Most agree the only time it makes sense to overspend in FA, even on elite players, is when you are looking for that missing piece to take you to the next level.

With that understanding I have no problem with the Texans approach to FA. We see exactly how they view the organization they built, & I concur.

I have absolutely no evidence to back this up so it’s pure speculation, but I would suspect a couple mid round picks. I don’t foresee him fetching a 2nd, but I would say something around a 3rd and a 4th or 5th, which I would do all day and twice on Sunday. They’re rebuilding, and won’t have much use for him in a couple years anyways

We see this the same … the question is if the team does too or are we giving them too much credit ?!

Often when they have spent in FA …. things don't turn out so well. They could be scared of screwing up again.

As long as Bill O Brien has little to no say in how this team is constructed I’m fine. The way I see it, with our schedule and team as it stands today, he’s merely a place holder until the next guy (please let it be Dabo) takes over

This is the player that the Pats tried to trade for Deandre Hopkins after Hopkins' 2016 down year. Criticism from last year was that he missed too many tackles and his play resulted in too many big negative plays. At best a 1-year prove it deal,,,,,,,,,,,,if the team even feels it's a position of need.
 
Kind of wondering where Suh will land if anywhere. He's getting long in the tooth but I would think some team would want him if just to be a vet mentor for somebody. Only thing I can think of is he wants another big payday. I could see the Colts taking him if for no other reason than they have more spare change than even we do and they need one. Could even be argued its their biggest need.

DD: Probably not, Jorge, but there's always a chance. He's certainly someone who could upgrade the interior pass rush, and if he was signed now he wouldn't count against the compensatory pick formula. I think the price tag might be a little high.

To be fair Colts have the most cap space and they need the position even more than us and they aren’t jumping on him, at the time of this post, either.

Colts need isn't anywhere near as bad as ours. They need depth, not necessarily impact players.

Colts got 14 Sacks and 17 QB Hits from their interior combo of Autry and Hunt.

Texans lost Covington in FA so their returning interior guys (Reader, Blackson, Dunn, Watkins) combined for 4 Sacks and 6 QB Hits. We have a dire need for impact players on the interior.
 
Money is not the main problem with Suh. The biggest problem is that Suh is about Suh and for Suh...........he has never understood team. Besides that, he has specifically developed a bad reputation with this organization because of some past "interchanges" with our players.

He must've understood team last yr since the team he was on made the SB and he was a big part of that defense.

Agreed. Texans need to unass $64M on a one year deal to add Suh's 2018 4.5 sacks & 19 QB hits.

Last time we saw Suh, he was playing a dominant game in the SB. But now because the Texans aren't going to sign him, he will be stealing $$$$ and is ready for the old folks home.

Do I have your position correct?

Yep, but Ed reed's last game he played in before joining the Texans wasn't the SB. I believe Reed was coming off of labrum surgery before signing with the Texans.

Just to be clear, you believe Suh earned $14.5M with the Rams? Or are you saying since the Rams went to the Super Bowl they got their money's worth?

& since they don't want Suh now, they are not interested in returning to the Super Bowl?

Rams have made some questionable personnel decisions that have been overshadowed by the success largely brought by adding Mcvay and Wade Phillips as coaches. Trading a 2nd round pick to rent Sammy Watkins for a year to use as a decoy comes to mind. Giving Suh 14.5M is another.

I'm saying he was an integral part of a defense that held the Pats to 13 pts in the SB.

Being cut for cap reasons doesn't mean the guy cant play.

I don't disagree.

He wasn't cut. He was only signed to a one year deal. Like Mathieu it was an opportunity for the Rams to fill a need & Suh to improve his market value. Based on his play, what do you believe his market value should be? What kind of deal would you offer him, considering his current age & his "character"?

Personally, I think $10M/yr is his high end. I'd be concerned with guaranteeing any part of any deal I would offer him. I know we would have to guarantee something. How would you structure a deal where he would have to "prove it" & play like every year is a contract year?

I just don’t see any value in signing him for one year unless it is believed we are in our window for the SB. It’s not like they want to bring him in to mentor our other DT’s. Showing up when he wants to isn’t a professional example. But he can play. He’s Kraken material only.

I understand not overpaying him for even one year unless we were making a SB push. But if we can get him for $6M... he might be the difference in winning the division.

I'd rather win the division than not.

& if you're saying we should win the division without Suh, then why can't we win the SB with him?

Don’t disagree. Those thinking we are in that window will consider him. My gut feel is we are a year or two away but I wouldn’t put anything past Watson.

1 yr and 13/14 mil like he got last yr, with whatever guarantees the Rams gave him. The $$$$ really doesn't matter since they have a ton of cap room.
