogance of the Pats, but have absolutely no skins on the wall to be acting with such arrogance. (Going Cheap ass for example)

2. The Colts are better than the Texans and they added to their team an elite pass rusher and vet WR2 their offense was badly missing. In addition to Ballard being a witch and is not being held back from acquiring the best players due to some self induced moral code.

The Texans never caught up to the Colts with Manning and probably wont catch up to the Colts with Luck as long as these 2 things remain the same as they have for 17 yrs and 3 regimes. all fans can really hope for is for Luck to get hurt like Manning did and have Watson remain healthy.
