Report the Texans are open to trading Clowney

powda

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
If traded I don't expect to hear of it until time for other team to select.
So an early heavy run on de's might just be what makes this happen. Does JDC yield a top 15 pick?

My guess is the Texans have given Clowney permission to seek a trade- to talk contract with other teams, hoping discussions with other teams will reset his contract demands when he discovers people don't want to trade much for him due to injury concerns... and/or they don't want to trade for him once he expresses his contract demands.

I am not opposed to trading Clowney... If we can get some decent value, I would be happy with it. I would consider trading him for a 2nd and a conditional 2020 pick... but I am skeptical the Texans are seriously shopping him.

Clark trade was:

1st (29th)
2020 2nd round
Swap of 3rd round picks

The timing here is bad unless they have been having trade talks already makes Texans look desperate.

It amazes me that the comments from the original PFT article are so negative regarding Clowney. Most responders think he is only mediocre and not worthy of a first round pick. I consider Clowney one of the top 5 edge rushers in the NFL, and he's getting better. On top of that he is great against the run. I would want nothing less that a 1st rounder.

He is nowhere close to a top 10 edge rusher.

Top 5? I wouldn't even put him in the top 10. I'm not even sure he's in the top 15. He was drafted to be a beast pass rusher, but he's an average to good pass rusher. Not a great one. Mack is ten times better. I agree he's a beast against the run, but this is a passing league in 2019. Being great against the run has it's value, but he's not worth the huge money he's probably seeking imho - and he's got an injury history and goes brain dead at least once per game.

I'd trade him in a heartbeat if the price was right. But considering he isn't even under contract, I consider this an extreme longshot as far as around the draft time frame.

I don't know about that. He's a top pass rusher that you can expect to set the edge. Are there edge rushers as good against the run as he is?
As an "edge rusher," his specific proficiency primarily should be to rush the Qb and secondarily to set the edge. Clowney's main functionality between those 2 has been to set the edge, and as badboy questioned, would he be as effective in that without Watt.

With all talent still left I would consider trading for a high 2 and 3 and 5. Use one of lower picks to move up in 2nd and get a db and the high 2 a wr

Oh wait the Clown thinks he is best defensive player in nfl and wants more than Mack or he has his feelings hurt and is getting back at Texans??

I hope Gaine is on the phones right now because he's got until 6 this evening before the second round of the Draft begins.

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
Its funny to the read the comments where guys are arguing semantics regarding JDC being 'edge rusher' or 'OLB' LOL I mean does it really matter? What that argument zeroes in on is the SACK numbers and again it would be a foolhardy and lazy evaluation. Nobody here who seems to oppose a JD long term signing ever brings up what he does in the run game, or his TFL's or the chaos he creates, its only about sacks. And yet the Texans have very much made it clear that JDC is an OLB (just because their cheap asses dont want to pay the additional salary it would take to franchise JD as a DE) I guess that is solved yea?

Looks like the office waited maybe a half a month too late to make a public "we want to trade" announcement on Clowney. Couple of extra 2nds would be great no matter how you get there but likelihood is negligible. But Gaine's got a couple hours left.

It sounds like they are no where close to a deal or they feel he is asking for too much for them to put this out there now.

They publicly made Clowney available to trade by using the non-exclusive tag.

With our brain trust they don't see things until it is TOO LATE.
Last year
OL bad
WR weak and still depending on Fuller
Secondary weak
RB below average
This year
OL bad. Bad luck that Watson injured. Bull **** with our OL it will be a miracle if he isn't
WR weak and still counting on Fuller and Coutee Bad luck they got hurt again. Bullshit what did you expect.
RB is an issue again. Brain trust says "Don't know what happened" Miller hurt and lost a step. Bullshit
Not trading Clowney this year ( Comes into camp out of shape and it takes 4 games to get game ready and then he has many minor no major injuries that affect his play this year ) Less value in trade next year plus after this season do they even dare franchise again. Bad luck says the Brains. Bullshit

Texans end up in lower quarter and we are told bad luck and injuries. BULLSHIT.

So you're already saying bullshit to an imaginary season?

I am saying BULLSHIT to the brain trust after these thing happen and they give those responses and act like it is bad luck.
So ..... possibly I am saying bullshit to next season, BOB, Gaines.. because I don't consider what I laid out to be imaginary.

You make your luck and that is exactly what the Texans do is make their luck, only it is bad.

Obviously still very pissed that Clowney not traded (for that matter ever drafted) for even a second and a third. Sure not value maybe but now you have Dillard, another 2nd round draft pick, and you don't still have the problem of what to do with Clowney next year.
